that's what I just started doing with my acoustic solo project, I will loop the rhythm then add some distortion for the lead....works and sounds great!

You don't need to get a pedal just get an amplifier with a 'boost' or 'drive' button i.e built in distortion costs around £40/$70 for a 15w.

Built in distortion is always never as good as what stuff like greenscreamers can provide.

If your still using your amps distortion, save up for a greenscreamer or tubescreamer and you won't regret it.
