did someone say martina didn't play doubles at aus 02. cos i remember watching her and kournikova win d doubles title that year. i recall this match quite well. with d ridiculous court temperatures u knew capriati would win d longer d match lasted. hingis just simply fell away deep in to d second set. she ran out of gas and lucky capriati was just that much fresher.

Maybe it was the French Open 2001 where Hingis opted not to play duobles... Jenn routed in straights 6-3, 6-4 in the semis. How was Capriati lucky in OZ02? She hit winners/unreturnables on 3 of the 4 match points she had against her...

Hingis was good but obviously not good enough she was a teen prodigy that won slams before the Williams Sisters got going. Once, Venus and Serena got consistent they blasted Hingis and the rest of the WTA off the court. Justine Henin is the only player that is as good as the Williams Sisters.

Its very natural for some people to gain muscles easily. There are many body types out there and serena is the body type that gains muscles easily but also gain weight easily as well. Hingis is the other body type that doesnt gain mucles or weight as easily. Btw Dope doesnt make u have a body like a man. And no the williams are not ugly they are pretty enough for an african american and you can expect them to look like a white woman if thats what u consider pretty. I consider the williams pretty

It was a shame that Martina did not win this match after defeating BOTH Williams sisters in this tournametn. Martina was tired and had nothing in the tank.

Martina was just outplayed on every level by Capriati in this match... she was not tired (she took Venus out 6-1, 6-1 in the semis). Also, in 2002 she didn't play doubles so she wouldn't be "tired" and Jenn outlasted her in the heat. I like Hingis... but Jenn just blasted her off the court everytime they met after this match (FO01 Semis for example)...

She did play doubles in 2002, winning the title with Kournikova. But yeah, Hingis lost her edge with Capriati from this 2001 final on out. It's a shame, but Hingis is still, in my opinion, one of the most graceful and talented players of all time. I don't think I've seen anyone else pull off the plays she has.

it was amazing to see Jennifer become a GS champion like this so late in her career. in the 90's she was reduced to a 2nd grade top player by the likes of Seles and Graf, and must have felt inferior. Yet she eventually managed to win 3 slams, I was very happy for her.

I just wish she would have won Wimbledon and the U.S. Open that year and completed a calendar Grand Slam!
