  • don't do behind the neck it's terrible for rotator cuff

  • you are a very strong fellow

  • Very impressive. Keep it up!

  • its not a rep if you only do 1.

  • good shit man, i'm tired of seeing people pressing from behind the neck. Pressing to the front is way more challenging.

  • @ntjnssntjnss1

Ha, ha...thanks for the comment. Good to hear you are progressing...

  • Good job bro!

  • 225 behind the neck is pretty impresive!

  • @7oh2dodgerblue

    Thanks again - much appreciated.

  • Good job i do 245x8 but I weigh 215-220 never maxed out good job thouh.. keep up the good work

  • @7oh2dodgerblue

    Thanks for the comments.

  • My OHP is horrible and i want to focus on it. Would i get more results doing military press from a dead stop off rack or should i do the negative from lockout?

  • @soybean70

I would say to work on both...they both have their advantages...starting from the top requires the use of your stretch reflex, while the pin press would be better for building up static strength.

  • 225lb behind the neck is sick! ...... helluva job

  • @mudcat06

    Thanks bro - much appreciated.

  • i love this lift.. keep up the good work!

  • @raybradbury3

    Thanks bro - much appreciated.

  • impressive, do u have a good diet? if so what?

  • @dtv4848

Thanks bro - diet is pretty high in protein at the moment to keep the strength gains coming.

  • good lift! and cool weight set up in the garage. do u ever have shoulder pain doing this? rotator cuff/front delt

  • @lurchman76

Thanks bro - my best so far is 265 lbs using a 90 degree bench. Nope...no shoulder problems yet....knock on wood though...

    Thanks for the comments.

  • @BRETZERR of course, gotta give credit where credit is due. you mind checking out my vid and commenting? its bench video from my last meet in march. it would be much appreciated!

  • Now you can even lift the fat girls over your head at the beach. Man you are so strong! I am your same weight and build yet I only can put up half that weight. wow.

  • Ha, ha....no plans to lift any fat girls any time soon...but thanks!

    I appreciate the postive comments!

  • Ha, ha...thanks man.

  • Pretty strong condiering you don't do them very often! Ya, BTN presses can be very hard on the shoulders especially if you go down all the way. But I have found that if you actually just go a little passed your head, the pain isn't nearly as bad.

  • Thanks Nate. Yeah, I am not a fan of BTN presses...I don't feel any pain when doing it, but I think if I did this exercise consistently the probability of injury goes through the roof. Military presses accomplish the same thing and they are much safer...no real need to do the BTN press. I just wanted to see how hard 2 plates was...

  • Wow, all of your maximum reps are all so intense, usually people have bad form, or guess wrong, but you get it right on the button, like a true 1 rep max. Hope you get another PR...... Oh and randy getting somebody else to weigh for you doesn't count! lol

  • Yeah, I am pretty good at guessing...either that, or I just make every max look hard!

  • Hey, way to push through on the PR.

  • Thanks man...I appreciate that.

  • your triceps are insanely strong, ive noticed on all your lifts as soon as you get 3/4 the way up the lift the bar speed increases 10 fold. youve got to enter some comps some time, in a bench shirt you would get at least 415! and im guessing you can deadlift 550-575 which are great numbers at 205..

  • Thanks man...yeah, the lock-out is definitely easy...

Maybe one day I'll look at competing, but for now I am just having fun. I probably wouldn't even consider it until I am benching 400 lbs raw consistently, squating 500 lbs, and deadlifting 600 lbs.

  • Thanks Dario. Hopefully 250 lbs next time out on the Front Press...

  • very strong Randy, great job, you just keep amazing me with your strong lifting

  • Dam I want this bench....nicely done as always BRO!

  • Thanks...

  • man that 245 killed you haha.. you prolly wouldve gotten it easier if you didnt just do 225 and 235.. you might be able to get 250.. 5 stars!

  • Agreed bro...I think I will try 250 lbs next time out. I never really do shoulder presses, so these were a bit awkward at first (as you can see on my 2 plates - the reps were stalled, etc).

    Thanks...

  • That lockout always looks so easy for you once you get through the sticking point. 5 stars as always randy. good work.

