  • God's abortion potion Numbers 5:27

Thought you all might enjoy that

  • The only mistake I have seen Mr. Minchin make is in this song...Now religions can claim GOD did it! See more proof of Dionysus ! Praise be to Zeus !

  • This song isnt supposed to be a slant against religion as much as it is to be a slant on creationist literalism and fundementalism. I'm christian and I love Tim Minchins religious songs lol he fucking rocks \m/ ^_^ \m/

  • Point is the Good Book has examples to justify any viewpoint on any subject depending on how you care to interprate it.

  • i had a thought. my belief is that god was created by man but jesus obviously was a real breathing person. and of course hes going to truly think hes the son of god if he grows up with everyone telling him he is. how many times has a baby momma said that jesus gave her the baby and said that there was no father. think about it

  • @samwisegingy hey brother you have shared many awesome links videos and comments for me and the rest of your friends on YouTube. If you dont know about this guy yet, then you are in for a huge surprise! enjoy!

  • This is a serious question, but do the words "bad, cos it's not good" etc. imply that religious people do not give sufficient evidence for their beliefs?

  • @JamieCurrant ...it's pretty clear that's what it says...

  • @JamieCurrant Yes :)

  • @JamieCurrant I can't be certain, but I think it's more a reference to the fact that the "good book" calls homosexuality bad without giving a very good justification for that judgement, and ultimately you're expected to accept its judgement on such things just because it says so, with no other reasons ultimately being necessary.

  • @JamieCurrant The entire song is about that.

  • the good book is a good book, cause it's good and it's a book

  • I'm not an atheist, but I still love this song, and even agree with the point that Tim's making.

Furthermore, your school is incredible for having that DVD.

  • 3:35. Yes. Just yes.

  • haha, I meant the little bit on the piano. I just recognised the tune from somewhere and wondered if anyone knew what is was from.

  • Does anyone know the name of the song he starts playing at about 4:04?

  • @james343434343434343 it's still the same song

  • Watch for how he plays the last note

  • tim + boot = sereious song

  • the american southern accent he uses for this is so spot-on wonderful.

  • @UNEification It's an Appalachian accent, actually. Though the two do have pretty similar connotations.

  • @IamBHM oh wow, thank you. I'm from PA... makes sense why it's so familiar now.

Then again, we call that area "Pennsyltucky"... lol it's just a misplaced part of the south

  • I unfortunately live in the south. Stuff like this is a real problem that I have to put up with everyday. Great song.

  • @DanteDouglas Sorry but when i read this i thought of a child being told that Santa isn't real and i started laughing which is a horrible thing to do but... :L

  • @athenecookiemonster But as he is being funny, hes also dead serious. This is realy happening in our world. Do not think i am attacking you personaly, im just responding to what i realy like to call ironi.

  • i know every single word to this song

  • so i drowned the little fuckers in the baaaaaath

  • If I were to devote years of practice and devotion to learning the piano, it would be for the sole purpose of playing this song for the talent show at Baptist summer camp and watching people's cheerful smiles melt into expressions of confusion in the audience.

  • @DanteDouglas that's not a very nice thing to say, i agree with you, but it's not a very nice thing to say

  • @rhinoroks Too true!!! People do say that ignorance is bliss... :)

  • @3:17 is what i always quote to people who believe the bible to be moral.

  • @austzombie Do you know the chapter and verse? This quote is brilliant for bible morality :)

  • Children (that misbehave) should've been stoned! That's what bible says. Seriously. I mean it literaly. It's next to 10 comandments. In a few page proximity.

  • @AnHeC Deuteronomy 21:18-21

  • @AnHeC he's not kidding - Genesis, chapter 6, verse 5 to 7: (translating from Hebrew)

and the lord saw that the land was filled with evil and men had only bad thought's, and the lord's heart was saddened and he said - i will swipe the man that i have created from the face of this earth, from man to beast, to insects to birds so i will feel comfort over what you have done.

the bible is a sick allegoric biased history book. if you want to base your life on a book it should be a pratchett

  • @ZivableToAll

I love you, I would quite happily worship Pratchett and now you.

  • @ZivableToAll

    Is my last comment weird?

