@trisgilmour It is Sint-Nicolas, not Santa Claus. Sint-Nicolas was a howly-one from Turkey around 300 a.c. He's howly because he gave money and shoes to the poor children. We still celebrate his existence at the 5h and 6th of december. He comes to The Netherlands and Belgium every year in November and he puts little presents in the shoes of children by night (big present at 5 dec)

Sint-Nicolas really existed, Santa is just a fairy tale

@psvloverke When the dutch founded New Amsterdam, (now New York) they brought their customs with them. Santa Claus is a derivation of Sinterklaas, as dollar is of "daalder" and boss from "baas". So in a way they are related but evolved differently
