It will be interesting to see what types of changes Leon Panetta brings to the CIA. When I was in college the father of a girl I was dating was friends with Panetta and I was fortunate to meet and get to know him. Leon Panetta is a fine man and when he was a Congressman out of Monterey California he served his district quite well. A very personable and reasonable guy. He showed his ethics when he left the Clinton cabinet right before the whole Monica Lewinski affair broke.

"Smokescreen"? I have worked with several of the Intel agencies over the years. Holding a TS/SCI does not necessarily mean you work with agents etc.. The CIA is divided into several divisions. Dr Scheuer was not a part of the National Clandestine Service so he was not in the field hunting anyone. 9-11 was an inside job. Just like the Reichstag fire. I was born in NY and lived and worked there. A airlinercrashed into the Empire State Building in 1939, it didn't collapse. No. 7 wasn't hit by a plane and collapsed. As for the US being the source of all the strife and problems in the world, yes it is. The global economic crisis started here. Washington pulls the string in global foreign policy, by invading other countries, using codes such as "peacekeeping operations", "fighting communism"!
The Empire State building was hit by a much smaller plane travelling at a much lower speed, so it's not really a fair comparison, but it is the only one. Building No.7, like many buildings around the twin towers, was engulfed in flames and collapsed because the internal gas heating exploded, thus causing the building to implode.
Building 7 didn't have gas heating, so that's not true. NIST actually issued a report last year claiming that the little diesel fuel stored near the bottom of the building and the structural damage from the collapse of the Twin Towers did not do sufficient damage to cause WTC7 to fall.
Admittedly, the fires in that building were small, but that's supposed to be the one and only reason it imploded.
Maybe you should take your tinfoil hat off and ask yourself this: Even if the 911 attacks were an inside job, what is the logic for demolishing the buildings? Why is that important to get people afraid of terrorists? People being incinerated and jumping from 1000ft would've provided all the shock and awe necessary for what they would've needed to do.
From the ultimate cynic's point of view: the collapse of the Twin Towers certainly netted the owners of the building far more through insurance proceeds than the building space could've been leased or sold today. Incidentally, there's that $8 billion dollar building renovation that said owners did not want to undertake.

Bin Laden Station's mission as "to track [bin Laden], collect intelligence on him, RUN OPERATIONS AGAINST HIM, disrupt his finances, and warn policymakers about his activities and intentions"
Operations were of course run against Bin Laden but Scheuer was not running them. He the lead analyst so field ops were not his job. He would collect and look at the intel and if something actionable was developed we would then run the op using CIA field personnel or personnel from USSOCOM. In a nutshell, that's how things typically work.

The 707 has about the same fuel capacity and overall mass. Recall that a cargo jet had already slammed into the Empire State Building due to the fog.
U may argue that the cover-up is appropriate or necessary but it's not logically possible to negate its existence.

It will be interesting to see what types of changes Leon Panetta brings to the CIA. When I was in college the father of a girl I was dating was friends with Panetta and I was fortunate to meet and get to know him. Leon Panetta is a fine man and when he was a Congressman out of Monterey California he served his district quite well. A very personable and reasonable guy. He showed his ethics when he left the Clinton cabinet right before the whole Monica Lewinski affair broke.

Scheuer was not a "CIA agent" as you say. He was an analyst. And FYI: The men and women in the operational side of the agency are NOT agents. They are case officers. Case officers often deploy overseas and recruit foreign nationals to work for the CIA and they are agents. The Case officer runs the networks of agents.

"Smokescreen"? I have worked with several of the Intel agencies over the years. Holding a TS/SCI does not necessarily mean you work with agents etc.. The CIA is divided into several divisions. Dr Scheuer was not a part of the National Clandestine Service so he was not in the field hunting anyone. You obviously have never held a clearance if you think a TS/SCI means you work with agents or are one if employed by CIA. You are really miss informed if you think Bin Laden was an agency asset.

9-11 was an inside job. Just like the Reichstag fire. I was born in NY and lived and worked there. A airlinercrashed into the Empire State Building in 1939, it didn't collapse. No. 7 wasn't hit by a plane and collapsed. As for the US being the source of all the strife and problems in the world, yes it is. The global economic crisis started here. Washington pulls the string in global foreign policy, by invading other countries, using codes such as "peacekeeping operations", "fighting communism"!

