Well, I may have found the solution: that "Craig" guy is maybe DB's accomplice and a really good math student (even if he doesn't really look that smart lol) and simply adds up very fast the numbers the 2 other persons chose, then subtracts the result to the total. For instance, he knows he must add up to 10904, so if he sees that they have chosen 2347 and 654, he choses 7093 as the 3rd number, because 10904-2347-654 = 7093.
You can see he's getting very excited when he comes to him and give him time to think, also he's get to pick the last number 2 times. the numbers where picked bef4 they started.
With the first one, I knew it would come out with a 6, because he was speaking the letters S and X loudly. Then I noticed he was repeating '2-digit number' more times than he needed to. When it came out as 62, because he did it in that order, I kind of expected it. But with the rest, I'm absolutely clueless. He's so good at neurolinguistics its amazing.
as far as the third number is concerned its expected to be either 24 or 69, cause brown is manipulating the guy in selecting 2 and 7 as the numbers digits by repeatedly referring to a 2-digit number and the slot machine (the only number among the pictures on classic slot machines being the 7). so the initial number is either 27(-3=24) or 72(-3=69) nevertheless the way he forces the order of the digits or the trics he uses to manipulate the first two in selecting theis numbers are not clear to me

For the second trick he switches the cards around when he goes to give it to the girl to add them together. The reason he gives it to that girl is because she didn't write down any numbers and therefore doesn't know what the three people actually wrote down (the reason for him asking them to not say their numbers out loud). As for the first one, no idea :)
nope, not really. If you look again (round 3:58 ) then you can see that the other 3 people can see the paper too. They had to check if the girl did it right. If mr. Brown would've given her a other note with numbers, they would probably have noticed.

Derren never uses stooges!!! He doesn´t need to! its really well executed and really great entertainment. Of course he´s a magician and tricks everyone in some way BUT he NEVER uses stooges or hired actors. that is only a stupid way to rationalize what you don´t understand...

the 1st time with the 2digit numbers, he let them pick any number then added up the numbers in his head. consequently for the last guy, he made sure that the last guy came up with a number that added up to a total of 121. (he actually suggested through hand gestures and "-3" to lead him)
in the 2nd time, he LED them to pick specific numbers through eye contact and his hand gestures, suggesting numbers to their subconscious mind.
its all REAL psychology! hynopsis. derren brown's a genius.

@samus88 Youre the most idiotic thing. NLP uses the subconcious mind. You cant control or access the information in teh subconcious, yet it influences your decisions. This is what Derren uses. Your concious mind wouldnt pay attention to his hand, yet your subconcious picks the information up and influences your decisions, without you ever knowing it. I'm a psychology major. I learned in every single class that humans are all different from one another and what works on one human might not work on another human. So relax. I will say that when you are tired/stressed, you are more likely to be "tricked."

Much of it is bullshit... But the mind works in a certain way and nearly all people have certain hardwiring which mentalism relies on. The suggestions will work on you in person, I promise, unless you are a very unique person. Most of the suggestions he gives are things your mind picks up on without you consciously knowing. But sometimes the power of unconscious suggestion will not work if the participant is unwilling, such as yourself. The things Brown does are real.

He did this to make sure he was influenced by his suggestions. As he was the last person, the digits had to add up to the right number.

Dont make the mistake beleiving you can't get "tricked" by Derren, even though how "diffrently" you may think.. As he does not need to rely on statistics.
He uses a variety of NLP, Hypnosis, Anchoring, Cold Reading etc to perform his acts.

For the second trick he switches the cards around when he goes to give it to the girl to add them together. The reason he gives it to that girl is because she didn't write down any numbers and therefore doesn't know what the three people actually wrote down (the reason for him asking them to not say their numbers out loud). As for the first one, no idea :)

nope, not really. If you look again (round 3:58 ) then you can see that the other 3 people can see the paper too. They had to check if the girl did it right. If mr. Brown would've given her a other note with numbers, they would probably have noticed.

yeah that is almost a great sales tool for Derren Brown shows. Just knowing that he doesnt mind people knowing that he has failed alot of his tricks isnt a bad thing. At least he admits it. Guys like Chris Angel and Copperfield would NEver admit thier magical failures. Imagine David Blains Street magic failures, im sure there are heaps of them that they didnt show.

This is what magic needs to turn back to. People now are only talking about what tricks a person does, like Criss Angel levitating and such. It SHOULD be people talking about the person himself, what he was like. When it comes to Penn and Teller the first thing I think about is Penns brightness and talkativeness and Tellers silence, not any particular trick. Its the same with Darren Brown.

Watch his hands when hes talking to the participants when they need to think of a number and process it. you can see it very clearly. hes using NLP and Suggestive technicues.

I was just telling what hes doing, because a lot of people think that hes really a psychic or uses some mystical powers.
And i would really reccomend to everyone who is interested in Derren Brown and how he does this, to read his book- Derren Brown- Tricks of the mind.
Theres a lot of info about hypnosis, NLP, thinking traps, and how human mind works.
And as I said, hes brilliant, and to think that he learned this all by himself.... amazing

The only thing I can add to observations, apart from the stooge is that at the end, the other fellow says "It's amazing the THREE of us can come up with THREE different numbers..." Yet there are four people. I do not know what to make of it exactly though.

My guess is that the Italia shirt guy is a stooge - he was always last, so if he knew what's inside the envelopes he could just "think of" the number needed to add up to it.
The other guys are legit.