  • @DKukiewicz

as in most things in life, this depends on whether you're a hot woman or not.. :)

  • @ZivableToAll YES! YOU ARE TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY RIGHT!! I mean, who the hell writes a book saying, according to some, that men are all good but they might be bad and if they are KILL THEM ALL!!! what kind of sicko is this guy?!!

  • @bigworldsmallperson Christian.

  • Comment removed

  • 9 people love the Goodbook cause its good, and its a book, and its good

  • AND its a great song!!^^

  • if any one has actually read the bible (or at least genmesis or so) its a really good fiction book theres murder and hate and such and such :D

  • @superduperteacupshoe Not really. There is no plot, just a bunch of jumbled stories. It constantly contradicts itself and can't keep the rules straight. Just in the gospels, there are 4 completely different stories that gives totally different accounts of Jesus. And then the main character dies and the story goes on to say that some day God will kill everybody and torture everybody he doesn't kill and he will fight with his mortal enemy yet this fight is left for the next book apparently.

  • And like most gifts you get, it was a book!

  • any kind of blind followship is just fucking stupid

  • I'm debating posting a tutorial of this..

  • Good song.

  • Seems like no one understands the word 'betray'.One meaning of betray is: Reveal the presence of; be evidence of : 'she drew a deep breath that betrayed her indignation.'

  • time minchin: wo thats fucked *trys again*

  • Oh dear, its a song... it supposed to take the micky out of religion. Please just take it on the chin and chill out dudes! If he wrote a song about overweight northerners with long hair I would take it on the chin and have a laugh... Life is way to short!

  • PEOPLE IT'S A BLOODY SONG!!!! Stop waving your poorly formed self- important arguments about religion in my face like I'm the social equivalent of a wank doll...

  • this song requires A boot XD :L

  • The only people who say it's a good book are ignorant of it's content... which is probably the majority of the christian society.

  • Genesis chapter 6 verses 5-7 is God deciding to start the great flood. Saying it endorses drowning kittens is a bit of a stretch but I guess I can see the parallels.

  • in other word Tim want you to find good in your heart, not doing what you think is good because it was written in Bible, Bible is too old to be an an example of good deeds today

  • i dont know why is there so many people aruging about true faith...and the best chruch and thing like those ... you dont even know if your allmithy GOD exists so shut up

  • @d4m4s74 You're right of course... Still, the sort of Christians that disregard the OT are at least quite often decent human beings. The people who really concentrate on the OT are the really dangerous ones.

  • I like to dat the only true christians are the members of the westboro Baptist church.

  • @d4m4s74 huh?

  • @d4m4s74 emo phillips?

  • @d4m4s74 But they have haircuts....the bible says no.

  • i think tim minchin and les claypool should have a long conversation

  • What song is he playing at 4:02 on the piano?

  • @zxxkcxxz The Good Book.

  • I don't know why but the line 'A violent toure de force' makes me laugh so hard.. :D

  • Tim is a BAMF in the piano.

  • Wow! Great keyboard player as well!

  • @VladtheEmailer

he is a pianist not a keyboard player.

a keyboard player stands behind a keyboard playing tinny sounding notes on an inferior interment. A pianist sits at the keys of a piano playing notes that range from high and tinny to deep and rich. There is a distinct and obvious difference. (sorry if that came across as unkind I am a pianist myself)

  • @Tamashi88 Haha, well, Chick Corea is a keyboard player, as well as a pianist, and his talent is well beyond that of many famous classical players. Personally, I would never refer to a 3,000 dollar Moog Synthesizer or 5,000 dollar Yamaha C-1 Piano as an "inferior interment." A piano is nothing more than levers, strings, wood, steel, etc., in short no less an "interment" than a synthesizer. The type of playing Tim is doing on the piano is stylistic of a rock keyboardist, not a Rubinstein.

  • Tim rocks ! We need more satire and humor in this world. Get rid of churches and build shelters. Get rid of jails and build schools ..

  • @TheDamneddirtyape Jails are a good thing. <3 What would you suggest we do with rapists, murders, and thieves? Unless....you mean to just kill them outright as soon as they're convicted which, hey...would save us a lot of time and money.

