  • I would just stay with you and love you. I would hold you at night and dance with you in the day. And I would be happy.

  • We watched this in my class period about Poetry(: The whole point is this that people just take and take and take til its gone. Just like the mummy sucking the life out of her.

  • creepy as hell

  • Loves**, not ones that he lives... oops

  • I think his curse is that he has to live forever and the ones that he lives die away

  • haha he dances funny xD

  • Addiction

  • I listen to this over and over and over and over again,

    And sometimes I Cry........

  • I listened to the song over and over...loved the story, then found this amazing, well-made video. Perfect. Absolutely perfect.

  • Beautifully done.

  • Tuggs on your heart strings (pardon the pun).

  • She asks if he's cursed... he says he is cured... she cured him af his curse and took it without knowing it... sad story imo, but still beautifull <3

  • Check out the tomb @ 0:31 and then at the woman's hair @ 2:36. The tomb was meant for her and the mummy knew it from the start.

  • @Liiivemau5 Missed it the first time. You are so right! Good catch!

  • omfg that was awesome good job man

  • i have to say cu-dose to this person for getting the story and what josh's song is about.

  • Her trumpet solo is my favorite part.

  • @CocamoJoe haha mines as well!!!!!

  • poetic, yes.. but also quite ridiculous

  • its just "one of those songs" type of songs if you know what i mean

its hard to describe what i mean but i'll give it a go

its kind of like when you fell something that makes your hair stand on end

  • "She's just one more rag he's dragging behind him." Wow.

  • I thought this was a love story. But...having read the lyrics several times...it isn't. He's a predator. He kills her - he gains strength as she fades, and he knows it, which is why he doesn't answer her straight when she asks if he is cursed. That's not love! Knowingly hurting someone, for your own benefit, sucking away their life in the name of love. That isn't love. I'm so sad this isn't actually a love story - it's a predator and his victim, who always believed in him. It's so sad.

  • @katzamboni, The song is named, "The Curse," Perhaps you haven't heard (or read) of any fables about curses put on tombs (or other objects), but this story is about, " the curse".. he died from the curse, and because she found the tomb and opened it, the curse became hers. Listen again, it's still a beautiful story, and they do fall in love, but they also exchange places, and he knows the fate that is waiting for her.

  • @katzamboni

I thought his curse was not only is he draining her, but he is doomed to be in love with her. He's killing her, and there's nothing he can do to save her. It's tragic. He lives, but his lover dies. Then she will repeat the cycle, falling in love with whomever opens her tomb only to have them die.

  • went to see josh earlier in vicar street and when he sang this i cried an amazing song..it really is perfection!

  • Such a sad song.

  • 10 people need to be fucking cursed~

  • i love it omg...

  • This is beautiful. I didn't expect necrophilia to be so adorable.

  • @gingerfu91 You just didn't get it. It's all a metaphor. Coming back to life after something painful. At least you said it was beautiful...it is...beyond words.

  • perfect song for valentines day

  • Amazing. It was so beautiful.

  • awesome.

  • Absolutely beautiful.

  • 5 Stars

  • La perfection absolue !!!!!!!

  • Simple... Effective... And AMAZING.......

  • This is one of the most perfect songs I have ever heard.

  • thanks to Bravo, I was introduced to this magical collaboration. It reaches inside, and pulls on the heartstrings, and leaves me feeling very touched. thank you so much for doing what you do.

  • I have never heard of Josh Ritter until a few days ago, and have never listened to his music until I saw this video on Bravo. I like the song and the video. I will surely check out more of his works.

  • Last night I went to a Josh Ritter's show and it was beautiful--full of energy and passion for what he does. I didn't know much of his music before last night and this was definitely one of my favorite songs. Reminds me of the story of genuine love told in Jewel's "Painters".

  • what all meanings of word curse? please some one and the uses of it! can I say, Jon curses so much, and does it mean he swears so much or he damns so much. Thanks in advance.

  • @HeresSeem ...Here they mean he's damned (cursed) ... whoever he get's close to or becomes close with dies.

There are other meanings you can get from this too ... She was cursed or damned from the moment she opened his coffin and touched him.

  • @darrellism he cant age idiot... thats his curse

  • @niggerschlong Nice name Einstein .. I think you're thinking of vampires.

If you look at the explanation I gave @HereSeem,He was asking if Curse meant he swears a lot or if he's damned. I was giving him an example. There's many meanings you can get from this video but he basically drains life.

