I know some kids genuinely wanna help their families, but kids should be kids. Kids aren't made to deal with the emotional stress that adults can deal with. Parents need to be parents and not put all the stress on the kid.
this song reminds me of my 11 yr old son.. his daddy calls him on saturdays.. he is fixing to be deployed and is away from us right now.. my son says he has to make sure we are ok until his daddy comes home.. have you ever tried to change the mind of a child that is dead set on trying to make his daddy proud??? its almost impossible.
Dont be foolish people its not that their bad moms, it's that they kids want to do it. I had to make that choice when my sisters both left. I had to choose to be a kid over help around the house, i was just 12 and i cooked every meal did the dishes the landuary and cleaned the house, sometimes we choose to give up our childhood for the people we love, i chose to give mine up so my younger brother and sister had a chance to be a kid, so stop talking about our moms when you cant understand a kid
I'm a military child. My mom wanted us to have a childhood. But WE choosed to help around the house. So my mom wouldn't have to. My brother stepped up and was the man of the house because he wanted to. Not because he was told to. So for you to say "those mother", MY mother, needs to step up and be a mom. you dont know what, "us", kids think or why we do what we do. And dont waste your time trying to figure it out. You will NEVER understand what it is to be a military child!
@cooper2907 Good job for stepping up. I bet your mom is proud of you even though she wanted you to have a childhood. Thank you for all things that you do to help your mom out!
I think some of you people have it wrong, I don't think the mother is being a bad mom, and really that's not the point of the song. It says "he made the breakfast, he did the dishes so she wouldn't have to." not that she wouldn't. This is an amazing song, and I don't think we should be arguing over the mother.
It doesn't just work for overseas people...it pretty much fits perfectly for anyone with a parent in prison. My moms been locked up for 7 years and since then I've had to do the laundry, the dishes, all the cleaning....and so on. And once a month I would look forward to that one phone call...</3
I know my situation is a lil different but not much different im raising my lil brothers 5 yr old son and 2 yr old daughter because my brother is in prison and their mother is a homeless drug addict.im single i have no kids of my own and no boyfriend the onlything that means anything to me is my neice and nephew to me they are my babies even if i didnt give birth to them I LOVE THEM just the same but my nephew because of all that he has been thru still feels like he has to be the man in charge
and as much as i try to get him to loosen up and just be a kid he still tries to act like the man of the house my mom and dad help but the kids know my dad isnt their real dad they know the truth about their father and mother i want my nephew and neice to have a normal childhood and i want them to grow up to be respectable people but as for now they should be kids and i dont know what else to do how can i convince my nephew i am the adult and he is the child any advice?
This song hits to close to home. My husband is overseas and our Daughter is daddys helper till he gets home. I miss my husband so much. but VERY soon he'll be home! and the phone calls are what keep her going. we have 3 children, 31/2yrs, 2yrs, and 7mths! hes been gone since sept of last year! =[
i love this sad song!! it's not saying military wives are bad it's saying the little boy wants to help around the house. Depression when your husband is away (military, business, divorce or any other reason) can be really bad i've seen it...i'm sure he didn't mean any disrespect when he sang the song
She is very depressed and you can't just dig yourself out. Depression is an illness and people need to be more considerate to the ones that fall to it.
I love the song even though it is very sad. The truth is it isn't just the kids of military parents their wives or husbands too. Even siblings get i like that My brother and my dad and my brother in law are all marines. I mean my dad is retired but my brother and brother in law are both still in. It's tough on all the family members when their dad or brother or husband or whatever goes to war. So God bless our troops and everything you are doing over there for us
Feel bad for the military kids but us military wives work hard too....and songs like this just go and make us feel like we are doing a bad job! Where are the songs for the families who are strong and hold things together for their spouses? And this doesnt just apply to soldier men there are sailors and airmen and of course women in the military too!

