i've been suffering from EHS for a while but only experience from time to time. I'll be between the stage of awake and asleep and all the sudden i'll hear a loud noice that is a hallucination. The other night i heard what sounded like a car crashing into my house, so i ran into the living room and everything was fine. I also have a fan in my bedroom that i use as a white noise machine. The fan is not loud at all, but on 2 occasions it was so loud i thought a tornado was ripping through my room
I can't get good sleep at night. I mean I sleep good , but when I wake up and never feel like I got enough sleep. So when I'm at work , I turn off the lights in the bathroom and doze off for like 20 seconds. Hopefully I can get on track again. I just feel like crap , sometimes I feel like people are better than me , and no matter how hard I try I can never get to the place I want to get.
@Retrofanatic10 We'll be posting a video about esteem pretty soon, it's a difficult topic but there are some things we can do improve our self-esteem and feel better about ourselves. Those feelings could definitely be causing your sleep troubles... hopefully we can help with both!
@Retrofanatic10 If you drink products with Caffeine that explains a big part of your trouble. Caffeine and simple sugars lead to adrenal exhaustion. It becomes a viscious cycle you can't escape. Stresses in life are contributors to adrenal exhaustion also. Poor diet also because every stressful meal adds more toll to overall amount of energy. If you workout, try meditational workouts vs. strenous. If you drive fast, slow down and relax. Every moment you can relax adds up over the day.
@MormonManUtah Actually it's funny. I don't drink alot of caffeine , I mostly drink water. I've been eating healthier , I eat less meat now. I was also able to get 9 hours of sleep last night , so I feel a lot better.
I have always had insomnia, but there was this one time i stayed awake for nearly 9 days it was hell i was seeing things, hearing things & there was always things in the corner of my eyes & I was so paranoid that I beleived I was being watched.
I then went too a hospital & they put me on a drip & gave me valium & I felt soooo much better.
Back during my amphetamine addiction days, I would spend up to 5 days without sleep. Day 5 was crazy, I'd take a HUGE dose of speed and yet I'd end up falling asleep a couple hours later, I was so exhausted that my brain didn't have enough energy to even respond to a stimulant.
Strangely enough, I could still maintain some mental composure and I never had any hallucinations other than seeing things in the corner of my eye. I'm done with that shit, though.
.............i don't get much sleep, ..... in the past few years ive had trouble sleeping and i did halluinate and have psychotic moments... i still do now, its 2.30 am and i'm going completely mad, sometimes im just laughing at nothing, other times im thinking gloom and doom, violence horror murder death kill stuff,,,,,, sometimes its sexual aggressive thoughts, in the past i've drank large amounts of alchohol to knock myself out sometimes, tried sleeping pills and allsorts, having sex helps !
@trinityfan...don't do that...for 3 1/2 years straight!! You're crazy...don't do what I did in the past and get less sleep. I now realize that sleep is vital for everyone's health and well being. It restores your brain functions, immune system, your DNA, and puts more oxygen to all the cells. 3 1/2 years...you're not immortal! You are human, and you need more than that.
I slept 4 hours a day for 2 months straight when I used to work Graveshift...I was pretty fatigued and depressed, just irritable. One day though I heard a door slam shut, and a voice said "Hello! I see you" I heard footsteps coming upstairs....FREAKED ME OUT! I was frickin scared.
That was all in the past...now since I work dayshift, things got a lot better and I'm getting my normal 8 hours, and sometimes take power naps during the day. Sleep deprivation is real guys, just avoid it!
Hi I love your videos. Do you think studying to much maths and physics could make you go mad? Because I've been feeling kind of weird recently and I'm starting to think, that knowing to much about how the universe works can cause one to become disconnected. Please answer
Last week during a convention I slept +-3 hours each night, during the day I was working focused for the other 20-21 hours while consuming copious ammounts of alcohol. The weird thing is after the first hour after waking up I was again hyper alert for the rest of the day, and that repeated several days in a row.
I could feel my body was exhausted and intoxicated but I was not tired, and could stay 100% focussed. That was some 3 days in a row.
Sleep deprivation on a daily basis for a long period of time really does a number on the body. I know this first hand. Severe lack of sleep caused me to gain weight, it brought on Diabetes, it caused my blood pressure to stay very high, it made me a nervous wreck, and it even caused me to feel depressed as well as have symptoms of mania. Depriving one's self of sleep for an experiment is one thing, but doing it all the time is definitely not good (to say the least).