His heart starts beating again after she enters his tomb.

Look up about the mummy excavations in the early 1900's most who opened the tombs died soon after by sickness or accident, they were cursed.

  • @niggerschlong ...as far as calling others idiots ...your login says it all.

  • I saw this video on BRAVO TV the other day and fell in love with the puppeteering and music.

  • Awesome ...

  • Just heard an interview with Josh in Canada (via the front loader dot com) and heard that LIAM put this video together. Had to come back and watch it again. BRILLIANT piece of work! BRILLIANT song!

  • Speechless. Thank you Gian for getting us on to this. Thank you Josh for writing this gorgeous song and thank you Liam Hurley for touching my heart.

  • can't stop watching!

  • this song was shown in my choir and I think it is catchy but not number 1 material

  • It's amazing how I found myself imagining expressions on their faces.

  • Melancholy masterpiece... hauntingly beautiful; the puppetry is magical

  • Very touching and very beautiful work

  • Just heard a quick interview with Ritter on CBC and the interviewer said to go to youtube right meow so I did. I think everyone who watches this wishes she turns into a mummy and comes back to him.

  • @Toomnyusernae

I know, Jian always has great guests, this was among the best in a while

  • beautiful song and story.

  • Honestly, it seemed kind of cheesy to me. Why go so literal with it?

  • @jonwattsmusic Honestly, why not go literal? it's amazing how something so unrealistic can be so beautiful.

  • @LadySingBlues10 I think it takes some of the power away from the poetry. There's a lot more going on there than the literal story and keeping the visuals strictly to the to the story is limiting.

  • Honestly? It seemed kind of cheesy to me. Why go so literal with the story?

  • Stunning. I hope Josh Ritter has seen this. It's amazing how two artists have met vicariously to create something so beautiful.

  • @bobjfs He commisioned the artist to make this for the song

  • oh mein gott..i'm crying..IMPOSSIBLE .. ! i love this video...

  • wow, maybe probably as good as joe pug

  • @ajjajack I'ma beat you up. Ain't no one better then Josh Ritter!!!!

  • And I have to say - though I've never heard Mr. Hurley play the drums - if he is as good at the kit as he is with the puppets, well...damn! Most gifted, and thanks for the gift (of this video)

  • Once again, Mr. Ritter moves and impresses me. My hat's off. Wow.

  • Once again, Mr. Ritter moves and impresses me. My hat's off. Wow.

  • New to this song, and Josh's work in general (love Change Of Time), but this video - and the song - beautiful and brilliant.

  • PazContigo said it best when art meets art.

  • this is sooo good

  • @Tomahawk1505 yeah, id agree

  • are you cursed? i think i've been cured.

  • Makes me want to dance with my wife.

  • 5 people have 0% taste in music/art and are also secretly scared of mummy's.

  • Beautiful song, beautiful video:

    Thank you.

  • One of my favourite artists of recent years, last night I finally had the privilege of seeing him in concert. One of the best gigs I've ever seen, for anyone who appreciates songwriting his new album is well worth checking out...

  • I love the ending where the mummy/pharoah on the coffin looks like the old woman. Cane, gray streaks and all! Beautiful song.

  • If anyone can make necrophilia sound good, its Josh Ritter.

  • Most brilliant comment. Thanks, now I have giggles I can't get rid of.

  • This sort of breaks my heart

  • i love the little led in mummys heart...funny and soul touching..:)

  • What a wonderful video! My daughter loves the song and this makes it even more special. I hope you can get more exposure for this, everybody should see it!

  • I hate people, I hate people who try, but this is fantastic, really beauiful. Literal, yes, but something simply, innocent and fantastically belonging. Song. video. Ritter. Life. Death.

  • I hate people, I hate people who try, but this is fantastic, really beauiful. Literal, yes, but something simply, innocent and fantastically belonging. Song. video. Ritter. Life. Death.

  • mmmmmmmm......i love it

  • The first :30 are pure genius, the rest of the video is curiously cold and childish...

  • Perfect and creepy and beautiful and remarkable and all the words in between!

  • Josh Ritter has a poetic way of writing lyrics and I suppose Liam Hurley has a poetic style of bringing them to life. If the "stars" thing was still going, I'd give it five...but all I can do now is fav it and click in massively understated "like" button.

