  • Oatmeal in the packets is just as good. Especially if you're in a hurry. Who has time to measure cinnamon etc to make this? not me. I'll pour a packet of blueberry muffin oatmeal into a cup or bowl, add a half cup of milk and microwave it. Keeps me satisfied for hours and I even lost some weight.

  • @simonliquify When I do eat bacon it's turkey bacon. I don't eat pork. But I really like chicken. But I hate the skin. I eat fish the most though. I kind of have too because my sister lost a lot of weight and my mom doesn't like cooking fatty foods. I'm probably the only 17 year old that enjoys oatmeal over junk food. lol

  • i recently started Oatmeal in fat free milk daily as my breakfast, and I did buy a measuring cup, 1/2 cup and 1 cup serving size measuring cups... How much oatmeal can you recommend for daily intake for breakfast? Someone told me having 3 cups is too much and can be unhealthy...

    - Dont add table salt/ If you really need salt use All Natural Sea Salt

    - Dont use microwave as it kills its nutritional value

    - Dont use tap water

    My healthier way is

    - Organic oatmeal

    - Poor in hot pure water

    - Add organic raw honey

    - Add 1 scoop of all Natural whey protein.

    My way taste great and great for your health.. This way has no nutritional value and I dont know if it taste good because I dont bother with foods that have no nutritional value.

  • @nousername21 Bacons probably more beneficial for you than oatmeal. Oatmeals rich in carbohydrates and eating it for breakfast everyday seriously ups your risk of getting type 2 diabetes.

    Theres as much carbohydrate/sugar in one oatmeal bowl than there is in one can of pepsi.

  • @dadubs93 oatmeal contains high amount of complex carbohydrates which is good for you. It's the simple carbohydrates, found in sugar, that you should avoid.

  • @nousername21 You say that - yet my Diabetic friends you ate oatmeal for breakfast (since its stupidly recommended on the NHS diet for diabetics) ended up getting such high blood sugars that their heart beats we're on par with those with cardiac conditions.

    A carb is a carb - they all contain the same monomers - Complex ones are broken up by the body regardless as the body try's to break down chains into glucose for energy. Glucose is extremely high in Pot. Energy - too high infact.

  • @dadubs93 have your friends tried to do some high intensity workouts before eating oatmeal? And yes I mean in the morning, right before breakfast, for 20 minutes or so. I highly recommend eating oatmeal after a workout. And don't put any sugar in it, not even brown sugar. Try finding organic honey, that's much better.

  • @nousername21 Oatmeal would be suited to a high intensity lifestyle with loadsa workouts. But for your average Joe, of whom plenty eat oatmeal, it will pile pounds on them. And this food is promoted as a healthy eating food for weight reduction over red meats!

  • @dadubs93 seriously, you don't need a lot of high intensity workouts. 20 minutes every morning, high intensity (either cardio, full body strength, explosive power training etc.) Once you are done, you can have oatmeal. No added sugar or anything else. If you have organic honey, that's the only thing that should be added for flavor. That's how I did it, that's how my brother did it, and it worked for us...

    But I can understand that most people don't have that kind of time in the morning.

  • @nousername21 Yep, but as i said, the average person who gets up at 6:30 in the morning, has to iron their shirt, have a wash, run about their house - all the while still being half asleep and rushing to get out of the house before 7 to get their train to work doesn't normally do 20 minute exercizes in the mornings (albeit it would be a good idea, everyone should be doing it)

    Having oatmeal should be reserved to high energy lifestyles, not limited, and its limited E. people that are eating it

  • i put wheat germ,wheat bran,and crushed flax seed in my oatmeal. i think better fell better and my headaches went away .

    as long as you get the plain instant they really aren't any different from any other rolled oats with the bran removed. look at the ingredients, %100 oats means nothing added. (though it doesn't mean that something has been taken out of the oats.) SOME oats do have the bran remaining. not all.

  • Plain Steel cut Oats cooked with warm water & fresh fruit is the best choice. even plain oats cooked with water & no fruit or no sugar is awesome.

  • I don't think quick oats are all that great. Go for the old-fashioned rolled oats. The texture is much better and doesn't turn to mush.

    I tend to like mine savoury, using broth for the base. I sometimes mix in peanut butter to already cooked oatmeal and that's tasty.

  • Ehem, maybe you don't know, but nothing raw goes in the microwave unless you want zero vitamins, If you cook the oatmeal in the microwave it's useless to eat, this is true when it comes to raw food, like meat and actually oat to, (A doctor told me this after a patient that ONLY used his microwave when cooking came in and was feeling very very ill, this was the explanation, after it, he felt better, Plus that it tastes better when done on the stove to)

    Boil the Oatmeal with Milk (no microwave), and your adding a cinnamon stick then add sugar as you like, and that is a delicious oatmeal, water is nasty!

  • add raisins and you dont need to add sugar. It tastes a lot better and you get antioxidants with raisins so thats a plus plus. Adding bananas and almonds tastes good also

    pinch of cinnamon

    & use skimmed milk rather than the water

  • you should try traditional scotish porridge oats

    there way more filling than oatmeal and keeps you going a lot longer.

    they taste very similar but the traditional thick type has more texture and you dont need as much

    a little more prep time too but worth it

    try it with honey or as an alternative your fave syrup or jam

    you can also cook it in the microwave just like oatmeal

    excellent for lowering cholesterol and a heathy gut ;)

  • if you want your oats to cook quickly, just soak them in milk or water the night before and in the morning they'll take a minute or two to cook.

    also, if i were you... i'd definitely use steel cut oats. if you need more than just the oatmeal for breakfast, either cook some more oats or have some fruit with it.

    i'm sorry to say but your breakfast is not just 280 cal... and microwaving everything is not that great either.

    Ive ate this stuff on and off for years. Just used different ways. The whole meal is quite heavy, like that "rock-in-the-gut" feeling. And the craving for some meat afterwards I can relate to wholeheartedly. ^^

    Aint usin it for diet, just an good brekkie.

  • Your breakfast is like 500 calories or even more. Get that sugar out of your oatmeal, and dith the bread and baon. Try a banana or apple with your oatmeal. Egg whites are fine too.

  • This oatmeal is certainly a lot healthier than the instant oatmeal packets with lots of sugar and preservatives and a lot healthier than the stuff at McDonalds. People need to pick their battles and work with healthy choices that work for them. Not everyone has the time and lifestyle; as long as they have health in mind, this is fine (and I would add some canned pumpkin and pumpkin spice, along with some fat free cool whip. Yum :) )
