@cia5000 Ever heard of Affirmative Action?? Or a myriad of other policies and institutions that are created and designed to lift the colored man out of his mire? That is why so many non-whites are doing "well." Open your eyes! Many people get jobs and positions of power BECAUSE they are NOT white. It is not even covered up. All the time you hear about it going on. Everyone knows non-whites that got into college or got a particular scholarship because they aren't white.
As a Caucasian male, I somehow get the feeling that a lot of these so-called people of color are doing everything they can to remove whitey from all places of power and prestige (over the course of time). But I wonder, if they're successful in achieving their agenda, what do they think will happen to the standard of living they enjoy? After all, didn't the dreaded "white male" have just about everything to do with establishing it?
Nigeria, Salami, Mexico, ... move over -- here we come!!!
I see wise laTINA Sonia SotoMAYOR got her J.D. from YALE Law School in ’79 as did Newark, NJ mayor Cory Booker in transverse ’97. Unrelated to NFL TE Shannon SHARPE; 19212-057; or “uncles and aunts with something to lose from your success in life” themes: Booker’s predecessor, Sharpe JAMES, served concurrently in state capital TRENTon as a state SENATOR--the city Associate Supreme Court Justice SAM aLITo was born 4/1/50. It's just a hunch, but what about that 1613 Chestnut? Who's DAY O'CONnor?
A very political answer to a very loaded statement. I'm not sure how one could miss understand a statement such as the one Justice Sotomayor made regarding the superior abilities of Latino women to white males. As usual, with not so subtle arrogance, those in Washington brush the people's concerns aside under the assumption that the people are to stupid to be taken seriously.
@dictionar1 Omg, so true. She seems very nervous in this video. Her body language is sketchy. Also, she just seems like a disagreeable person all around, kinda creepy. Also, it is obvious her ancestry is predominantly European. I wonder why she hates whites so much...
Sotomayor is a racist , sexist bigot!! GET REAL!!! Just another silly old woman pretending to be a wise learned man!!! If you change the Race Catagorization properly maybe there would be less of it- address it- You have North African and some Arab catagorized as "WHITE" ethnic - Black is a color- you don't go by Genetics or last name- so you guys are fighting over a misinformed - unorganized

if you're going by color, cause your sure not going by birth place or heritage- there is no "WHITE" tribe in archaeology, in fact most have no tribe and fled here to American with new dreams- so if by origin most would be "American" - Latino is a word- not even a good to describe a race, so blame the Census