I've been doing the whole 3 1/2 hours of sleep thing for a couple years now and I'm perfectly fine. I feel more active and alert. Scientists say it can lead to obesity, but last I checked I'm still as skinny as a tooth pick. So, I'm guessing sleep works one way in some people and different in others. For me, eight hours of sleep leaves me waking up disoriented.
i havent been sleeping hardly at all lately and now i feel like im losing my mind i dont remember things i see stuff and i feel like i cant be around those i love cuz i see the changes and i hate what im turning into but i cant stop it like im not in control
I have insomnia and it takes me about an hour or two to get to sleep but once I am sleeping I dream a lot and when I wake up, after a long sleeping duration, I feel tired! . . . it's like if you sleep too much you get sleep deprived!?!
I've intentionally experimented with sleep deprivation. it seemed to make me slightly more creative, but moody and I didn't want to be around people. once I started getting enough sleep, these things stopped. sleep deprivation effects are very temporary. caffeine intake was very high in my time with no sleep.
It's been almost a full year now since I've had one week of consistent sleep (8 hours a night or more) I've felt depressed and also felt like I'm living in a dream for about 85% of this past year. I know now sleep is number one in getting me better but there's a problem, even if I wanted to get sleep I can't. I've tried literally everything from exercise to drinking milk before bed to getting natural sunlight each day to meditation and none of it works. So, what do I do?
People are not getting enough sleep because of increasing work hours and long commutes both ways. I know people who have to go to bed within one hour of getting home from work. As nobody wants to spend their lives either working or sleeping, workers resent going to bed very early, they want to have a life so they actively fight against exhaustion and are even more tired the next day.
A couple of years ago I was so tense about an upcoming third year university exam that I was awake for 40 hours straight right before the exam. I sat the exam and actually passed. I felt extremely tired afterwards.
when i dont sleep....i feel more active its weird. when i dont sleep for like 48 hrs i feel like i remmember more things and do better on tests because i stayed awake from 12am to 7am studying for a test and going to school and taking the test and got 90+ alll the time =) i like it but later i crash and thats the bad part.
I get a feeling of disconnection with my body and surroundings, short bursts of short term memory loss and horrible panic attacks when I have to move to somewhere or do something
ok i got question i cant sleep well even with exercise and stuff when i dream it not good dreams im also bipolor so they say and anxity bad but when i do take my meds help me sleep but i still feel tired and if not on meds i cant sleep when i do the dreams wakes me either way it sucks for me any advice on what to do i mean like rite it 12 34 am been up since 8 am wont go to bed til bout 2 am then wake up at 4 am try to go to sleep then i tossin and truning til my 2 yr old wakes me what should do
Now on psychotropic drugs, she takes Celexa for Depression, Trilafon (voices and hallucinations), Cogentin (prevent side effects from Trilafon), Klonopin (anxiety, insomnia), and Depakote (moodiness).
My 26 y old sister was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder in August 09 after experiencing very irregular sleeping patterns for several weeks (two or three). Overwhelmed with school tests, started drinking large amounts of coffee and herbal mate. Paranoic symptoms emerge, yelling and impersonating and was taken to the ER.
well, i dont know much about this, but if im honest i sleep a lot, like some times 16 hours a day, but i rarely dream, i have seen that the day i actualy dream about something i feel a lil bit more calm, because im a very agresive person, in fact when i dont sleep well i can be really problematic, one time i only sleept like 3 hours in 3 days (school exam close) and a friend of mine was trying 2 get me 2 walk with him 2 the store and i got really pissed and actually KO'd my friend
you know what?!! The more psychiatrists there are, the more human behaviors are labeled "mental disorder"... seems to be a great form of job security, don't ya think?
I'm no expert, but it besically wreaks havoc on your entire endrocine system. It can screw up GH output, the balance of all your neuro transmitters, your sympathetic/ para symapthetic nervous system balance, and so on and so forth.
Not sleeping for 20 hours quit paranoia for the 20 hours. But, the week of hyper-awareness that followed was excruciating in its inescapable paranoia.
I have MPD and I have had problems with sleep. I've been afraid of being abused after I went to sleep. So, I didn't want to sleep. In the past, I would stay up late because of this. The minute I would hit the bed, I'd sleep. But, after years of doing this, falling asleep come with more difficulty. Now, the only way I can sleep is on anti-seizure medicine. I work hard to get myself in bed. But, it's important that I do so.
