The reality isn't that Nightwish changed only for Anette. Tuomas changes and so do all the other members. They change with every album. It would have changed again even if Tarja had been on their 6th full album. Everyone is entitled to prefer ones voice to another but it's important to recognize that Nightwish will always be evolving and so will their music regardless of who is singing
I agree with rick17543, Anette has an awesome voice, but she lacks the vocal range and singing technique that Tarja was known for. Annette seems to struggle in the higher ranges where Tarja would breeze through no problem. But I'm also hopeful that with time, Anette will become more experienced and reach a higher level of singing.

Some guys forget that this is Nightwish, not Anette or Tarja version of a song. This is a very powerful and beautiful song about the blood of many native americans, and Anette gives very well the message. Both Anette and Tarja are great singers, but the most important thing is the band, not the main singer!

Not that I didn't like Tarja's...Tarja was good on Nightwish's more...cold, gothic, romantic songs. Which were beautiful, but that's her strength. With Annette, it's almost more, idk, earthen, emotional.

The interpertation of Anette and Tarja is very different. Tarja was more dramatic, gave a more epic feeling to the song, Anette has a more humble approach, as a respect to those who died in song's story.
Anyway, both interpretation are awsome, I just adore this song :)
Anette does some songs justace such as this one. However the more demanding ones such as "Wishmaster" she ends up blowing. They should go through the set and drop the "Dramatic epic" ones such as Wishmaster in favor for the gentler ones such as this, and Nemo, and possably Wish I had an Angel.
"Wishmaster" is a dramatic epic song? X'D Then what is Creek Mary's Blood after all? "Wishmaster" is simply a metal song nothing more than that, no epic feeling there.

This song fits Anette's voice much better than Tarja's. It's starting to sound a bit more power metal-ish too.
And for all of those complaining about Tarja, etc. -- she does covers of some of the old Nightwish songs in her current solor career, which I think is nice to hear, especially songs like Passion and the Opera which I haven't heard in years
I was at that concert. I was about 2 heads from the front and got to shake hands with Marco and Anette at the end. It was an incredible performance and I'm glad people are finally warming up to Anette and her incredible skill
I hadn't watched this one before and I didn't even know they had ever performed this live with Anette! It's such a delight hearing her sing this one. She really gives a new strength, a new dimension to the old songs. I SIMPLY LOVED THIS ONE. It's my new favourite of her renditions.

thats pretty much my interpretation as well. I think its great to have liked Tarja, I did too, but I'm a Nightwish fan, so I'm staying loyal to he band and I trust them in choosing Anette. Plus, I just dont see any sense in hating one of them because you love the other. I still appreciate Tarja's voice in the old songs, though i like them with Anette's voice too. In the end, its all about the music, and the voice makes a big difference sometimes, but its still amazing because its Nightwish.
I think a band is about WAY more than just the singer. Thats why I still love Nightwish, no matter what, but as much as I love her voice, I can't stand Tarja's new music. Well, there's one song I can stand, but it still doesn't come anywhere CLOSE to Nightwish material.
yeah i believe tuomas set out to create a 'film score metal' band. not a 'gothic metal' band. So what he and the band decides is right, that is their decision and if people hate it, then they loose fans, but i know many people who like the new nightwish and don't like the older stuff that much b/c of the opera, and i think nightwish will gain all of those people as part of their new fan base, to replace the ones they may have lost
yeah. It used to piss me off when people said that Nightwish would be nothing without Tarja. Obviously that isn't the case. They've done amazingly well, and those people didn't know much about metal in the first place if they thought the singer made the band. she was obviously very important to it, but still...they can go on without her.