Because you are a so-called minority gives you the right to use such ill founded words that show the two faced attitudes towards and from so called ethnic groups. Why is the white person not an ethnic group?
It is not a race it's life and we are human, I am tired of ethnic groups whining so much when you get so much given and have so much influence, open your damn eyes to the world outside of yourself and stop falling for this bullshit.
We are human, lets evolve as humans, not as separate races
I'm also a student in college, which makes my perspecive different than most people - I view these different groups as accessing more scholarships and financial aid than I ever could, and I'm sorry, but with my job scrounging to pay for books, it just isnt fair that I don't have the same opportunities.
now that just isn't true. I come from a white family and we can't pay the bills, and I got booted out to the street because my parents couldn't support me. meanwhile, my latino friend lives in a nice two story house with money to blow on disneyland every other weekend.
that statement made by the previous person is so racist and stereotypical. it is NOT true that any ethnic group necessarily has it 'harder' than any other one.
Her exact words were "I would hope a wise Latina woman, with the richness of her experiences would, more often than not, reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life"
Now i understand where you are coming from, it is not secret that most latinos have it harder that white Americans, but she has to watch what she says to the media, and not stereotype like that.
i'm african america democrat female and i can talk on thi ssubject of race but i can also see she is a racist. her actions too have made me recosider my previous thought. very sad.
This whole day has been a lesson on how many way can a leftist liberals lie. I haven't heard a leftist tell the truth yet.... goes to prove their lack of integrity and values. The leftist have been hiding behind true liberals forever and the true liberals should be mad as hell at them. The marxist left are cowards and never will come forward and say " hey look at me....I am a marxist....I hate this country." Instead they hide behind true democrats for shelter.
agreed...! what really gets me is that she will be confirmed and we will be screwed!!! but i do have a message for the likes of her,,,my guns will be taken from my cold dead hands!!!!!!!
In the UK people hate Thatcher our old Tories Prime Minister, but she told us when we were to be F**cked, the leftist labour party under Tony Blair F**cked us under the guise of helping. Now us who voice cannot because of these socialista's afraid of true human change
Sotomayor was part of a three-judge panel earlier this year which ruled in Maloney v. Cuomo that the Second Amendment does not apply to the states. As she and her cohorts claimed, the Supreme Court has not yet incorporated the states under the Second Amendment. Gun Owners of America website.
This woman's race has absolutely nothing to do with why she shouldn't even be a judge, let alone a supreme court nominee... but those who appose her will be called such merely because they do not have to prove it, they only need to make the accusation and their willing accomplices in the media will eat it up and spit it right back out with all the hype and unintelligent illogical drivel they spew minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day, week to week, month to month, year to year...
The only thing that will allow her to be appointed to office is the arrogance and indifference, of those who are naive enough to believe her "explanations," even though she has made these types of statements on MULTIPLE occasions and not just once. The spineless "re-pube-licans" will most likely curtail to the pressure from the other side due to being too pussy whipped, by their own power, to stand up for what is right. They are also probably scared of being called "racist" by the other side...
Beware of Lindsey, he's not your friend, and even if you're glad he likes you, he won't vote for you. And he's going to hammer you for being on the PR board. It's apparent that the old white Republican doofases resent the fact that you're a wise Latino woman. Kyl can read a speech but he can't understand it. Kyl be a duh white man. These Republican dopes are very responsible for the ruin that Bush and Dick has brought to America. Maybe you and Eric can put them in prison. Good job,
I absolutely HATE it when the little annoying emo kids do this, but in this particular instance, I will make an exception, as I don't know how to better express myself:
Of course she has to lie. Otherwise, she wouldn't be getting the job. This is like a job interview, and she wants the job. The only difference is that her appointment would affect all Americans, and not just her. I hope she is telling the truth, but her background tells us that she isn't. So, we have a choice to believe everything she says today, and forget about what she said before, or believe that she is lying to us to get the job. I have more security with the latter.
Good point, Abe--that's why, very likely, we will soon see rogue elements in the involved American electorate hunting down and beating living snot out of people like this, and her mentors--as a chilling effect. NOT That I Personally endorse violence, as a means of resolving issues, or making statements; I'm just saying...
She was so proud about her "latina experience" that she repeated the same statement numerous times, not thinking that it would come back and haunt her.
The question isn't whether a person of Latino or other ethnicity has the opportunity to become a judge in America. The question was given two judges, one Latino and one not, would she side with the Latino just by virtue of the fact that he/she was Latino. Until she answers that convincingly negative I have to assume the answer is yes.
this is what bothers me, "better than a white man?" ...
that statement alone is a racist statement.. it is not directed at any individual white person. she has judged the entire white race in a single sentence ..
The reason why the Republican Party is imploding is they attack everything they see as "liberal". The problem is that Sotomayor is not a racist. You may disagree with her, but she is not a racist.
The conservative part of the mainstream media (FOX, etc.) is going to take a nasty hit over this one. Then again, as they get nailed so do Republicans.
To say that a latina woman would make better decisions than a white man because of her "inherent physiological differences" is racist, sexist, or both. Those were her words, not Fox's, not the Republicans. Liberals wishing that she hadn't said them will not make them or their meaning go away.
Would sometimes make a better decision based on experienes, not physicial differences. There is a difference. Sotomayor was clearly discussing experiences, not physical characteristics.