  • Thanks man...yeah, my lockout tends to be quite strong. There's nothing better than hitting the point in the movement where I just have to lock it out.

  • I think you should receive the "unstoppable effort" award. You consistently grind out lifts that most others would give up on. Great work, man!

  • Ha, ha...thanks bro...either that, or the "I make every lift look too hard" award!

  • That's a fake scale man.....haha just messin with ya.Killer rep with 245,you earned every inch of that baby!

Do yourself a favor and don't ever go that low on behind the neck press, you went all the way down to your traps. That's so bad for the rotator cuff.If you ever do them again only go to the bottom of your ears at best.

    Anyway great workout,great strength....1000 stars!

  • Thanks Mark. Yeah, I am actually 250 lbs...

    Congrat's on the 345 x 5 reps! That's setting up a big single.

Thanks for the advice. I never do those, but I wanted to see what it was like to do a full rep. I have to place my elbows at a different angle to do BTN presses, compared to military presses. Funny enough, I didn't feel any discomfort in my shoulders. I was surprised...(last time I tried them I did....although, I didn't rotate my elbows like I did this time).

  • nice work!! u really should post a vid of you doing some standing push presses..I wanna see what kinda weight u can push and using momentum..if u were to fail the btn press..how would u save it? ur gettin good with the movie editor : )

  • Thanks bro...

Maybe I'll start push presses or something like that (maybe BTN push presses). I would have to learn the technique though, as I have never really done them before.

I failed with 235 lbs after doing 2 plates...I just dropped the bar on the spot racks. No big deal...(I think I can get 235 lbs BTN if I didn't max out on Military Press first).

  • Randy be very careful if you do push presses from behind the neck, they're very dangerous.I missed a lift once doing them that way and it came down and hit me in the back of the neck.I'm lucky it didn't kill me.Trust me do them to the front,it's a much safer way.

  • Thanks for the advice Mark. I will probably try out both methods to see how they feel and I will only use very light weight for the first few weeks until I feel comfortable with the movement. I have to get the technique down before I try and meaningful weight.

That would suck having 300 lbs come down on your head. I wish I had olympic plates that I could bounce around...that would make me more comfortable...but whatever.

  • ?haventy you done 260 before?????????

    gj man!!!

  • I have done 270 lbs with a very steep incline. But this bench was at 90 degrees...a little harder. (25 lb difference at the moment)

  • strong shoulders dude!

You might be able to rep your bodyweight close to ten reps.

I do not think you are suppose to go down all the way on behind the neck presses, i think you are only suppose to go to ear level, but I guess if it doesn't bother your shoulders and it works for ya stick with it!

  • i dont think you are supposed to do behind the neck period. very bad for you.

  • I was taught in a weight training class going behind the neck is only bad going all the way down, but around the ear area is ok, same with behind the neck lat pulldowns, but I guess it doesn't seem to bother bretzzer.

  • I am a fan of full reps. If I am not flexible enough to get a full rep...I'll do an exercise that I can...but that's just me.

  • Well as i said before if it doesn't hurt your shoulder joints or anything then i guess it's alright, some people seem to tolerate it, some don't.

225 behind the neck is very impressive, I can't even get 205 to ear level, I can only do 200 front touching my chest and 225 around nose level. I am a fan of full ROM myself because so many people on here say touching your chest is proper form, some say around your chin, some say around the nose, some day your arms have to be 90 degrees.

  • Thanks Jared. I think I can get at least 235 lbs BTN fresh and probably 250 lbs on the Front Press, but I hardly ever do these, so I had to start lower and see where I was at. We'll see next week...

  • What I do is usually train to around chin level as its feel most comfortable for me, but occasionally will do chest reps to satisfy all the guys who believe touching the chest is proper form, same with bench press, people say arching is cheating, so i will max with my back flat as well every now and then, also there just extra challenges and i love em lol!

  • Sounds good bro.

  • Agreed....I am not a fan. But I wanted to see if I could get 2 plates.

  • Agreed...

  • Thanks Jared. Yeah, I just wanted to do 2 plates for a FULL rep so that I know I can do it.

  • Atta b way to battle!

  • Thanks man...

  • good job once again

  • Thanks bro...

  • nice

  • Thanks.