The Empire State building was hit by a much smaller plane travelling at a much lower speed, so it's not really a fair comparison, but it is the only one. Building No.7, like many buildings around the twin towers, was engulfed in flames and collapsed because the internal gas heating exploded, thus causing the building to implode.

Building 7 didn't have gas heating, so that's not true. NIST actually issued a report last year claiming that the little diesel fuel stored near the bottom of the building and the structural damage from the collapse of the Twin Towers did not do sufficient damage to cause WTC7 to fall.
Admittedly, the fires in that building were small, but that's supposed to be the one and only reason it imploded.

Maybe you should take your tinfoil hat off and ask yourself this: Even if the 911 attacks were an inside job, what is the logic for demolishing the buildings? Why is that important to get people afraid of terrorists? People being incinerated and jumping from 1000ft would've provided all the shock and awe necessary for what they would've needed to do.

From the ultimate cynic's point of view: the collapse of the Twin Towers certainly netted the owners of the building far more through insurance proceeds than the building space could've been leased or sold today. Incidentally, there's that $8 billion dollar building renovation that said owners did not want to undertake.
The timing was spot on in terms of economic factors, not to mention the initiation of an imperial adventure in the Middle East at the zenith of neocon influence.

As a neo-con myself, that is a former Jewish liberal who was influenced by Ronald Reagan's apparent successes against the USSR, and his passionate defense of freedom and capitalismk, I voted for Bush twice, but switched my vote back to Obama in the last election due to Bush's swagger and ineptness. I don't buy into conspiracy theories, but did reluctantly buy into the hope that perhaps pushing democracy in the Muslim world might improve things. Now, only time will tell.

"Pushing democracy"...that is the folly of our entire foreign policy and at the base of neocon ideology. Democratic or representative governance by any other name cannot be forced onto people, and history displays this time and again.
Continuing to impose the will of Western powers onto these populations will only lead to greater resentment of America, in particular, proportional to the length of time and severity of force employed for such foolhardy purposes.
I'm not too sanguine, personally.

If the purpose of the United States is not to "push" democracy, then what is it? For what did tens of millions immigrate here for if not for freedom? Just money? Yes, times are bad. The US was in a Great Depression in the 1930s and pulled inwards, so Mussolini, Hitler and Tojo were able to build up, and in the end we were dragged into war anyway. We could not hide from it. If there ever is to be a world at peace, there is no solution other than democratization.But I agree not at bayonet pnt.

What makes America different from any aggressive imperialist power then, if America only exists to use violence to force our system and influence on others?
Also, America wasn't dragged into WWII, it was an interventionist power - had America not chosen to try to aggressively exert its influence then it could have easily maintained its neutrality in WWII.
In much the same way that the current conflict between the Middle East and the USA is a result of American aggression and intervention.

@ArcoFlagellant Most of the American people were highly isolationists. However, the fascists in Europe tried aggressively to recruit the American public as allies in WWII. There also had been fascist plotters to overthrow democracy in America violently and they had significant support in large American businessmen. FDR was well aware of this and took the chance of a Pearl Harbor attack by being tough on Japan. Remember that both Japan and Germany declared war on the US first.

@ArcoFlagellant I served TAD on the USS Turner Joys somewhat after this event and I met no one I met believed they were attack on Aug, '64 in The Tonkin Gulf. Even the Navy and Robert McNamara have admitted that fact as well. LB J used that as an excuse to offically start the War in Vietnam. BUSH used Saddams ALLEGED WMDs to start the Iraq

@sonofaglitch2 - Are you sure it was $8 billion. I heard it was $6 Billion to remove the asbestos. Heck, imploding it cost em nothing. As to the asbestos, that went into the lungs of the cleanup crew, half of whom are now dead.

Operations were of course run against Bin Laden but Scheuer was not running them. He the lead analyst so field ops were not his job. He would collect and look at the intel and if something actionable was developed we would then run the op using CIA field personnel or personnel from USSOCOM. In a nutshell, that's how things typically work.

The only problem was that in many cases, Scheuer and the Bin Laden Unit ("Alec Station"), would gather good intel, but the DCI or other Brass would want better or more reliable intel which couldn't be provided and thus, many MANY good chances to kill Bin Laden, FORTUNATELY, were wasted.