She did not refer only to experience, because her own words included physical differences between the races and/or the sexes as well: "..born from experience or inherent physiological or cultural differences...". Inherent physiological differences are physical characteristics.
germanshep999 Wow an educated woman who has risen to the highest offices in the country is a" lowlife".I would love to put your life under the microscope probably really weird stuff.Grow some respect in your trailer park.
Yes, a statement that one person's decisions would be better than another person's because of "...inherent physiological or cultural differences..." not only meets the definition, it is the definition.
Experiences based on ethnicity is anot a pysiological or cultural definition. Further, culture is not race. Race is purely genetic.
I, as a white man, have been the target of racism. I can speak to "reverse racism", if you will, better than Sotomayor can. Does that make me a racist? Nope.
The "inherent physiological differences" between you & the judge are purely genetic. For her to say that she "would more often than not reach a better conclusion" than you because of those inherent physiological differences is racist.
She did not say the difference in her decision-making would be based only on experience; she did not say she would reach decisions that might be merely different than yours.
Although it is already a tired argument, if a white man had used the equivalent words....
just like the firefighters that took an exam to get promoted, the fire district threw out the test because only white people passed the test, they took it to court and she said it was fine and threw out the case, they took it to supreme court and they overruled her. They said that it was reverse racism and unconstitutional. This is the lady we're putting on the supreme court.
If I were a Republican trying to make a point, I'd let that dude testify, but he's been blocked. It's great how all these people bring up bullshit claims of racism instead of going after real shit like this case of her upholding a wrongful rape conviction because of a technicality.
One could argue the Republican party is the white KKK.After all you guys supported GW Bush and his torture of human beings and the illegal fabricated attack on Iraq.
One could argue that only if one were a fucking moron. Robert Byrd is one man. And he ended his affiliation with the KKK more than 50 years ago, and has renounced it ever since. Really persuasive argument, though. Tight.
I'm a Republican. More importantly, I'm an extreme right-wing Christian conservative, and even I say, just let her get confirmed and move on to more important issues. Republicans ought to just drop it. It doesn't even matter. Republicans can't stop her confirmation. Why are they wasting OUR time and money? This is partisan retaliation for all the bull crap Democrats put our appointees through. However, right now, our nation is in an economic crisis and now is not the time for that.
60% of her rulings that have gone to the supreme court have been overturned. and you want to provide her a free ride to the supreme court where she can make those types of un constitutional decisions stick and become law? Go take an american government class so that you better understand the ramifications of people like her getting elected.
I understand the ramifications of GW Bush being elected and his destruction of human life and the economy.BTW when is that little war criminal gonna get interrogated?
Sir Finklebottom Only a Republican who has brain washed by right wing nutjobs would see her as sexist and racist. This whole reverse racism is a total fabrication .
It doesn't matter what race she is. What matters is that she's made racist comments many times before, made racist judgements, and the only evidence counter to that is this statement she's made here which could just be her simply trying to cover her ass and get the job.
What I take from this is that she is no different than a teenage girl depending on which group of friends she is with is who she will tailor her speech for speech after speech she will proclaim Latina over white male but this one apology makes it all ok?? She was telling female and latinos that they were better than the white male lawyers thats racism she claims she was inspiring them to enrich the system so why couldn't she have said that they were as good as white male lawyers??
She is lying! She is a racist. She used the phrase dozens of times and it was not out of context. It WAS the context. Obama has put a racist on the court. It is time for white people to start an organization to protect themselves from racism and discrimination. This is only the beginning of the hatred that white people are going to have to deal with.
now that she clarified the whole wise latina thing the reich-wing republicans will make something else up that is "wrong" with her and pick on that shit. The other day I was reading an article by a republican saying she was bad because she hadn't become rich by investing her salary, proof she didn't understand capitalism (she wasn't rich enough for the job)
Mainstream legal arguments is too broad, you need to narrow that down. Mainstream or not, her ruling was based on personal prejudice because her very reason for the decision was because no minorities made the cut.
It's nothing more than racism. She used this in her stump speeches over a decade or more. she could have said what she just said instead of the "wise latina statement" before
i hope it is racism. I'm tired of uptight fascists like you trying to raise fears about minority groups on the rise. Fuck you and your Nazi, racists ass.
you are an idiot. She did not show any judgment in her many speeches, when she could have made a less controversial and equally "inspiring" one. for your information, my grandchildren are all Hispanic and I'm married to a black person. you are an diot
I am white and I'm not the least bit worried about a hispanic woman talking about the unique wisdom being one provides. you're all a bunch of sour grape-eating, whining little Nazi girls and you should all shut your cunt mouths.
Amazing what happens when she actually gets the opportunity to discuss her comments. Very good defense. I believe her and think she will make a good jurist.
I disagree that the Hartford firefighter ruling was biased. Her ruling, which I disagree with, was within mainstream legal arguments. However, her position is dated and, in ten years, will probably be outside the mainstream.
seems to me that the black firefighters could have passed the exam, if they tried. But now, it has gotten to the point that blacks feel they don't even have to study. One of the things that worries me is if one of those "affirmative actioned" lieutenant firefighters is in charge of putting out a fire and hasn't got a clue.

