  • my chris craft needs this engine !

  • After a tough day at work, this video played through my home stereo makes me feel better. I'd gladly take a sponsorship from you guys!

  • So this engine uses sea water for cooling? Can it be made a closed system for salt cold water operation? Whats involved? Thanks!

  • @aaadream Engine does have closed system on it, check out 1:06 in the video.

  • @michiganmotorz2008 The exhaust manifolds use raw or sea water right? How does it hold up in salt? Is it all Stainless inside? We use total enclosed cooling for manifolds and engine around salt water. That's why I was asking. Up on the Lakes and fresh water I can see that working fine. Thanks! I am always looking at other setups for ideas. Around heavy salt water engines and cooling systems take a beating.

  • Phil, looking into the new 502, 8.2L mag 380hp with you guys at the moment, it'd be great to see one of these videos with your overview for it ??

  • The bass line of that engine is incredible, I love the cam lope. Could you imagine that with a 3 litre Whipple Roots? :)

  • can i take a motor out of an old truck and pop it in a boat?

  • @Ryandavis33 fuel gauge? I thought that was the countdown till you can floor it....10...9....8

  • @Ryandavis33 you can put a marine engine in a car/truck but you cant put a automotive engine in a boat because marine engines are built with beefed up components intakes and exhaust manifolds will exchage tho

  • Selman22, well duh?!!! It's water cooled exaust

  • i can see the fuel guage moving already!!

  • WTF .. Is it usual to see the water coming out from the exhaust?????

  • @sleman22 damnit! he must have blown the head gasket already :( haha. oh wait, how does a marine motor get cooled???? :)

  • @sleman22 yes this is standard practice for marine engines. They suck seawater for cooling via a heat exchanger then the water goes into the exhaust to dampen the sound of the motor as these motors do not have mufflers unlike a car as you can hear. its a beast.

  • WTF 8.1 litres. It must drink petrol. Seriously.

  • @tescofood well duh of course it will it's a 496 big block, when you put that engine in a boat, given you can afford the engine in the first place you don't care about gallons per hour, you want to go fast :)

  • just the engines torque might flip the boat

    XP

  • best engine sound on youtube

  • hey all,im a new boat owner now with a 30" scarab 1986,with 2 big block chevys, anyone here familiar with this monster?

  • @TheWiseguy00 A 30 inch boat?? wow...with 2 big block engines? DANG!!!!!

  • now thats chevy power!!!!!

  • that is one giant motor

  • Will this engine fit into a 1999 Fours Winns 254 Candia Funship? I have a 1999 Volvo Penta 7.4 Gen 6 in there now.

  • Yes, I need you to give me a call to discuss more in detail.

  • The 8.1 is built off of a modified Chevy 454 (7.4) block, so it should be fairly easy.

  • NO the 8.1L is NOT built off a modified 454. Nothing internal or external from a 454 will work on a 8.1L. (other than the bell-housing) Two totally different motors. The only common thing is both engines are built via GM.

  • @michiganmotorz2008 The 8.1 is a 496 ci engine.I like them.

  • @michiganmotorz2008 What about bore and stroke and bore angle? Meaning the degree's of angle in the V? is this all updated to a completely different block?

  • @kwaky2005 Good Question! Bore/Stroke 4.25x4.37(108 x 11 mm). Bore Center 122.94 mm, Bore Area 732.19 cm

  • @michiganmotorz2008 hey phill, i need to ask a few questions... i want to build either an 8.1L, or 7.4L for our suburban, im leaning towards 8.1L though... i keep on hearing about all of these marine parts, please enlighten me, if/when i build it, what parts should i upgrade to marine parts? i would assume you cant just use a full marine engine for a few reasons though...

  • @firehawk400 No it's not. try to find where the distributor goes on a 8.1L. totally different engine and casting. The 8.1l replaces the 7.4l. Just like the 5.3 replaced the old 5.7

  • @firehawk400 It's a 496

  • imagine a turbo on it O.O HELL YEA CHEVY! and you problably could fit it on a car with heavy moding to the body

  • it said vortec on the cover, Hell yeah Chevy!!!

  • sick power :D

  • can you fit it in a car? Lovely engine that and certainly some power.

  • They use the 8.1L in some Trucks and RV's. This exact engine dressed cannot fit into a Car. It is setup for Marine use only.

  • @urbex2007 my 2001 Silverado 2500HD 4x4 has the 8.1 with a 6 speed manual behind it, hard to find but they are out there.

  • dude, thats a 496. fast motor

  • hey guys i live in miami woh much would cost to buy a running 7.4 merc with shiping from you guys? please answer as a reply comments cause i no longer recieve e mails through this e mail adres,.