I don't know in which category I fit best. I do sleep, but it's as if the day had more hours than the night. So that means I may end up sleeping during the morning, sometimes during the afternoon, and sometimes during the night. I do not hallucinate in the sense of seeing or hearing things around me, but I dream while I'm awake and these dreams are very intense! Sometimes they are of sexual desire, or of self-guilt, or of absolute hate towards someone or everyone hating me, makes me wish to die.
acurx ! Thats whay I'm sayin!!! Hell ya. heh heh heh. I dunno why that cracked me up so bad but I almost swallowed her,, I mean MY tounge when I red acrux post, Bottom line,,, Sandy is a habit forming euphoriacicle!!!!
Sleep deprivation for a night is a treatment for depression. Look it up. By not destroying serotonin to make Melatonin, the body gets a short term boost. I notice this all the time, I work at night.
i always feel scared to go to sleep because i feel if i go to sleep someone is going to break in my home and harm me so i usually dont go to sleep till 2-3 am
........Drugs are drugs legal or illegal, they should be handled responsibly and accordingly!!!dire to purpose/intent or use for the medication!!!!Depression is a phase, my opnion. Look at t ths way: you can be de-pressed or you can de-press I hope this analogy is clear ...chao!!!
Hello! Lets begin! IIts odd but when I sleep to much I become lazy or lathargiic, and just want to rest/sleep more. If I stretch, which is my best tactical move against it.lol, And or sleep less with a diiet of a little amount of food through out a 2 day period and a usual smoke my conciousness is different. My physical strenght is almost limitless, given proper rest, lol.Or a smoke, lol. Mayby some grains or something small...
As a student a oftenly had sleepless nights, and I have became pretty familiar with the symphtoms. It's usualy around 3-5am when you are getting most sleppy, and you also constantly lose your focus, and your mind is wanderig, and the time seems to be standing still. When the morning comes The slippines goes away and an eupforia comes in it's place. The boody tries to get you up and running for the day, so some natural stimulants are prboably flowing at that moment.
Your boddy didn't had time to recover from the previous day's expreriences and it's emotonal(hormonal) load, and is stil pumping hormons, so they start to accumulate, and change your perspective about the thing around you.
At some point when you are not doing anything, the body will try to make up for the loss of sleep, and you will find yourself day-dreeming.
Once I hve been awake for 85 hours, and at the end I was daydreaming and hlucinateing most of the time, and only getting in touch with reality when I had to make so specifick dissision, because I am doing something at the same time, but when I can continue diong it automaticly, my attention is again swtched to the alternative reality of dreams.
When I do get enough sleep, I am quite a flat-whatever-the-word-was (the opposite by-polar). If I hadn't enough sleep during the night, I have hard time concentrateing, and can go angry easely.
However when I haven't slept all night, I am more of an euphoric. I would lugh at tings that can otherwise make me angry.
When people looked at me, I automatically thought they were trying to imply their hatred toward me or something. So the whole day, I did my best not to talk to anybody. Lastly I saw so many things out of the corner of my eye. I thought I was going to die I was so miserable.
The fourth day, I admit I accidentally feel asleep for a good thirty minutes until I had to drive to school again, and I believe I lucid dreamt I woke up, got ready and was on my way to school, but I woke up and had to relive my dream in real life. That was the worst day of school ever. I'm already a paranoid mother fucker and when people laugh in groups, I couldn't help but "know" they were laughing at me.
The third day, I was driving back home and i was dozing off a few times. Because I live about an hour away from school, I had to blast the heaviest metal I had on my ipod to keep me awake. Sometimes when I passed bushes and certain mailboxes, they looked like animals like deer, so that kept me on my toes too.
I couldn't sleep one night, and I didn't feel like sleeping the next night so I decided to see how long I could go without any sleep. I got to about 4 days.
The first two days were great. I have symptoms of depression and anxiety, and depriving myself from sleep actually put me in a very good and energetic mood.
i once entered a competition with 2 other people to see who could stay awake the longest.
it was a fight against my body's will to sleep, a few days into it i was hallucinating big time, sensing lots of things that weren't there etc. not fun. we don't know who won because we all woke up and couldn't remember who fell asleep last.
i don't reccommend it. it sounds fun but it's not.
not necessarily however you may want to go to a sleep clinic as you may be getting too much of one phase of sleep and not enough of the other, honestly if you are worried about it then you should get it checked out,