  • 9 people have been stoned to death!

*Remember, I'm doing this IRONICALLY so I'm not actually whoring myself out for affirmation from complete strangers.*

  • his is fuckin' awesome.....just that...

he reminds me of beetlejuice somehow....

    but i find him seeeeeexy...!!!!!!

  • So, Gods perfect... and all he does is perfect... and he made humans... therefore humans are perfect, therefore nothing we do can be bad.. Or god made a mistake. And if god made a mistake, who's to say he hasn't lied? And if god has lied, who's to say he's benevolent? And if god's not benevolent, then why would he help us? And if got won't help us, why would we worship him?

Course, that's not to say he exists or anything.

  • @Aengusmb God DID create perfect humans. But the part of being perfect is having free will. Fact that first human made a free choice and listened to Satan has nothing to do with God being perfect or not.

  • @LawNickAble: Let me try to summarize what you're saying, so that I'm sure I've got you right:

    1) Adam and Eve really existed (I assume a couple thousand years ago) and lived in the Garden of Eden where they were misled by a talking animal.

    2) They were perfect, but not really. "Perfect" maybe, but bad at decision making.

    3) God lost against Satan.

    4) God is perfect.

  • @Mattnesss 1) That's what me and pretty much most Christians believe in; 2) Human are perfect as a creation. Being misled was they're mistake and it has nothing to do with bein perfect or not. It's only a matter of free will; 3) a) No, he didn't, and even if you assume it was a failure, then keep in mind, that a couple thousand years later (or 2 thousand years from now) his son died and resurected, by which God won, as he defeated death (which was a power of Satan); 4) Yes, that's what I believe

  • @LawNickAble Perfection is an ideal, not a state. Nothing can ever be perfect, which is why everything is constantly changing and in motion. Including religious beliefs. Compare modern beliefs and practices with those of olden times. Even the ideal of perfection changes as people change. To believe that we, as humans, are perfect is simply ignorance, not belief. Whether or not a deity exists, or created us, is a moot point. /Nothing/ is perfect.

  • @LawNickAble Although, on the subject of belief, I'd like to clarify that I am in no way attacking yours. While I don't agree with them, I will defend to the death your right to have them, so long as they don't interfere with anyone else's rights. Which is, I believe, why many have so much disdain with religion. Most don't have any real problem with others believing in a 'god', but actually despise the acts that get carried out in his name; ranging from racist to sexist to homophobic, etc.

  • @smexijebus God bless you for nice attitude. Neither I have any problems with racialy or sexualy different people. They are what they are and thats great. And what I don't like is people who are openly attacking God worshipers talking like "people who have imaginary friends are stupid".. my answer is "Even more stupid is to fight against imaginary beings". If one doesn't believe in God then shall not think about Him and don't give a f*ck about those who do believe.

  • I studied theology. Should I be bothered that I am not offended by him? That there is no point he is not right (since I'm not English I didn't totaly understand the last bit, but anyways)? Or what d4m4s74 says?

  • he did not just pressed that key with his toe O_O fucking amazing xD

  • @madmax3789 I think you ment portray

anyway, where in the bible does it say "ignore everything in the old testament, I was just kidding" or something like that?

I know the christian population has the tendency to ignore anything they don't agree with in the bible, but "god" or jesus never said they could.

  • @d4m4s74 Yes, the New Testament does say that on several occasions. In Galatians Paul says it, and expresses such frustration with people who are teaching otherwise he says, regarding circumcision (part of the OT Law) "I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves". So the Bible is actually pretty strong and opinionated on this issue.

This is not picking and choosing. It is in the Bible, and its the most basic, first lesson of Christian theology.

  • @madmax3789 What does it matter? The entire book contradicts itself. Even if I discarded the Old Testament I could still dismiss the entire NT just by literary criticism alone and then that is not even taking into account the historical and archeological evidence that contradicts the gospel writers. In the end though the idea that a God would really on a book written in a language that dies and isn't even understood by the majority is absurd and Blasphemous if an omnipotent Deity was to exist.

  • @madmax3789 And yet, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for correction, for reproof, for instruction in righteousness...." 2 Timothy 3:16, KJV.