that statement made by the previous person is so racist and stereotypical. it is NOT true that any ethnic group necessarily has it 'harder' than any other one.
delerium12345 2 years ago 2
Her exact words were "I would hope a wise Latina woman, with the richness of her experiences would, more often than not, reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life"
Now i understand where you are coming from, it is not secret that most latinos have it harder that white Americans, but she has to watch what she says to the media, and not stereotype like that.

I hope she does not get accepted. That's a poor attempt, and she's made poor choices in her cases.
artformeandyou 2 years ago
This woman's race has absolutely nothing to do with why she shouldn't even be a judge, let alone a supreme court nominee... but those who appose her will be called such merely because they do not have to prove it, they only need to make the accusation and their willing accomplices in the media will eat it up and spit it right back out with all the hype and unintelligent illogical drivel they spew minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day, week to week, month to month, year to year...
benjamminzIS 2 years ago
The only thing that will allow her to be appointed to office is the arrogance and indifference, of those who are naive enough to believe her "explanations," even though she has made these types of statements on MULTIPLE occasions and not just once. The spineless "re-pube-licans" will most likely curtail to the pressure from the other side due to being too pussy whipped, by their own power, to stand up for what is right. They are also probably scared of being called "racist" by the other side...
benjamminzIS 2 years ago
Sotomayor,
Beware of Lindsey, he's not your friend, and even if you're glad he likes you, he won't vote for you. Good job,

Backpedaling, BIG TIME!!! Ha ha ha.
She was so proud about her "latina experience" that she repeated the same statement numerous times, not thinking that it would come back and haunt her.
virtual1965 2 years ago 2
The question isn't whether a person of Latino or other ethnicity has the opportunity to become a judge in America. The question was given two judges, one Latino and one not, would she side with the Latino just by virtue of the fact that he/she was Latino. Until she answers that convincingly negative I have to assume the answer is yes.

Context
7jerryv7 2 years ago
The reason why the Republican Party is imploding is they attack everything they see as "liberal". The problem is that Sotomayor is not a racist. You may disagree with her, but she is not a racist.
The conservative part of the mainstream media (FOX, etc.) is going to take a nasty hit over this one. Then again, as they get nailed so do Republicans.
7jerryv7 2 years ago
To say that a latina woman would make better decisions than a white man because of her "inherent physiological differences" is racist, sexist, or both. Those were her words, not Fox's, not the Republicans. Liberals wishing that she hadn't said them will not make them or their meaning go away.
BMan1854 2 years ago
Would sometimes make a better decision based on experienes, not physicial differences. There is a difference. Sotomayor was clearly discussing experiences, not physical characteristics.
7jerryv7 2 years ago
She did not refer only to experience, because her own words included physical differences between the races and/or the sexes as well: "..born from experience or inherent physiological or cultural differences...". Inherent physiological differences are physical characteristics.
BMan1854 2 years ago
Sotomayor. you are a latin racist and are just another one of the low lives that Obama has brought on to work for "Change".