  • @Uzzie101 Im with you on that one, this is my first time to hear him, amazing.

  • isnt it weird how the puppets are inaniment objects but the song brings them to life as real people

  • I loved the song but didn't really understand it until now, after seeing this video - how sad, beautiful but sad.

  • @primetimesuspect ...to the wasted suspect of primetime: ...better to be a weirdo than a "normal" sheep or lemming like you ...

  • Absolutely stunning. I love the song, but this video really puts it over the top. Thank you.

  • why is love so sad?

  • Beautiful video. So touching.

  • wow i definitely never fully got this song until seeing your video! <3 love it.

  • That was such an awesome video, spectacular, perfect for the song! You made me choke up and my wife cry! The entire new album So Runs The World Away is so good. Thank you for doing what you do!

  • What's amazing is that you fall in love with the puppets because of the strings attached, not in spite of them.

  • @asburytheo --well put.

  • Wow- incredible! :D

  • Great puppetry...

  • Pure win

  • heart warming and heart breaking--I watch and listen over and over for both impacts

  • i don't get it

  • I can't believe someone "disliked" this.

  • absolutely gorgeous

  • liam you are amazing!

  • this will forever make me think of Emily.

  • @lowdirt this will forever make me think of Angela. from the symptoms, i'm either regressing into a deadly case of smallpox, or love sickness. curse.

  • His curse is hes absorbing here life.

  • inspiring.

    all i can say.

  • a-mazing.

  • This song is so sad but so beautiful

  • Very impressive. Nice Work

  • So... SAD! I love it though...

  • You are great!

  • Oh my God! This touched my soul inside and out. This is the most beautiful video and song ever. I adore the way the video fits absolutely perfectly with the song. Most videos today have nothing to do with what the person is singing about. Tears filled my eyes and made me realize that I have the most romantic/perfect boyfriend in the world.

  • This is one of the most intriguing films I've seen. Love the story the music the voice...

  • wow wow tears and smiles ,simply beautiful

  • you are a silly goose if you ever pass up a chance to see Josh live, you will never see a more entertaining, interactive show! I saw him on 5-13 in Atlanta and had the chance to meet him and chat with him for about 10 mins. they come no better than Josh (and Josh hugs are the best hugs on earth)....Dawn Landes, his wife, was with him and she is also a fantastic artist in her own right.

  • @sugerkat I agree! Josh Ritter gave me the best hug I've ever gotten! :) :)

  • @mrschrisdaughtry find me on twitter under sugerkat or tracy seago ...find me on facebook under tracy seago van osdell...i have tons of pics from that show (and of my delicious Josh hugs.) i literally was leaning my camerbag on Josh's guitar amp.i was so close! also, i have 8 videos posted here from that show. look for josh on 5/13/2010, atlanta, variety playhouse @ sugerkat.

  • I adore this song, and the video just makes it even better. Well done!

  • It's so sad. And so beautiful. Thank god things like this exist in this cruel foolish world.

  • Fucking beautiful

  • Love it! She reminds me of Angelica Huston. Everything about it was beautiful!

  • bellissimo

  • Wow... who knew? Drummer and puppeteer! Liam has many talents. I loved the song the first time I heard it... but paired with the video it is breath-taking! Josh and the Royal City Band never cease to amaze me.

  • Whoa.

How much more hauntingly beautiful could this piece get?

  • I agree with PazContigo - When art meets art! The song is so beautiful, I love the music, lyrics etc everything. The puppetry and the video is so wonderful. So delightful to watch and listen.

  • Truly amazing. The most gripping song I've ever heard. Thank you, Josh.

  • This is so touching. when the mummy's eyes gleam at the end it alwasy makes me tear up for some reason.

  • I heard it on NPR and loved the feeling of it, indeed, it is a touching story and marvelous melody! wonderful work!

  • i've cried to many times and each time it touches me

  • @slaytonj5 me to

  • simply sublime.....stunning work :o)

  • Absolutely amazing. He is such a great story teller, this is sad.

  • what a way to make a video to fit a song. well done to all concerned.

  • Wow Wow Wow.. Liam Hurley you talented man

  • this is very deep and sad too. at first you sort of shudder seeing her with him, then think it's cute, and then you realize she's turning into a mummy herself. Time passes for us all =( reminds me of The Giving Tree

  • That was awesome great job filming Liam!

  • Beautiful video :) Love the incorporation of the trumpet into the storyline.
