Hi, I'm interested in learning how to be a better rigger. Do any of you guys know any good books or information for rigging in maya? I am already familiar with the fk/ik character rig, I'm looking into more advance stuff such as this reel. Is it mostly scripting if you want to make your own custom pose windows?

@bLitz72 If you can't afford all three then just get the first book as that covers the majority of what you would need to rig a biped out of the three books. 2nd book is good too and has a lot of useful stuff, but third book I would only get if your getting into fur, hair, cloth simulation rigging.

Other good book is Stop Staring. Aside from being the most often recommended guide to face rigging, its lessons can be applied to all parts of rigging a character.

anyone think is possible to achieve that leverl of master rig in 3ds max?. I had decided to keep with 3ds max some time ago since i thought Maya is not for me. But watching this im not sure if it was the right decision.

@samuelmq you could there are alot of really cool custom rigs for 3ds max. it just depends on where you look. i myself buy alot (like to many) books on rigging in maya between cartoony and regular rigs and there are some for 3ds max too. google would be a good place to look and amazon. thats where i found most of mine

Anyone know of a tutorial that covers the arms "Space switching with auto snap" at 0:50 or the not- role arm setup at 0:27

I kind of understand query the values of the IK and having the FK match it using the xform command but then how do you get it to be controlled by different parts of the body?

It can't be just having a script that deletes a parent constraint on the wrist null and creating a new one as I don't think that would work when you try to key frame it.

their are heaps of similiar rigs in blender might i suggest ward7299 decent tutorials for blender, but i think in comparison blender and maya are pretty similiar with features.

usa maya.. no lo ves? da igual que seas diplomado o que seas un amateur de aprendizaje autodidacta... para hacer esto debes de meter horas y tener un ingenio descomunal y ademas muchas ganas... el campo de la animacion es incoparablemente mas dificil que el modelado y el texturizado... este tio es para mi ya un referente!