One wonders how a book that claims all of itself to be divinely inspired and useful for guiding life can simultaneously claim that parts of it are separate and from a bygone time and not quite so binding. At this point, the New Testament is dividing itself on the matter just by separate epistles.

  • @madmax3789 And you know who wrote the epistles to Timothy? Paul.

Say, wasn't Paul the guy you were citing in support of your view? Hm. Thank God, verily, that it doesn't contradict itself ever. If we could accept that it was contradictory, that would be a real pickle.

  • @d4m4s74

He means betray, as it's a facet of your argument that you'd rather hide but are generally unable to (therefore you "betray" your attempts to hide your ignorance). "Portray" would be clunky and its meaning would be better serviced by "evince".

You might want to take a look at the 2/3 of the New Testament that clarify the New Covenant before you make sweeping statements about what the "christian population" (you mean the church right?) are entitled to do. It's all there bro.

  • @Wymmerdann can i make a small point one to some guy with an oppinion don't get het up just listen to the music. its funny and slightly oppinionated.

  • @d4m4s74

People like you make me sick. What you're talking about is called "Selectism" and yes the vast majority of the Christian population DOES it, but those aren't the true Christians. There are true Christians out here who really do try to follow what the bible says and even if we don't always, Humans aren't perfect. Yes, religion has it's defects, but some people just don't want to look up and see something greater.

  • @littleluman333 So what you're saying is that you TRY to follow OT law.

    That's not much better

    I think I'd prefer selectism....

  • @d4m4s74 Well I think if you were to take that Jesus guys words seriously about all that love thy neighbour and don't cast the first stone and shit... Than you pretty much are forced to completely disregard the entire old testament. There was a reason the established jewish priest wanted him gone. Jesus was a rebel fighting the man: aka his father and his crazy rules that were proving outdated and obsolete in the globalizing society that was the Roman Empire.

  • @d4m4s74 Praps I'm not getting your point... and it doesn't matter. I'm not religious in any persuasion. BUt I have to say, the new testament, and Christianity in general, is a wholesale repudiation of the "Old Testament" (a phrase that Jews find offensive). Jesus permitted the disciples to disobey the old sabbath laws, repudiated Hammurabi's law (eye for eye) and so on. There is no such thing as "Judeo-Christian" - some religious effer's made that up for political expediency I do believe.

  • @madmax3789

If we ignore the Old Testament then no Noah, Ten Commandments, Creationism, or homosexuality being an abomination.

  • @jahs389 That's a lie though, the New Testament also states that homosexuality is wrong and actually declares that if you're a homosexual you will still go to hell...nice and friendly like...

  • @d4m4s74 You're sort of right. It actually states in the New Testament that ALL scripture is the word of God: "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." 2 Timothy 3:16-17 Once again, Christians don't know what the hell they're talking about - cherry pickers, all of them. Every.Single.One.

  • @d4m4s74 Acctually, yes he did. Not literally of course, but there are a lot of famous "quotes" of Jesus along the lines "The elder told you, but I tell you...", with this changing laws of the OT. This in fact is the difference between Christians and Jews ;)

  • @QemeH Christianity was just a sect of Judaism til converts didn't want to be circumcised and emperor Constantine sympathised with them and suddenly decreed that Christianity gets to be a separate religion. So really, that's the difference. One way you get circumcised, and the other you don't, but otherwise, just another sect of Judaism.

  • @ValkyriePrincessHex This depends on how you look at it. :) The main spiritual/religious difference ist about Jesus (and therefore the NT), because Jews see him as just one (and not the most important) of gods prophets, whereas Christians say him to be their savior and son of god. You can see, why his words are taken differently in both groups ;) Of course there are procedural differences as well, but I hardly doubt this was the reason for a split.

  • @ValkyriePrincessHex So in short, christians are complete pricks.

  • @QemeH its amazing how quickly people like you say "it was all the jews fault!" but you still cling to hating gays though I cant find anything by Jesus ever stating that you should or any other hate you want justified.