Information wise this video is good. It gives good information and is presented in a nice way with examples we can relate to. However this video looses points because of uniform violation . That is, hair tied back, glasses, a vest, a slightly revealing under shirt, a skirt and crossed legs. Hey!! you guys set the fetish. You can condition someone and then take it away. That's not nice!!!
Not being able to sleep IS TORTURE! I am bipolar 1 and right before i was diagnosed i went MANIC and could not sleep if felt like forever! I woke up every 2 hours and went in the bathroom and looked at myself and saw death staring back at me it was insane for real. I felt like i WAS GOING TO DIE! I was diagnosed bipolar 1 and put on Serequel which helped but not entirely, then they added Lithium. And that is was worked for me, i am currently still taking them and i feel MUCH BETTER thank god!
there was a time that I felt so much anguish that I couldn't sleep more than 5 hours cause I'd wake up feeling anguish again...
Then I started to take medicine for depression and after some weeks or months I was sleeping enough... I can't say for how much time I had these "sleepnessless" thing...........
Today I'm better, but I can't remember everyday things quite well. I have no memory today... My health in general got fucked up...... But I'm much better indeed.
I went for three days without sleep once due to a really bad nightmare. By the end of it I was dead sure that my whole family was going to drug me and then turn me into a pill popper, and that my some of my fellow classmates were going to rape me. When I just don't get enough sleep I'm moody, unable to focus, and easily confused. If I do fall asleep in class I tend to be hard to wake up til the point where my teachers think I have ODed when I have not been taking any drugs.
kinda funny watching this this as i've been up for the past 2 days straight. i have prescribed sleeping medication but it doesnt effect me for some reason. i have a pretty stressful homelife. and if your wanting to know how i feal right now i pretty much feel the way i normaly do but my chest area seems different like kinda heavey and my heart is beating fast, atm. but thats just from the stress.the wierd thing is that after being up over 2 days (on my third) im not tired.well i am but i cant
I've noticed lately that when I don't get enough sleep that my heart starts pounding, with irregular beats. Like it would beat normal then slow down, then start pounding like it was trying to catch up, and my head feels every beat as well! And really gets worse just after I eat anything! Plus now I got permanent raccoon eyes! Mainly it is my fault, I just like to stay up all night on the computer, watch T.V., or playing video games in which I totally regret the next morning! Am I incurable!
i often go days and some times weeks with little or no sleep and when i do sleep it's restless and disturebed, i get horrible dreams that wake me up it can some times take hours to get back to sleep.
it really effects my personality and i get mood swings i find it hard concentrating on things which is a pain when it comes to school work.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Wowooweewahh no glases, very nice I like a da new sexy lady. I have no idea what your saying I just like watching your videos to see your sexy mouth move, keep doin what you do gurl makein that mouth move
i just feel compleatly wired my body isnt in that stressed tired mode and i hate that it gives me a phobia that i cant sleep and if i sleep to much it makes me upset idk what is wrong with me n my doc is a quack n i pay him 150 every other week but i do want to see someone i cant work it is torture if u cant sleep cuz u dont know what to do with urself omgosh thats creepy dreaming while ur awake that seems familiar ahh it dont happen much but it happens help how can i get over this tortur
I had a time without sleep I don't even know how long, over one week maybe nearer two. I was shivering the entire time, could not eat could not drink water except from teaspoon. Sounds were distorted and unrecognisable. My eyes felt burning, my head hurt but I could not sleep despite various pills.
I never slee through a night a good night would be broken about 7 hours which only happens perhaps twice a month. I sleep perhaps four or five, last night I didn't sleep. I have bipolar 11.
I'm really glad that I subscribed to Psych Truth. I have Bipolar type I and the worst period of my life was when I didn't sleep for 4 days straight. I usually get about 6 hours of sleep a night and I'm often mildly depressed : )
once after a 35 hr awake streak i thought i saw elmo about ten feet away from me but when i purposely looked harder it was a girl in a red sweat suit. Wow i knew that it had to be a hallucination.
Okay..i can sleep! but the prob is that i wake up and feel UNREFRESHED. i will have a lot of energy but it s hard to keep my eyes open during the day! like my head even starts hurting.whats wrong?
i didn't sleep for about 6 days once during a bad depression, part of which i was in a psychiatric hospital. they tried me on ambien and even that didn't work. i just felt exhausted all the time and on-edge and had very very high blood pressure.
