  • I was at many of these shows-I was attending college at VCU back when it was an art school. The Back Door was tiny. It was also where musicians in national acts dropped by for a beer passing through town. I met Paul Rodgers, Neil Smith from Alice Cooper, and Sam Andrew from Big Brother there.

  • I hear similiarites to Lost In Flood. After 2 minutes in.

  • I don't blame Bruce's father for telling him to get a haircut! Just kidding -- thank you for posting -- these are incredible songs and pics.

  • I might (not sure) still have some tapes from when Bruce played at the Persian Room on, I think, 4 Sunday afternoons and it was broadcast on WGOE Radio.

  • @KittyWhisperer wow, WGOE and The Persian Room-brings back fond memories.

  • I used to go to the Back Door to hear Bruce play - the door charge was 50 cents; the experience: Priceless!

Southside Johnny got the name "Southside" in Richmond....long story. The only other band member that I really remember is Gary - because of his long beautiful straight black hair (longer than in most of the pics in this vid).

It was a fun time and a great memories.

  • david sancious the keyboard player could play guitar better then bruce in his sleep..anyone who has ever seen david play can't argue

  • Sancious is an incredible musician. Being an incredible musician is not, however, the be all and end all, as Sancious's post-Bruce albums attest to.

  • Ever wished you could have been at this show? Love all of the tracks from the Back Door. Also wished the tickets still only cost $2. Thanks.

  • Bruce Springsteen Band is great, but Steel Mill even better. Check out the info of this video. There is a link to Steel Mill - Wind And The Rain (live)

It was too long for YouTube when i made it.... :(

  • Agreed, Steel Mill was an incredible band to see live! Too bad most of the boots do not do them justice. Bruce was actually killer on guitar. I hear some Steve Van Zandt guitar on this track - in the beginning. I never cared for Steve's guitar sound though.

    - check out Steel Mill to get just a taste of Bruce on guitar.

  • I love its guitar solo!! specially the part from 5:00 to 5:50

  • Thanks this is great!

  • I am so sure that the real hardcore fans like this tuff.

This shows the talent he has. I love his very early period and the steel mill band. I wonder what could be rock these days with the Steel mill band...but it dosnt metter, Bruce is there!

  • I love this too. It's like there are so many different styles through the years. I can listen to this all day

  • Excellent Excellent Excellent

  • THAT was fucking STUNNING. I got chills up my back as I type this.

    Wow.

I only heard the Hammond and London demo versions, never realized there was a full-band version. Damn! Smoking!

That just blew my mind, thanks for posting!

  • sounds a bit like sothside johnny.

  • A big genius

  • I love that Bruce notes the keyboard player,David Sancious. He's key in the early development of Springsteen in that he added a jazz influence to the band. He played on the best Springsteen album, The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle. I saw Bruce at the then called Carlton Theatre now called the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank NJ in Oct. 1975. I still consider it one of the best concerts I ever saw.

  • @spewking1

they used to practice at Sancious' home on E Street in Belmar, a block in from F St aka Main St, hence the E Street Band. i drove by there last summer, and it dead-ends into a condo complex now.

  • did bruce write this?

  • Damn, Bruce could rip on the guitar in those days. I liked how he played Gibson's too.

  • Bruce's previous band Steel Mill was absolutely phenomenal and could have been his vehicle to stardom as much as his E Street era was. It's too bad only bad quality live cuts and a couple of cheesy studio takes survive. Although his later music is fantastic, Bruce's guitar playing and total energy onstage never again reached the Steel Mill levels and total 'goose bump' highs of those concerts. (sounds like Stevie solos first on this cut)

  • Actually there is plenty of excellent quality Steel Mill material available on bootleg world. I might make a few Steel Mill slideshows, but i need more quality photos. :)

  • Yep, I have a few of those boots plus some audio I recorded on a small cassette player myself. I had planned to shoot some video but never followed through.....damn! Some boots sound pretty good but not really what I consider great, still some distortion and imbalance. Not many really excellent photos that I know of, other than a friend who took some great shots of the last concert at the Upstage....haven't seen him in quite some time..maybe they'll resurface somewhere.

  • wonderful...i was just reading a book about the beginning of the boss...and i was just reading about that!!thanks!

    grat guitarist and performance

    rob

  • This is Great. Thanks
