  • For me I found better. It is called a shipping container. I got one delivered that is 40 foot by 9 foot high for 2500. Very strong and heavy than one of these. but tons of space.

  • You can build an earth bag home for hundreds. If you go cob, even less. We see FLARE on city choppers so we know they will use FLARE in the woods after SHTF. Earth bag or cob blocks body heat signatures. Just make sure to have a wild grass roof to complete the package.

  • @MinisterQuietBuck We're all looking for a way out of the system, your idea is the ideal one. Me myself- I'm aiming at an earthship or something like you suggest. God help me I'll see it done, just you wait and see. God bless brother and thanks for the encouragement. I see eye to eye with you on that.

  • Man that would suite me down to the ground peachy. Roach

  • I thought about this myself, but I think the chipboard has some off-gassing issues, can't remember. But after you buy it and finish it off, it would probably be about double the cost. I think finding an RV for 6k may be easier, but it depends on where you live.

  • @heartlandcountrygirl You are right, I was steered away from these recently. If nothing else they will do but they got bad deterioration issues like you said.

  • Looking at prefab sheds too as for quality I would add my own touch for sure like insulation and weather protectors. I have basic to moderate shop skills and I know I could add on better than I can from scratch. Good luck!

  • Buy a used RV for that price, has everything, toilet, bed,ac,shower etc etc. Plus you can take it with you

  • @deepfriedking I can't seem to find one for less than 10 grand, then you got the whole durability issue. It just seems like an RV isn't built like it needs to be. Hank has a couple RV trailers though.

  • @LeonRFpoa What? dude come on, RV are cheaper then dirt, I have two friends that picked up fema trailers for $3000 a piece! Craigslist should have what your looking for, build a shed over it and it will last forever, The problem with RV's is people leave them out in the weather for years at a time and think they are just going to be fine when they jump in them to use, meanwhile rats, freezes and the sun have made life hell, Keep it in a shed and no problems. Just go rid of a 30 year old one!

  • I was a prefab framer for a few years. took me 2K & one afternoon for me to build mine witth one helper. Corse there are no windows its' just storage. I would recoment the big sheets of roofing in place of the plywood. It lasts longer & needs less upkeep. We have ours up on 4x4 posts because of damp conditions. If possible add bracing at all floor seams.

  • i bought that same shed for a chicken coop 4 years ago the woods all deteriorated already re building a new one in the spring

  • @jdietz730 really. That's good to know

  • i built my log cabin for $12.00 and its about 100 times better, stronger and cooler than one of those things

  • buy a used rv trailer. Same price, all the off grid needs. Also you can move if your area falls to crap.

  • @JULYINJULY problem with an rv is how flimsy they are.

  • LOL,...i'm with ya LeonRFpoa,...our modern society considers this a shed, but a shed in a first world country could be a nice li'l flat in a third world,....reminds me of my childhood days, over in the foothills(30 ft. high)of Behind the Rocks, my friends and me dug this cool underground fort, covered it with cardboard and then a layer of dirt and presto, it was really neato! Well, anyways for se utah hillbillys,....hehehe!! =D

  • @qualqui God bless man, happy 2012 if I hadn't said it yet. Still trying to get to all my responses but I see your posts and want you to know I see every one of them. Good fortune in the new year man, it has to get better from here!

    Thanks good buddy

  • trying to remember the name of the company I bought mine from, but I found Lancaster county barns that looks exactly the same as the one I had before. I miss it. It had a loft and gabled roof. A real work of art. The Tuff shed I bought, while serving its purpose, has a much lower ceiling, was overpriced, and it is all glued particle board crap. But it was the only one approved by the homeowner's association where I live now.

  • I have bought one of those and before that a prefab house built by the Amish. My advice, go buy one from the Amish. Quality is way better. I think it was even less expensive.

  • @fastacker2 I'm gonna look into that, thanks man

  • I'll be honest, I could live in something like that! Seriously. All I need is a big enough space for a bathroom (yeah, thats important to me), and I'm good. I don't need a kitchen. I don't need seperate bedrooms...Once my daughter is off to college, I'll probably be living in something like that!

  • @mbyr31 3,419$ installed bro. A little insulation on the walls like some tapestries or something, a wood stove a rug and a tv in front of a futon would do it for me.

  • Neat idea!!

  • @oaktreega they make a 7,000$ one that's two levels it could really be a contender if you knew some basic renovation skills.

  • that would be your " man cave " :P

  • I don't know about living in it But it sure would make one hell of a deer stand about 30 feet in the air with a deck around it :)

  • i love those little houses

  • @mgonza29 I'm looking into them, seems a sustainable and viable option for a guy like me. Even for a hunting lodge it would work.
