  • From Brazil

    From Marcio

I liked your class very much, teacher.

    Many hugs from Brazilian people.

    Peace!

  • that is great. Thank u so much.

  • I enjoy watching these because it makes me aware of pronunciation, but sometimes when I try to compare the words to how I say them, I become conscious of it, so I get confused! :D

  • this is really helpful to me. it takes me like 10 seconds to translate numbers to English every time.

  • Oh gosh, as a French it is so hard for me to pronounce the "th" sound in seventeenTH!!

  • @kedd5 I'm American, make sure to pronounce the R. Like "ThiRty, or ThiRteen"

It's sounds like a errrrr sound those R's.

  • i used to take english courses in community college, but now dont have time for that. so now I learn english by myself, watch videos in youtube and study grammar books. thanks you for posting this video, help me a lot.

  • OMG - 10 years in the US and this is the first time I realize that 90 is pronunced like this.

  • thank u so much :)

  • Today I found the answer to many of my problems through your videos. Thanks a lot Lisa, you made my day:)

  • I cant pronunce 13 and 30, 31....39 ..I just cant..

  • Haha I'm an american and keep listening to her she speaks a good accent.

  • ThankS, it was pretty interesting, it really helped me

  • @Aaronmogi HAhaha I do!!!

  • I'm just wondering if Americans watch this video, do you repeat what she say? hahaha...

  • wow...as a non english native speaker it really helps me a lot

I've always had problems in pronuncing numbers

and it really surprised me most of native eng speakrs don't realize its differences they just come naturally o_0

  • @Leejayxd We definitely don't realize the differences haha

  • I watch this and i'm from Switzerland :D

  • i love you Lisa. this is very useful for chinese speaking ppl like me

  • This video is about the -TEENs versus the -TYs; therefore, those that add +10 as compared with those that multiply by ×10.

  • OMG, this is the mistake that i've made more than 100 times, thank u so much

  • this video is very helpful , thanks Lisa : )

  • I bet more than half the views on these videos are Americans who watch just for curiosity's sake. Don't get me wrong; I'm American and I think it's awesome, but yeah most of the views and comments are probably curious Americans.

  • thanks

  • I was 5 yrs old when I came to America 25 yrs ago and my accent is more american than anything else. The language is confusing to non-native speakers especially if they encounter americans who speak bad english :( It's irritating when people talk like this: "You was at your mama house" or "He don't know nothing no more". They should go back to school and learn proper english. Perhaps new immigrants can teach them.

  • That was nice! I love American English.

  • waaw!! very interesting!!!!

  • great.so helpful for non-native speakers. thank you so much.

  • good.. very help

  • awesome... i enjoyed alot. thanks

  • I find this helpful. Thank you teacher :)

  • that's so good .. thank you

  • honestly i love your Lecture its help me up

  • I did my master in English titerature but this is a new experience for me to correct my mistakes, espeacially the examples i appreciate very much...

  • id like to buy the dvd but im from germany and i cant find it

  • perfect

  • I'm asking, who said that English was easy? :)

  • @leavenable only people with english as their 1st language would say its easy

  • @ilovesparky13 Because we took 5 years to learn it 'properly,' and currently are still learning it as we continue to grow older. English speakers never become perfect at their own language due to new words and dialects being introduced constantly.

  • I love your videos, it helps me a lot :)

  • This is very useful.. I didnt know about " twenty e th"

  • Thank you miss,You Rock.!

  • lol, i never thought of how i pronounce my numbers until i watched this video. thanks

  • Madam, I will love you forever!

    Thank you for lessons!

  • British accent is better than American accent for beginners, because is very clear, very kind and slowly, is my opinion but we should to learn both accent

  • @samurai50062 I think that American accent is better

  • @samurai50062 i agree with you... but if i lived in US i would have spoken American accent...

  • @samurai50062 I learn english and I think American accent is so much better than British..for me is better xD

  • Obrigado!

    Thanks from Brazi!

  • awesome video...I've been always wondering about all these issues...

By the way by the way you just said /u:zhu:eli:/

sorry for wrong phonetics but I mean why you pronounced the /e/ after /zhu:/?

I used to say actually as /aksheli:/ NOT /akchu:eli:/ and

I used to say usually as /u:zhu:li:/ NOT /u:zhu:eli:/

Could an American help me please?

  • @CyrusFun dude, its /akchu:eli:/ only "cake boys" say /aksheli:/

  • I'm American and I enjoy watching these videos because I never realized we make all these differences between spelling and pronunciation. I especially enjoy when you make examples of how not to say it, it makes me think of examples where I have heard it pronounced the wrong way.

  • @ferrous45 lol mee too! she talking about "stressing the syllables" and im like wow, really?? i started saying over and over again and then i noticed XD

  • Really love your video lessons! When are you going to upload the next one? Looking forward to it!

  • why am i watching this? im american...

  • @chillynj I'm American too, it's absolutely fascinating to watch.

  • @chillynj LMAO...

  • @chillynj

Hahahahahahaha!!! Me too. This is the third video I've watched. And I'm actually repeating after her. Smh.

  • @chillynj haha yeah, my friends think im weird cuz i like to watch videos on how to speak with an american accent XD

  • @chillynj :)))

  • @chillynj these videos make me laugh

  • thanks you very much.. i really learned a lot.

  • It's really not complicadded! lol . It's hard for French (i'm from France).

  • I was thinking it's: Ninety -with a T-

  • Ninety or ninedy? Omg!

  • Actually, I pronounce it "NINEteen". Could just be a personal thing I do

Also, the 50 and 60 I say with a "d/t" sound. I also do the same thing with the "t" in "teen". Could be just be

  • point out a word " typical" .. could i say " dypical" ?

  • @Anthonyay2008 No. You just sound stupid if you say it like that.

  • Allow me to add more, a "t" is a "t" when it's the first letter or when its the first letter of the stressed syllable. eg: fifteen, the stressed syllable "teen" began with a "t" and so that "t" is a normal "t". Also, when a word ends with a "t", you hold the T and dont actually pronounce it sort of like what you do with a T+N combination. eg: caT

  • good

  • she is nice:)

  • You are an excellent teacher.

  • I am an Aussie living in USA and have been for 20 years but i still sound like an Aussie :)

  • @GigglingGirI Aussie accent is awesome!

  • @evandromexs thank you I am proud of my Aussie Accent. My husband has American Accent but he loves my accent and i love his accent omfg i love american and aussie accent.

  • @GigglingGirI Yeah! That's so great! Accents fascinates me, I love it.

  • Great! This subject is interesting!

    I mean...

These stressed words in english are naturally spoken by native speakers, but non-native speakers have trouble on stressed spelling, specially who speak portuguese, french, italian and among others languages.

Portuguese is my language indeed, so there are several diferences between portuguese and english like this stressed words, because in portuguese I speak all words clearly with equal emphasis on each word, it's kinda spanish (...)