I have to get enough sleep if I dont I get sick, I get burnt out, I go around in a low energy level and I feel barely awake. I gain weight because I continue to eat but my body is tired and listless and I dont have the chance or the energy to burn the calories. I get sick and get bedridden and I put on more weight and it is a vicious circle. I need to get plenty of sleep...and it is mandatory for me, its not something I can comprimise,Im very serious,
Sleep is extremely important... and very hard to get when you get sleep apnea... when you're not getting real sleep, hitting REM, then you will have issues with mental and physical health. The longer its allowed to go on, the worse it is, can even cause death due to the excessive stress on the heart.
For more than 25 years I have been off neuroleptics. However, I believe they gave me a permanent saddle block. After my first break I was given Haldol, but took myself off of it after about 4 mos. I remained sexually numb for 2 yrs. that time. Later, after I was married and had two children, I was given Haldol again, the 2nd time for a couple of weeks, and the third for just a few days. I have had genital anesthesia ever since, no sexual urge, and also urinary problems.
You are SO right. I think there are many people who are misdiagnosed as schizophrenic, bi-polar, etc., but are really just sleep deprived. I had 3 breakdowns, one in '75, one in '81, and one in '83. I'm glad I was a psych major ('have a BA in it) and had read similar sleep studies. After being diagnosed "chronic paranoid schizophrenic", I finally realized that my breaks came after bouts of severe sleep dep. 'Been off the drugs for over 25 years, but not without significant damage.
I get really nervous/paranoid and insecure when I don't sleep. If I go to the mall or something it feels like everyone is watching me. I start thinking about how I normally walk and it can get pretty awkward. Also my voice changes and I can't pronounce words as well. oh, and my hands get cold and sweaty.
i dont know if your familiar with the game brainage, but i kinda used it as a tool to see if lack of sleep actually affected my performance in the game. when i did get enough sleep and played the brain games i would find it much easier to complete the tasks quickly and efficiently. when i didn't get sleep, i would make dumb mistakes and perform slower. My little test was deffinately a wake up call for me and it helped me understand the importance of sleep.
For a couple months I was only able to get 4-5hrs of sleep each night and during that period, I would get the urge to cry at every little incidence. If I missed my bus, I would get so frustrated that my eyes would be filled with angry tears. Once I got my sleep back, those symptoms were gone.
ive had a sleep problem since i was 16 it goes away and then comes back to where i stay up for about a week with (no joke) 8 hours of sleep total span across the week. but i have not yet had any signs of daleria or hallucinations i do take anti-depressants (lexipro) and i cant remember my dreams from the past month. i dont want to snap or anything. what are some good website for this?
People who have been diagnosed bipolar often talk about how they are sleeping very little during a period of mania. This video suggests that we might turn the presumed cause-effect relationship on its head, and say that the mania is due to reduced sleep. I found it insightful.
thanx 4 the video. yeah i need to sleep more. i was eating supper...and then suddenly i see a car on fire.life has been a crazy drag for like 4 months.
My sleep average is 7:45 minutes. Any less will lead to gradual sleep debt to build up.
It takes a much longer sleep time(night) to recover the sleep deprivation. The result is that you end up spending even more time sleeping, because of the debt. It's like paying interest.
Not sure about the sleep cycles... but I sleep at midnight, usually.
The ultimate truth is that we don't know much about sleep at all. The optimal amount of sleep for you may not be the optimal amount of sleep for me. Every single person is different. However, you must acknowledge that antidepressants which work enormously beneficially cause a lack of sleep. Yes, a lack of sleep elevates the moods of depressed patients. It may very well be that a lack of sleep causes an elevaion in mood for some patients. Again, every person is different, we must understand that.
I need a sleep apnea test. I believe it caused me to have Night Terrors, sleep walking, night sweats, and now the newest addition to the list, Narcolepsy.
I just woke up from an episode... don't want to go back to sleep cause that = stop breathing... which triggers me to believe I will die tonight which make me not want to sleep at all... should be another productive day at work tomorrow, hope no one bugs me because I'm gonna be grumpy and snappy like a diebetic. Thats my life.
ha ha i didn't think the first one posted...never mind.... but to conclude, there has always been a loose association between mental disorders and creativity, as they say theres a fine line between insanity and genius. Thus, if sleep-deprevation is linked to mental illness could there be a link between it and creativity?