@lovemeans88 the song isn't about all military families. in this song the mom can't cope with her husband being gone & the kid has to take over. I don't think that it's a statement about all military familes, just one specific (albeit fictional) family.
my lifes been like this since i was about 10, so my sisters who are older than me could have a life.. my parents were never around, so we grew up on our own.
now im 14 and my parents always tell me im not good enough.. that im a failure.. yet i still get up every morning to clean, and take care of their two younger kids.. just hoping one day they might say their proud of me.. and one day ill join the air force so i can prove them wrong
this song is soooo sad but it happens more often than not the kids want the parent to be proud of them and make things eisier for them because they no that they are hurting also they want their parents to know that everything is ok at home and that they are ok they want their parents to be happy and not to see them hurt cause that makes them hurt even more so they take this route but its soo sad to see a child grow up to fast

Ah, I love how we can all relate to this song. While I'm a female, I know what its like to be head of the house. Dad is gone trying to support the family, step mom is to drugged to get outta bed.... Yeah, know how that goes. But life goes on, and it gives you something to feel proud about later on in life.
its funny how alike this song is to my life for five years... and nowdays my friends ask me why i never smile and am silent all the time its hard to be 8 years old and have to go through that...
Chuck Wicks performed at the NC mountain state fair tonight and called me from a friend of mine's phone tellin me i suck for havin to work instead of bein at his concert.
This is ALSO my FAVORITE Country Music Song by Chuck Wick's! How this AMAZING Country Music Song ONLY Peaked at #27 on the Country Music Charts TOTALLY baffles me! i like this song so much the first time i heard it i thought of my bro and my dad we will always have that special place in our hearts for those in the war my dad and bro r in the army and my dad just died and its hard so for those who have a dad or some one dear to u overseas who died ni feel really bad for u
I can't watch this without getting teary-eyed. My dad is in the war and he's been deployed 3 times...it affected me so badly. I'm the oldest of 5 and I became the 2nd parent when hes gone. My boyfriend just joined the Air Force and I'm so proud of him for doing what he loves and protecting his great Nation. But my heart is breaking because I miss Daddy and I know I'm going to miss my man like crazy. Thank God for all the brave men and women--and all their strong families back at home.
This is an amazing song. I have lived almost everything in this song as an army brat. While it is tough when a loved one is deployed overseas, you know that you have to do your job because that's one less thing for them to worry about.
i love country music but we just moved out of range of my fave radio station. we were stopped at a gass station when we were moving and i heard this song and i freaked out cause it was a country song.turns out the station was satelite radio so it wasnt one i could get on my radio
My mom was always sick when I was growing up, and dad was always at work, so I was stuck taking care of my mom, doing the laundry, sweeping, vacuuming, and all that stuff until my grandma came to take over until my dad came home, and that's how it was, since I was 5 til I was 12, so this song kinda hits me hard. I didn't have any younger sibs at the time, but now I do, 4 actually and I couldn't imagine having all that and younger sibs to look after. true, I was left alone w/ my sis before, but..
especially if they have younger siblings and sometimes the kids have to be in charge instead of the adults because they're not thinking straight. its hard for a lot of kids to go through this and a lot of kids do i think it would have been even worse if my dad was with my mom and he was over in the war
there are alot of kids who have parents over there or even siblings. i love this song and i do cry everytime i hear it. its times now that im kinda glad i dont have a son that is trying to be the man of the house, b/c if i did he'd be in this same situation cuz of my boyfriend is going over to fight in the war. i do love this song.
i agree with horsesrule43096. there are a lot of childeren out there doing this today. and it is sad. i grew up with my sister being the "mom" of the house, and it was just like this. may god bless all of the childeren whom have done this. we thank you for being the "man" or "woman" for your household. every child needs both parents, even if the parents are their older siblings.thank you for the lyrics. i never realized what was going on in the "story".
OMG! This song is sooo sad! Ive never really listened to it and payed attention to the lyrics and now when i just did i almost started crying! its soo true! And the sad part is, how many kids at his age have to actually do this!thank you SOO much for uploading this video! i cant stop watching it! great job on the timing and lyrics btw!
see the thing is they don't have to do it.........they do it because they want there mom or dad that over seas to be proud of them and to let them know that everthing is ok at home

i agree with horsesrule43096. there are a lot of childeren out there doing this today. and it is sad. i grew up with my sister being the "mom" of the house, and it was just like this. may god bless all of the childeren whom have done this. we thank you for being the "man" or "woman" for your household. every child needs both parents, even if the parents are their older siblings.thank you for the lyrics. i never realized what was going on in the "story".