  • @Ortanith What? You totally misunderstood my intention. I never said (or ment) that it was "the Jews fault". I just stated the fact, that the main difference between Jews and Christians is the different believe in Jesus (prophet vs son of god), without expressing my opinion whichone is correct (or wheather ther IS a correct version to this). And I don't know, why you think I hate gays. I never said this. I just anwered to the claim, god never changed "his" OT, because (in Christian view) he did.

  • @d4m4s74 Agreed, and the Old Testament is not even a Christian book...It is the book of the Jewish faith.

  • @xapthania actually the OT is necessary for the christian faith-- otherwise what prophecies would jesus be fulfilling? he'd just be some nondescript holy man.

  • @jeaumiew I know that it is...but my point is that the Old Testament in of itself, is not a christian text. It was not written by any Christian theological or historical authority. The life of Jesus and as such the New Testament, is built upon the Jewish tradition - which is what the Old Testament is from.

  • @xapthania Guess what, Jesus was a Jew! so what does that make christianity?

  • @lithrininit I know this. And, umm...hypocritical, misinterpreted, self-righteous, arrogant, and dangerous.

  • @d4m4s74 I agree with you, but he means betray. Betray as in 'give away'.

  • @d4m4s74 but but... women shouldnt be allowed to come out when they're on their period... and pigs are bad... amIright? :p

  • @d4m4s74 the WBC is a cult of hateful people who dont have any sense. They arnt letting their kids reproduce because they dislike the world. Hopefully they die off >.>

  • Mathew 5: 17 Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven...... etc ad nauseum

  • @nigelgomm you missed the point. It's a book!

  • @madmax3789 you kinda miss the point of the song. It attacks the whole divine command crap instead of just christianity crap or OT crap.

  • @TheAbyrwalg Yeah that wasnt an overall critique of a song, just a side mention of a pet peeve of mine thats common in our society and present in the song. I thought it was worth mentioning since a lot of people seem kind of confused on that point.

  • @madmax3789 If you can ignore the Old Testament and not take it too seriously, how about you start not taking Genesis too seriously?

  • @thirdrider Theres a difference between saying that I ignore it and dont take it seriously (which is false) and saying that its position in Christian theology is such that we are not bound by its Law. But your question is moot, because I am an evolutionist.

  • 'con'td. "19 Whoever, therefore, breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever shall do and teach them, this person shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will in no way enter into the kingdom of heaven.”

What part did Tim get wrong?

  • @madmax3789 Since christianity has around 38.000 denominations you should recognize that you don't speak of christianity as a whole. A single christianity doesn't exist.

  • @madmax3789 You are completely right. Everybody knows that one of the basic tenants of Christianity is that if you don't like something, then you can ignore it and it ceases to be relevant.

  • @ZactheMadMan Sorry, not what I said. If you want to criticize Christianity, by all means do so, but try and do it with legitimate criticisms. There is nothing contradictory about our not being held by OT Law, its a basic tenant of Christianity that has been held unchanged in mainstream Christianity for 2000 years.

  • @madmax3789 yeah maybe but it's still funny so who cares

  • @madmax3789

You have written a double negative "betray a basic misunderstanding". You should also define "OT" - because most people have no idea what you are talking about.

  • @madmax3789 Okay. Jesus scolded parents for not stoning their child to death for being disobedient. Nice guy. I like Appolonius of Tyanna better though. He was a prophet at the time of Jesus who also performed miracles such as walking through walls and such. He was also crucified by the Roman government for claiming to be the son of the Hebrew God then was claimed to have ascended to heaven.

  • @JAB63096 Did you hear about Horus? Egyptian god, born from a virgin mother, baptised in a river, was put to death for claiming to be a god, performed miracles such as: walking on water, turning water into wine, curing the sick and bringing someone back from the dead. After he was put to death, the women went to his grave three days later and discovered Horus, the saviour of man kind had come back to life. Oh, and he has 12 apostles.

  • @DMAN123223 ya, Jesus was NOTHING special by a long shot. If there were no text limit I would have added in my previous post that Appolonius was also born of a virgin and his grave was found empty. Clearly the only answer is that God brought them up to heaven and implanted them inside women. It's not like there were grave robbers and lying, cheating whores.