Ok I have always had trouble sleeping. But as the person below me points out may this have a positive effect? Lets take some information. I personally feel as though I have the ability to be more creative when sleep deprived. Also your example of increased neuron activity, the theory of experiencing waking dreams without REM sleep and the link made between dreams as an expression the sub-conscious do you think it could, as said below have to ability to deliver an otherwise unattainable insight?
Ok I have always had problems sleeping and I like to get into a routine. However I have always found a plus side of sleep deprivation is the ability to become more creative. Quite simply your mind is more lucid and thus experiences thoughts that wouldn't 'normally' occur. So with your example of increased neuron activity as well as the waking dreams you mention is do you think there could be a link between creativity and sleep deprivation?
I wonder, If you do not sleep much on a regular basis and begin to have problems in your day, but attempt to solve your own mental problems instead of just sleeping, dont you think this could be more likely to accually solve your problems in life. it seems that when you are tired or sleep deprived, your waking contiousness experiences thought from the unconcious. also you dont have much energy to expend to problem solve everyday isues. so it almost like fasting so that you have2Be Tru With self.
People have long stereotyped Mexicans as being lazy because they Siesta in the middle of the day. That's not being lazy, that's being smart. Of course today, most people never stereotype Mexicans as being lazy anymore. The reverse stereotype is usually applied.
There is a lot of truth to this. I have noticed that when I get enough sleep I feel 1000% better. Eating right combined w/ even the minimum level of exercise (helps sleep) is the key.
I've been up for the last 24 hours and now i'm off to school, watching this video was the perfect way to start my day! I will be spending the day over thinking my every move, I can't wait!
Whenever I haven't had at least eight hours of sleep on consecutive nights, I get tired, dysthymic, and easily agitated. Sleep is definitely an important component of a healthy lifestyle. Thanks for the great video. I haven't read the literature, but it seems reasonable that sleep deprivation can exacerbate mood disorders.
Great article. What are you trying to say 2:33-3:12? What is even more interesting than the activity burst in the amygdla is that in the sleep-deprived brain, the amygdala seemed to be "rewired," coupling to a brain stem area (fight/flight) rather than the prefrontal cortex, which helps to contextualize experiences and emotions. It is this link that the team liken with MH issues.
The lack of REM (Rapid Eye Movement (deep/dream)) sleep, which many prescription sleep medications suppress, will cause many of the effects you described. Enough REM sleep deprivation can actually produce psychosis and hallucinations. It's best to avoid sleep medications/anti-depressants as much as possible, as they are also potentially addictive. In summary, there's really "good" sleep (regular REM sleep) and "bad" sleep (irregular or deprived-REM sleep).
i have found since i stopped drinking i have a far better sleaping pattern, but you miss out the fact not everyone needs 8 hours of sleep some need more and others need less, depending on physical/mental activity, and their own natural disposition i normally have 6-7 hours of sleep per night but occassionally i need more but that is rarely.
First of all lack of sleep will cause severe weight LOSS. It can also cause skin rashes, herpes, skin problems, lack of skin elasticity, wrinkles, droopiness in the skin, muscle LOSS, heart problems, and a general disintegration of health: stomach problems, tooth DECAY, mouth sores, muscle tenderness in the face and eye areas, hearing loss, loss of vision.
Actually I am not sure about loss of hearing or vision, but I do know that severe lack of sleep causes PAIN to the ears and the eyes. And that pain could come back alot quicker, in people who have very little sleep than those who have normal sleep.
Well, sometimes if I'm super tired I'll start to dream while I'm awake - I'll catch little movies sneaking by, representing the things I'm thinking about. The funny thing I've come to think from this is that maybe we are dreaming all the time, we just don't realize it until our regular thinking shuts down.
i've been using temazepam to get three or four hours of sleep a night, taking concerta and drinking coffee to help me focus and stay awake during class. the other day while trying to concentrate on my prof and her lecture, the wall behind her started to melt or drip...
Bipolar is not a chemical imbalance. This has never been proven yet ppl accept this blindly and ignorantly.
When I am under stress and am sleep derprived. I get easily distracted, can't focus. I tend to have forced speech, thougts are racing and my mouth can't keep up
Thanks for the good preventitive medicine. Sleep is good stuff. I like 7-8 hrs and a 1/2 hr afternoon nap. When I have too many 5-6 hr nights in a row I get this wierd eye twitch... any thoughts on what this could be? RE: realnoid: lay off the meth dude.
damn...she should be "public disgrace" `s next victim... *gives her a tender pinch on her left cheek*

