  • The 1st 45RPM record I bought was this one in 1961.

  • Check out those Continental suits those cool cats are wearing!!!

  • the tubes in the amps were all made and assembled here in USA back in the day. glory days beautiful America. so then. god bless the Ventures Dwane Eddy the Shaddows

  • Bristol, Connecticut

  • Love the Bristol Stomp...One of the best dances of all time (in my opinion). Thanks for posting

  • Where exactly is Bristol? I remember seeing this great group in Wildwood, N.J. on the boardwalk. They were out of this world.

    Iris

  • @irismcooper Lower Bucks County, PA. Right across from Burlington, NJ

  • I'm a proud resident of riverside Bristol in bucks county.

Every time there is a special party down by the river, this song is the main theme

    played over and over again.

    It's like our theme song.

  • Like many Rock-'n-Roll Tunes of that day, the actual story behind the lyrics are at cross-purposes with the common belief. Originally, this diddy was written as a gag piece...to spoof the huge problem of the annual cockroach (German) infestation in Bristol...& their "Roach Stomping" parties. A city well noted for same. I KNOW this to be true, 'cause THE WOLFMAN ("If I'm lying, I'm dying!) himself, "laid it on us" before his demise.

  • Sweet t says this tune is jumping

  • I play for bristol high basketball in PA and we come out of the lockeroom to this song!

  • @MistaMushie15 That's awesome!!!!! The cheerleaders should be dancing to this.

  • MAKES ME PROUD TO BE FROM SOUTH PHILLY

  • @ANTHONYMASCI623

their are from overbrook high in west philly

  • Great record, takes me back to Palisades Park and Cousin Brucie.

    11-28-11

  • Sharp as a thistle!

  • I've always loved Len and the Dovells and have their 2 volume CD. Can't stand lip syncing though.

  • One the absolute best!

  • 1960 and 1961 and 1962 was 3 very specail years for music, Then every thing changed. I can the beatles.

  • yeah canteens and kickin some ass good times

  • good group.i had the original 45 in the late 1970's,but got rid of it because the record was badly off-centered and sounded awful.but found a re-issue 45 in 1990 and plays good.i'm glad a lot of their original cameo-parkway hits are on cd(found a gh cd by them in 2005).great song too.

  • It's got that groovy beat, that makes you stomp your feet. I love it.

  • @jimbamboozled This tune is the ultimate. Can you imagine teenagers dancing to this beat. I have seen black girls jump rope to different tunes and they are awesome. They have the energy and beat to do wonders with this song. It would be a hit all over again. I hope somebody sees this reply and gets some kids to do it. Just make sure it is posted. I would love to see and enjoy it.

  • The Dovells hit #2 in Billboard, 10-23-61. Len Barry on lead vocals. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • WHAT A JUMPIN' TUNE! THANK YOU FOR THE BACKROUND INFORMATION YOU'VE SO UNSELFISHLY TAKEN THE TIME TO PROVIDE FOR "US" HERE,IT IS TRULY APPRECIATED! TOM D.

  • who cares who likes what ? consider something important.

  • Great job KauailsLove...which means you know who Daddy G was!?!

  • Wasn't Len Barry the lead?

  • Is it me, or did Grease copy this song for "We go Together" ?

  • So, here I am. Early, very early, in the morning and I'm walking guard duty in a unholy, incredibly itchy woolen uniform in Fort Knox. Whom to I run into doing the same thing? One of the Dovels. Nothing like Uncle Sam to make us all equal - NOT a bad thing. He went on in life to be successful in real estate. I went on to be rather succsssful in TV News. The point? Nothing. When the curtain opens go for it.

  • But the DJs started playing this song in early 1962. That's also when you could buy the 45.

  • Had it not been for songs like this and other songs from those great artists out of Philadelphia in the early 1960s, rock and roll music may have gone the way of the Edsel. THIS is one of my favorites from that era. Thank you for posting this.

  • What a great song!! I loved it when it first came out and love it more now!!

Thanks for the post...and the lyrics!!

  • Here's some trivia...Can anyone name another song where "Daddy G" is mentioned?

  • @SerenaBay Quarter to Three Gary U.S. Bonds!

  • @SerenaBay Daddy G is also mentioned in "Quarter to Three" and "Having So Much Fun" by Gary "U.S." Bonds.

  • Awesome song! Doo wop from the 50's and 60's is simply the best!

  • I am from Bristol Ct, This is my new jam.

  • Love this DOWOP Philly sound, today's so called R&B or RAP can't compare to that talent.

  • I used to dance my skinny legs into cramps to this song when I was twelve years old.

  • I love this song. I love that whole era of music!

  • lots of great songs in the 50s and 60s and this is 1of them.

  • Every Day of the Week was by the Students. And it does appear that it was the inspiration for this song.

  • my mother was 12 when this song came out,she was in Bristol Pa,the night The Dovells sang this live

  • One person needs to be stomped.

  • Personally I would LOVE to see Len Barry get inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I think he belongs there a helluva lot more than many who are already there.

  • 1 person hates happiness

  • One of my oldies favorites

  • can't believe one person didn't like it...

  • @MikkuNeko It's not that they dislike it. These are the spiteful, jealous people that have nothing better to do.

I have enough videos to know I'm right. When someone has something to say they don't hit the dislike, and when they only hit the dislike without a comment those are the spiteful, jealous ones! I don't really care about ratings...Let them go argue withalmost 4 million viewers!...

  • @MikkuNeko Did you ever hear of a song called "Every day of the week" by The Teenagers. It came out a few years before the Dovells were ever heard of. Like a lot of the music originally done by black aritsts, the whites took the credit without mentioning where it came from. Pull it up. The teenagers are here on youtube and realize the Bristol Stomp's melody was merely a cover of that earlier hit.