  • @DMAN123223 Bullshit. Self-educated Egyptologist Gerald Massey started this rumor with little to no evidence and is widely dismissed by most contemporary Egyptologists. I believe it's quite possible Horus might be one of several characters Jesus is based off of, but the parallels aren't all there. I'm calling you on this because as a whole we atheists should be skeptics first. If we just repeat fallacious arguments without following up on them, we're no better than religious pseudo-scientists.

  • @ShrodingerFu I understand that I need to be sceptical, but my references for this are: Bill Maher's religulous which details it and an essay by B.A. Robinson who uses several footnotes including the book of the dead itself.

  • @DMAN123223 Religulous is a fun movie that points out just how little the common christian knows about their own religion. However, it's view on the same level as Zeitgeist. The arguments found within them are often wrong or easily argued with just a little education. They are great tools for making us better skeptics if we follow up on them. But they also serve to hinder the atheist movement, when it's believed that we are atheist because of these weak arguments.

  • @DMAN123223 As for using references from the book of death itself, it is much like other existing scripture today. A person can interpret parts of it to fit a preconceived conclusion. It's no different than the Muslims who claim that the Koran depicted evolution because it says that all creatures arose from the sea while ignoring parts that contradict it.

  • @madmax3789 I think that attacking OT law is justified by the thousands of teenagers committing suicide because they have read signs saying "GOD HATES FAGS"

  • @madmax3789 Dont worry, Revelations is NT, and that gives us plenty of material to work with!

  • This song is fantastic, I want the score for it so I can play it toooo :D

  • And Dumbledore's a poofter. XDDD

  • Now if only it was a good book, instead of a doctrine of hate, ignorance and delusion, I wouldn't have a problem.

  • @MrAudiovideodisco I am a athiest but I have to admit that Jesus was a good man but the man of politics hated hin and religious leaders just used him

  • Comment removed

  • @IWillEatYourInsanity I'm an atheist and believe in Jesus too. God was created by people, Jesus was religious and used the idea of every being the Son of God to explain that he was also the Son of God. People misinterpreted it. He had some good ideas though. :')

  • @MrAudiovideodisco People have made it a doctrine of hate, ignorance and delusion... If religion left it alone it would be an amazing book showing how people 2000 years ago tried to understand the universe and scientific events... But the religious nuts have spoilt it.

  • What does he say at 4:34?

  • its sad because alot of people still live their lives by this book ;(

  • @hbanaan

Well at least it's a good book and not a bad book, right? ;D

  • And that dumbledore's a poofter..

  • Amazing how he does the last note with foot

  • Dude where do you go to school? Because that's an awesome school

  • =D

  • 4.33, God's like 'fuck you'

  • This song could be the opening number to 'Westboro Baptist Church: The Musical!'

  • 8 People don't have such a good book....

  • Your school had this in thier library!!! wow, cool school

  • Tim is flat out brilliant. Grade A satire

  • Ahaha, I love his *subtle* southern American accent.

  • haha dont you think at 4:36 that tim reminds you of keath lemon off celeb juice :)

  • @rikkikikiki technically you should kill yourself for saying that....but ill let you off the hook cause im nice ^_^

  • lol

  • Fuck, I love boobs though.

  • I just heard it the 2nd time and NOW i understood the lyrics.. I only say: Fuck yes... I read the good book 3 times and it's pretty right what he is telling :D

    Pretty fucking awesome!

6 people didn't understand the lyrics and think the good book is bad :)

  • I like the "Southern" accent Tim.

Much love from a Southern boy that has read more than one book

  • Yes! I have been saying for quite a while that I can make up a book completely and hand it to someone and say that if they don't follow it they will burn. I can say whatever I like and they have to! Certain agony!

Agnostic, by the way. No fundies should attack me :D

  • "Swing your daughter by the hand, but if she gets raped by a man and then refuses to marry him, STONE HER TO DEATH"

  • @EbonyFaery

Does anyone know what part of "scripture" he is referring to with this stoning of the rape victim reference?

  • @BudsMoKing Its in deuteronomy 22.

  • and that dumbledores a poofter and thats bad becuase its not good

    lol what a legend x
