After years of communism there is no easy way to make Belarus wealthy country with living standards comparable to those from free and democratic countrys. Belarussians enterprises are uncompetitive and energy-consuming. Most of them would die without state subsidy. Also communism created people passive and frightened. They are afraids of any changes.

About them shot, exiled to concentration camps or resettled I know for sure.And with other nations there's the same story,The problem is not ethnicity.The problem's methods of governance.My great-grandfather,a Russian,was shot just for the fact he was a representative of the intelligentsia.You know,those giving the orders,hardly all were Russians.

Of course every democrtaic country has the police. But the main difference between Belarus and other countries is the way police work. In Belarus you might be arrested for taking part in demonstration which is the base of democratic society - everybody has the right to talk loudly what he thinks. My family is from Belaruss, but that`s long story. Let me explain it this way : your grandparents fought bravely against Germany. They payd ab 20 millions victims and finally won the war. Lukashenko is a good leader. These idiots waving their red and white flags (modified from the flag of England)are going to wreck the country just like the 'Orange revolution' wrecked Ukraine.
And y don't you show riot police in the USA attacking anti-war demostrators. At least those people have a real point.

You live in Belarus. You should know that the Russian language was adopted under the Soviet regime so how can Lukashenko who is a stuanch Belorusian 'exterminate' the belorusian language and culture. Who told you that there is 'clear wlection fraud'? Fox news? CNN? the same guys that said Iraq had WMDs? Yeah all the opposition disapears to their holiday houses in the Mediteranian and western europe

also, lukashenka was the one to introduce russian as the second official language in belarus, thus reducing the need for the belarusian language in the country.
re. the opposition leaders disappearing in their holiday houses: why don´t you say this to their families, still hoping to see these people one day?

Do u live in masherovo, pretitsk? Can't you see how beautiful Minsk is? You want all of Lukashenko's efforts of a stable transition from planned economy to a free market 1 to go to waste? Honestly do these people understand that out of all x- Soviet republics they are one of the most prosperous and probably the most stable besides the numerous STANS. Don't worry I use a variety of sorces before forming an opinion

After years of communism there is no easy way to make Belarus wealthy country with living standards comparable to those from free and democratic countrys. Belarussians enterprises are uncompetitive and energy-consuming. Most of them would die without state subsidy. Also communism created people passive and frightened. They are afraids of any changes.

my argument however is for belarus NOT to follow the same path as Russia that opted for a over night transition. Belarus can achieve the same economic goals without the social fallouts that have occured in Russia (just don't tell gypsie that. He thinks he's Ricardo)

You reason logical zioln. But why do you think that democratization process, freedom of speech and assembly would be harmful to Belorussians? What's wrong with it? Do you think that pluralism of view in Belarus would be sth worse and more damaging than in Poland? Why do you want to defend Belorussians against freedom? Probably even in honest election Lukashenka would win becouse most of Belorussians would cast one's vote on someone who think similar to you.

I honestly do not think that the demostrators in the video truely understand the situation. They are told that the 'Orange' revolution in Ukraine was a good thing. They also should understand that at this point the country needs a firm hand to have a successful transition to avoid what happened in the 90s in Russia.

When Boris Yeltsen came to power he decided that the best way for Russia to embrace the new political system was to start its economy from scratch. Yeltsin and his advisers, including reform economist Yegor Gaydar, established a program of radical economic reforms. The old system was torn down and overnight the countries wealth found its way from the state into the hands of less than 10% of the population. This became the century's biggest day light robbery.

As inflation skyrocketed due to restructuring of the monetary policy, government spending was cut and people plunged into poverty the West clapped their hands in approval.
When Putin came topower he had to clean up this social-economic mess with firm leadership. And the West shook their heads in disaproval, calling him a dictator. Belarus does not need a Yeltsen type reform!

Compare it with living standards of old Russians. The difference is like between Audi and Moskvich. Don't you ever puzzled why it is so? The answer is : freedom in Germany (West Germany of course) and communism in USSR.

Try to ask old, poor and ailing Red Army veterans which are force to make choise - food or medicine - who really won? That's my explain for you why I hate communism, why I prefer freedom and why Polish people supported Orange Revolution. Next time when you would think that free market is against people (also in Belarus), than think about Audi. Regards.
