This up there IS a problem. Many people ride for thrill so they just put horse to slaughter when he breaks a leg, because they can't get a thrill with horse that's broke a leg! Do you really think horse would do all of this by himself? People push horses but horses have limits TOO. Every horse is different! All they care about is their stupid THRILL.

@WowzaGallop I personally disagree with you. A lot of NH is a joke. Occasionally there are real lessons and I implement those with my horses. Dressage is a sprt based in training and on making the animal the best he can be physically and mentally. Most NH doesn't care how a horse moves under saddle which in turn physically damages him in the future from years of being incorrectly worked.
In addition to the above, I've worked with many NH "trained" horses and they are some of the most confused animals I have ever met. I worked with a "parelli trained" horse and it took months of work for him to behave to where someone aside from myself would ride him. I'm not saying I have something against Parelli, but the fact that its marketed to the average joe with promises that they can do this on their own infuriates me and damages the horse.

personally I think in western u just sit in a saddle all day. I used to ride wester and it is so boring I did barrel racing and cutting and thats easy and boring. Show Jumping gives you a thrill its exciting.

I ride western AND english and I find it irritating that western riders look down on english riers and also that english riders look down on the western. I find them both equally worthy of being recognized, because both are hard as hell and neither requires less skill or less talent.
@Weaponsmaster8595 I do not look down on western riders, there are western clips in this video. they are cutting clips which is what I first did when I started riding. I addressed this question in another post, I didn't have a lot of good clips of western sports.

you know what!! going to shows and eventing brings you and the horse closer together. its not just about the horse or just about the rider. its about the team you make and the bond you share. you preform together as a team. you sweat, fall, run, live, and breathe together. the connection is more than physical.. it goes deeper. sure there are the snobs. but those ppl can only get so far. and even if they r snobs they still need the connection or it wont work.

@mmmmmheyyyy First, I've been riding longer than you. Secondly, i'm not going to get into a piss match. You do not sound like you know what you're talking about if you are blaming the ANIMAL. It is your horse, your responsibility. Yes, they can be bad, but you are still responsible. And you should still be in control. If you can't control the horse and correct the behavior, learn how. The first rule I always teach my kids: it is ALWAYS your fault. The horse is an animal, you are the human.
@darkwolf071 Didnt i say it can be the riders fault? But NO - it isn't always. Sometimes the rider can be doing their best and the horse makes a mistake. However, the rider should always be prepared to fix any problem that comes their way.
@darkwolf071 I completely agree with you , thats was my riding instructress taught me .A horse is only as good as its rider .You have to show them right from wrong .You always have to discipline your horse when it is misbehaving and praise it when it is behaving .If you act timid and scared your horse will take the piss.

This was fantastic. I totally agree with what you're saying. Without my horses, without that rush from finally gettingthat new jump right, or flying headlong down a trail, i would not be able to live. And it is dangerous. I've taken multiple falls that have been greatly injuring to me, and I have the scars to prove it, the videos to show it. In no other sport are the accidents so frequent, and so unprepared for. And thats what makes it fun. The chance we won't make it out and the chance we will.

"we still ride" This part is nothing else but truth. With my earlier horse, when I was younger, I got scared more easily of every scared snap she made and that fright was with me the day before, but today with this young gelding I´ve bought, I´ve noticed that even he´d make a huge IIIIIK -jump and I´d almost fall down, my hearthbeat doesnt spin up to the top and Im just patting him to the neck with a calm voice "what´s the matter? got spooked boy?" :)

Great job! Im sick of people saying that equestrian sports arn't really sports. We do what we do because we love it, and no one can understand that until they do it themselves.
so everyone's saying they do it for the thrill... and it's an addiction, despite the risk of dying etc etc. which is all fine and dandy, but risking another being's life (the horse's) for your own petty "addiction" is pretty pathetic. the horse doesn't consent to entering risky competitions.
You don't ride do you? I have been riding for 13 years and i know that all of my horses love to jump. If they didn't they wouldn't jump like that. Its impossible to make an animal that weighs the better part of a ton do something they don't want to do. The horses love it just as much as the riders. Sometimes they love it even more.
Every horse has its forte. Just like every human. Some horses hate being in the arena, and you can tell. Those horses usually change disciplines. I've seen poor barrel racers become great dressage horses and poor dressage horses become great reining horses. Find the sport the animal loves, and he will excel just as the same for humans. So, yes, they do consent. If they didn't want to, they wouldn't.

That is just a stereotype, some, yes, are rich, but that does not mean they aren't normal people. That does not mean they don't put their heart and soul into every single moment. Passion is not exclusive to only a few people in this world and I have met some of the most talented riders in my opinion and they don't think they are better than every one else. I don't.

@Silverhorse2007 Yeah you obviously do not know what it is like, the rider has to work really hard. Riders dont just sit on their asses, its really tough to for example ride a course of jumps. You have to know what you are doing and have to be very athletic too. The horses are a big part, but they wouldnt be there without us.

I love this.. This is totally true! I hate how people at my school say horseback riding aint a sport, easy and not dangerous.. HELLOOO!!!!! Also i have a ton of people who think it's hilarious that a horse fell on me last March.. I'm like what the heck what if that were u, u would be in pain................ Screw them

"we still ride" This part is nothing else but truth. With my earlier horse, when I was younger, I got scared more easily of every scared snap she made and that fright was with me the day before, but today with this young gelding I´ve bought, I´ve noticed that even he´d make a huge IIIIIK -jump and I´d almost fall down, my hearthbeat doesnt spin up to the top and Im just patting him to the neck with a calm voice "what´s the matter? got spooked boy?" :)

so everyone's saying they do it for the thrill... and it's an addiction, despite the risk of dying etc etc. which is all fine and dandy, but risking another being's life (the horse's) for your own petty "addiction" is pretty pathetic. the horse doesn't consent to entering risky competitions.

You don't ride do you? I have been riding for 13 years and i know that all of my horses love to jump. If they didn't they wouldn't jump like that. Its impossible to make an animal that weighs the better part of a ton do something they don't want to do. The horses love it just as much as the riders. Sometimes they love it even more.

Every horse has its forte. Just like every human. Some horses hate being in the arena, and you can tell. Those horses usually change disciplines. I've seen poor barrel racers become great dressage horses and poor dressage horses become great reining horses. Find the sport the animal loves, and he will excel just as the same for humans. So, yes, they do consent. If they didn't want to, they wouldn't.

Truth is the horses love thier job you get them outta the trailer at a show or competition and they are fired up and ready to go and yes accidents do happen but its not like the riders thinkin well lets see how hard I have to ride him for him to break a leg or something no. those horses are well trained and loved alright so there is nothin pathetic about it

and a horse and rider are a team they think alike they know when somethings wrong they read each others movement and know each others weaknesses and strength. what do you expect horses to do stand out in pasture and waste away or have to be killed for over population like in other countries. months later, I walked out with a halter to take him to a friend to ride n I saddled him n walked him over to her, but he wouldn't let her get on kept walking to the side. she walked him back over to me and gave me the reins while she was going to get lunging tack as soon as she left he bowed down on his front end and wouldn't stand up, I went over to loosen his girth thinkin in was to tight he looked back an started bumpin an nudgin me w/ his head pushin me onto the saddle, been ridin eva since