Yeye! I was there! I wasn't near any of ya'll though :( I was on the right side near Emppu. Emppu is uber 1337. You might've seen me though, I definately stood out. I was that short little kid with the bright red shirt and white jacket standing next to another kid (but much taller) wearing another white jacket.
This really was an incredible show, even with starting 45 min late cause of sound problems with the drums. I was standing right next to the guy waving the Finnish flag...too bad it was also right next to 3 guys who were TOTALLY wasted and drunk and kept heckling Anette and falling all over everyone around me.
For some reason, the headliner's soundcheck ALWAYS has difficulties. I ALWAYS get stuck next to drunk people at shows. And I was RIGHT NEXT to the same loser that was next to me at Symphony X. Her voice impressed me though, I think she did reasonably better than some of the first videos of her performing overseas.

omg nightwish was so awesome...i admit wondered about annette but after hearing her voice at this show, she really impressed me..she's very energetic..the only thing i didn't understand was her wearing a tiara...
I can actually hear this better than I did at the concert. I was in the front row, so all I heard was drums and bass, basically. but it was so amazing. I got to shake all of their hands and hug Anette at the end.

This song fits Anette's voice much better than Tarja's. It's starting to sound a bit more power metal-ish too.
And for all of those complaining about Tarja, etc. -- she does covers of some of the old Nightwish songs in her current solor career, which I think is nice to hear, especially songs like Passion and the Opera which I haven't heard in years

I was at that concert. I was about 2 heads from the front and got to shake hands with Marco and Anette at the end. It was an incredible performance and I'm glad people are finally warming up to Anette and her incredible skill

I hadn't watched this one before and I didn't even know they had ever performed this live with Anette! It's such a delight hearing her sing this one. She really gives a new strength, a new dimension to the old songs. I SIMPLY LOVED THIS ONE. It's my new favourite of her renditions.

it took a while for me, but Anette really grew on me. I really dont think she's pop though. her voice is PERFECT for rock, especially 80s. its really obvious when you listen to alysonavenue.
I'm actually glad they didn't get a singer of Tarjas style, just because then i think it almost would have been insulting to listen to someone try to imitate her.

when your a band, and someone like the singer leaves, there is really no way you can please all your fans, but you have to do what is right, i feel nightwish did the right move, a risky move, but the right move.

yeah man exactly, i think the people who complain about all this, were only fans of tarja, and nightwish just happened to be her band at the time, so they said they were fans of nightwish, but thats only my interperitation of it all

thats pretty much my interpretation as well. I think its great to have liked Tarja, I did too, but I'm a Nightwish fan, so I'm staying loyal to he band and I trust them in choosing Anette. Plus, I just dont see any sense in hating one of them because you love the other. I still appreciate Tarja's voice in the old songs, though i like them with Anette's voice too. In the end, its all about the music, and the voice makes a big difference sometimes, but its still amazing because its Nightwish.

I think a band is about WAY more than just the singer. Thats why I still love Nightwish, no matter what, but as much as I love her voice, I can't stand Tarja's new music. Well, there's one song I can stand, but it still doesn't come anywhere CLOSE to Nightwish material.

yeah i believe tuomas set out to create a 'film score metal' band. not a 'gothic metal' band. So what he and the band decides is right, that is their decision and if people hate it, then they loose fans, but i know many people who like the new nightwish and don't like the older stuff that much b/c of the opera, and i think nightwish will gain all of those people as part of their new fan base, to replace the ones they may have lost

yeah. It used to piss me off when people said that Nightwish would be nothing without Tarja. Obviously that isn't the case. They've done amazingly well, and those people didn't know much about metal in the first place if they thought the singer made the band. she was obviously very important to it, but still...they can go on without her.

This really was an incredible show, even with starting 45 min late cause of sound problems with the drums. I was standing right next to the guy waving the Finnish flag...too bad it was also right next to 3 guys who were TOTALLY wasted and drunk and kept heckling Anette and falling all over everyone around me.

For some reason, the headliner's soundcheck ALWAYS has difficulties. I ALWAYS get stuck next to drunk people at shows. And I was RIGHT NEXT to the same loser that was next to me at Symphony X. Her voice impressed me though, I think she did reasonably better than some of the first videos of her performing overseas.