If you workout, try meditational workouts vs. strenous. If you drive fast, slow down and relax. Every moment you can relax adds up over the day.

I sleep very well.
I´m not refreshed in the morning, now I know why.
You wanted to know if there are others with hallucination, oh yes indeed I :)))
Since I have regula sleep and REM again I dream (and nice dreams ) and I feel very refreshed.
Additionally I will have more green T and Antioxidants, so yes I will be very fit soon again.
Thx, you are very charming and informative, brilliant vibes.

I'm no expert, but it besically wreaks havoc on your entire endrocine system. It can screw up GH output, the balance of all your neuro transmitters, your sympathetic/ para symapthetic nervous system balance, and so on and so forth.

Sleep deprivation for a night is a treatment for depression. Look it up. By not destroying serotonin to make Melatonin, the body gets a short term boost. I notice this all the time, I work at night.

The boody tries to get you up and running for the day, so some natural stimulants are prboably flowing at that moment.
witalian1 2 years ago

GrimReaper82 2 years ago
i once entered a competition with 2 other people to see who could stay awake the longest.
it was a fight against my body's will to sleep, a few days into it i was hallucinating big time, sensing lots of things that weren't there etc. not fun. we don't know who won because we all woke up and couldn't remember who fell asleep last.
i don't reccommend it. it sounds fun but it's not.

My little test was deffinately a wake up call for me and it helped me understand the importance of sleep.

