My folks had this album ("Calypso"); I listened to it all the time when I was a kid (during the 60's). I go around singing "The Jackass Song" ,"Day-O", "Hosanna" or "Will His Love Be Like His Rum?" at school, other kids thought I was completely whacked (and they weren't far from wrong). My mom thought it was pretty cool, tho.
My Dad had this song in cassett n i use to listen it a lot. It sounds sooo slow n peaceful now after about 10-14 years.. man time does flies by.....I am feeling home sick now.... (:
Incredible...This was the the the first song that I learned to play on guitar..
Later,I worked in a hotel where Harry was a guest. When I said to his manager that Jamaica Farewell was the first song that I played on guitar,he just couldn't believe.
He asked, but how you know that song that was some 50 years ago..When they were leaving,Belafonte asked what's my name, where I am from, and gave me his picture. He just wrote to my....,and peace.

This is one of my favorite Belafonte songs. Very poignant and smooth. This song is the one Calypso Bertrand based his "But Today I'm Drinking Coconut Rum" song on.
We used to sing this in primary school, but I didn't appreciate how good it was then

and the rhum are fine every time a year."
Ask when you don't know. It's "ackee and salt fish" and "rum"

As a born and bred Jamaican, this song brings back so many wonderful memories of my homeland ... cant help but feel homesick everytime I hear it.
A true classic and one of Belafonte's best!!!.