  • @kdakuginow Sort of like the Temptations doing Walk Away Renee which was done by the Left Banke? Tons of artists copied

  • @SethraLavode99 Point taken and back then like today, credit is rarely given to the original I apologize for the goofed up with the name of that do whop group, it was the Students, not the Teenagers.

  • @kdakuginow No worries mate! That guy who totally and I mean totally stole Ben E Kings beat from Stand By Me, had requested me as a friend (as artists tend to do) on myspace and I listened to his song, which became a hit on the radio. I pointed out that he "borrowed" the beat and he had the nerve to tell me that no, he didn't it was all his and that he's on the radio. Anytime anyone mentions him, I call him Vanilla Ice. I don't go for that. Give credit where it's due. Simple as that.

  • @SethraLavode99 I think it was the four tops that re-recoded Walk away Renee and not the Temptations.

  • @MikkuNeko

Some peoples "SOLE PURPOSE " in life is to be a complainer!!!!!!

  • @MikkuNeko....the one dislike must work at the DMV. They don't like anything.

  • In the 50s and 60s artists wore SUITS to perform. Today rappers wear no shirt and pants at their asscrack! How times have changed.

  • @joshster89 in the 50s and 60s black people were not allowed to even drink out of the same water fountain or eat in the same places as white, good thing times have changed. yeah your right, times really have changed

  • @mnvikingsfan36 way to turn it into a racial issue jackass. He was simply saying they dressed well back then. Not everything is racist you know...

  • A Top 5 hit for The Dovells in the fall of 1961. It was kept out of the #1 spot by Ray Charles, Dion, and Jimmy Dean.

  • The year I graduated H.S. This was the top hit. I still dig it!

  • I passed by Bristol yesterday,on my way down to Citizens Bank Park.

  • I like the song but I'd love to hear it done in tune with better percussion and engineering. Some of these records sound like they have a production budget of $1.98. Of course, if you're listening to it on a transistor radio, it's hard to tell the difference!

  • whoooa whoa

    doo wop at its best

  • i live where this song is about if u dont kno it here your an outsider every dance or public place with music plays this if u dont do this ur not a bristolian i love to go back and listen to this song.

  • I Love Hearing the Kind of Music that was around in 1961 the Year I was Born.

  • The Bristol Stomp sounds like a painful hate crime...

but it makes a hell of a song!

  • I was in Bristol Pa. in 2004. What a place. No one should ever want to go there. It''s a run down hole.

  • I was in Bristo Pa. in 2004. What a place. No one should ever want to go there. It''s a run down hole.

  • How cool was that? The single actually had the dance steps on the label. Not that I could dance to save my life.

  • If you aren't doin the Bristol Stomp along with the song, you don't deserve to click like..

  • 1 person needs to get bristol stomped

  • ahh! memories of a better time!

  • @superman2542 No truer words were ever said my friend.

  • I ALWAYS WANDERED WHO SANG THAT SONG.

  • Heck out the thousands of profiles for Naughty women mworld5.info

  • The kids in Bistol are sharp as a pistol when they do the bistol stomp!!!

    Fun! Fun! Fun!

  • I have no idea what they're singing about, but I've always loved this song. It just moves really well.

  • @SethraLavode99 Here's what Wikipedia says: "The song was written about teenagers in 1961 who were dancing a new step called "The Stomp" at dances. . . . The song refers to Bristol, Pennsylvania, a blue collar suburb of Philadelphia." Sorry, it's the researcher in me.

  • this is from the fun days of rock'n roll!

  • @TheBabyboomkidof53 My oldest brother told me about this group they competed in a talent contest and everyone thought they were black but they turned out to be a bunch of white guys with talent

  • I fell in love with this song, back in the 70s. There was a Michigan group called Frut (Frut Of The Loom) that did nothing but oldies. Way before I ever heard of Sha Na Na. The used to use this in their act.

  • This has to be one of the top 5 songs EVER!

(and its not because I'm from Philly)

  • This song by the Dovells just totally rocks! This is what real rock n roll music is all about! Just get the lead out & start stomping!!!!

  • bristol is a hottie!

  • I cant get enough of this type of music. The music of today really does suck ass.

  • @MrRdrcr Welcome to my "GENERATION" my friend.Great music wasn't it.I remember when this song came out.GREAT dance music.I saw them sing this song on the Steel Pier in Atlantic City. They don't have nothin today. They think they do.

  • @MrRdrcr If I may add. Music today doesn't suck ass, but it sucks the asshole!!!!

  • FUCKING AWESOME

  • Len Borisoff was later Len Barry, who had a hit in the 1960s with "One Two Three".

  • Great song from my hometown. (FYI: Bristol is in Bucks County & is a part of my hometown of Philly! Yea!!)

  • Perhaps if Palin did this, she'd impress the judges.

  • I remember my mom played the 45.

  • LOVE IT!!

  • Lead singer is Len Barry

  • Wow, it's MARIS AND MANTLE all over again when I hear this song. And every girl I met that year.

  • What a blast from the past. I'm remembering doin' the slop to this one at a Junior High School dance. Thanks for posting.

  • @Annettesmusic Jr high dance, hey? Since i'm a gentleman, I won't ask what yr that was. :) But, I did dance to this in Philly where the song was born! The year was 1961 if I recall.

  • @63striker

    Yup. That was it.. '61.

  • Is "Daddy G" in this song the same Daddy G that Gary "U.S." Bonds sang about in "Quarter to Three"?

  • These white bulls could sing

  • Nice, i really like that strong rhythm guitar up front.

  • Bristol Palin will be dancing to this next week.

  • @juanmalaka2001: Not anymore she won't...

  • Comment removed

  • The best from 1961. If you don't like this song, you don't like music. From the same school as Wilt Chamberlain.