People who have been diagnosed bipolar often talk about how they are sleeping very little during a period of mania. This video suggests that we might turn the presumed cause-effect relationship on its head, and say that the mania is due to reduced sleep. I found it insightful.

I have been getting to bed around 12 pm. and getting up at 7am, is 7 to 6 hours good enough sleep time for a 29 year old male?

thanx 4 the video. yeah i need to sleep more. i was eating supper...and then suddenly i see a car on fire.life has been a crazy drag for like 4 months.

Again, every person is different, we must understand that.

i have exam tomorrow, so meybe I should't go to sleep, becouse then brains will work better?

I need a sleep apnea test. I believe it caused me to have Night Terrors, sleep walking, night sweats, and now the newest addition to the list, Narcolepsy.
I just woke up from an episode... don't want to go back to sleep cause that = stop breathing... which triggers me to believe I will die tonight which make me not want to sleep at all... should be another productive day at work tomorrow, hope no one bugs me because I'm gonna be grumpy and snappy like a diebetic. Thats my life.

What amount of time not sleeping is considered insomnia??

I really enjoy these videos. I personally probably sleep too much, but heck, I enjoy sleep, and I can.

ha ha i didn't think the first one posted...never mind.... but to conclude, there has always been a loose association between mental disorders and creativity, as they say theres a fine line between insanity and genius. Thus, if sleep-deprevation is linked to mental illness could there be a link between it and creativity?
Jadabh2 3 years ago
Ok I have always had trouble sleeping. But as the person below me points out may this have a positive effect? Lets take some information. I personally feel as though I have the ability to be more creative when sleep deprived. Also your example of increased neuron activity, the theory of experiencing waking dreams without REM sleep and the link made between dreams as an expression the sub-conscious do you think it could, as said below have to ability to deliver an otherwise unattainable insight?
Jadabh2 3 years ago
Ok I have always had problems sleeping and I like to get into a routine. However I have always found a plus side of sleep deprivation is the ability to become more creative. Quite simply your mind is more lucid and thus experiences thoughts that wouldn't 'normally' occur. So with your example of increased neuron activity as well as the waking dreams you mention is do you think there could be a link between creativity and sleep deprivation?
Jadabh2 3 years ago

Yep, some of the hardest workers I've know have been Mexicans. Not lazy people at all.

One time I was up for 64 hours, I couldn't sleep so I was spending all of my sleep time pacing back and forth in my room.
BashIslam 4 years ago
There is a lot of truth to this. I have noticed that when I get enough sleep I feel 1000% better. Eating right combined w/ even the minimum level of exercise (helps sleep) is the key.

Whenever I haven't had at least eight hours of sleep on consecutive nights, I get tired, dysthymic, and easily agitated. Sleep is definitely an important component of a healthy lifestyle. Thanks for the great video. I haven't read the literature, but it seems reasonable that sleep deprivation can exacerbate mood disorders.

do you choose not to sleep because you take to jobs, or is it that you are unable to sleep ?
modelmark 4 years ago

THEONEJENDAV 4 years ago
First of all lack of sleep will cause severe weight LOSS. It can also cause skin rashes, herpes, skin problems, lack of skin elasticity, wrinkles, droopiness in the skin, muscle LOSS, heart problems, and a general disintegration of health: stomach problems, tooth DECAY, mouth sores, muscle tenderness in the face and eye areas, hearing loss, loss of vision.
Sublimey123 4 years ago
Actually I am not sure about loss of hearing or vision, but I do know that severe lack of sleep causes PAIN to the ears and the eyes. And that pain could come back alot quicker, in people who have very little sleep than those who have normal sleep.
Sublimey123 4 years ago
America doesn't torture! We question.

I was totally awake for 5 to 6 weeks w/o
feeling even slightly tired. I think the
record is 36 yrs in China with minimal
damage. I am still recovering w/o drugs
one year latter and it ain't easy. The
guy in China should bottle his DNA and
get rich. Imagine a world where you don't
have to sleep and function normally?
I give it another 2 generations.