germanshep999 Wow an educated woman who has risen to the highest offices in the country is a" lowlife".I would love to put your life under the microscope probably really weird stuff.Grow some respect in your trailer park.
humaner 2 years ago
She is not racist. Her speeches do not meet the definition
7jerryv7 2 years ago
Yes, a statement that one person's decisions would be better than another person's because of "...inherent physiological or cultural differences..." not only meets the definition, it is the definition.
BMan1854 2 years ago
Experiences based on ethnicity is anot a pysiological or cultural definition. Further, culture is not race. Race is purely genetic.
I, as a white man, have been the target of racism. I can speak to "reverse racism", if you will, better than Sotomayor can. Does that make me a racist? Nope.
7jerryv7 2 years ago
The "inherent physiological differences" between you & the judge are purely genetic. For her to say that she "would more often than not reach a better conclusion" than you because of those inherent physiological differences is racist.
She did not say the difference in her decision-making would be based only on experience; she did not say she would reach decisions that might be merely different than yours.
Although it is already a tired argument, if a white man had used the equivalent words....
BMan1854 2 years ago
reverse racism is a made up term by the left...i am white and i too have been a victim of racism by blacks many times.

just like the firefighters that took an exam to get promoted, the fire district threw out the test because only white people passed the test, they took it to court and she said it was fine and threw out the case, they took it to supreme court and they overruled her.

One could argue that only if one were a fucking moron. Robert Byrd is one man. And he ended his affiliation with the KKK more than 50 years ago, and has renounced it ever since. Really persuasive argument, though. Tight.

Like voting against the 1964 civil rights act which was, gee, less than 50 years ago. Still a democrat, still a racist.
becerra215 2 years ago
I'm a Republican. More importantly, I'm an extreme right-wing Christian conservative, and even I say, just let her get confirmed and move on to more important issues. Republicans ought to just drop it. It doesn't even matter. Republicans can't stop her confirmation. Why are they wasting OUR time and money? This is partisan retaliation for all the bull crap Democrats put our appointees through. However, right now, our nation is in an economic crisis and now is not the time for that.
johms24 2 years ago
60% of her rulings that have gone to the supreme court have been overturned. and you want to provide her a free ride to the supreme court where she can make those types of un constitutional decisions stick and become law? Go take an american government class so that you better understand the ramifications of people like her getting elected.

SirFinklebottom 2 years ago 2
Sir Finklebottom Only a Republican who has brain washed by right wing nutjobs would see her as sexist and racist. This whole reverse racism is a total fabrication .
humaner 2 years ago
Have you seen her comment? Try changing the words "Latino" and "woman", with "white" and "man", and then see who's got brainwashed prejudice issues.
and FYI, I'm not a Republican.
SirFinklebottom 2 years ago
She is Latino..so what!!!.Republicans created this race argument and it fails just like Sarah Palin.
humaner 2 years ago
It doesn't matter what race she is. What matters is that she's made racist comments many times before, made racist judgements, and the only evidence counter to that is this statement she's made here which could just be her simply trying to cover her ass and get the job.
SirFinklebottom 2 years ago
I think her comments are taken out of context and she did a good job clearing them up.Get a life.
humaner 2 years ago
Yeah, humaner's message to anyone who cares about racism: "Get a life"
Nice. Bye.
SirFinklebottom 2 years ago
What I take from this is that she is no different than a teenage girl depending on which group of friends she is with is who she will tailor her speech for speech after speech she will proclaim Latina over white male but this one apology makes it all ok?? She was telling female and latinos that they were better than the white male lawyers thats racism she claims she was inspiring them to enrich the system so why couldn't she have said that they were as good as white male lawyers??
wavesinthebackgroud 2 years ago
She is lying! She is a racist. She used the phrase dozens of times and it was not out of context. It WAS the context. Obama has put a racist on the court. It is time for white people to start an organization to protect themselves from racism and discrimination. This is only the beginning of the hatred that white people are going to have to deal with.
jmark2001 2 years ago
Hatred that white people are going to have to deal with bwaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhha what a little gross scare tactic.

now that she clarified the whole wise latina thing the reich-wing republicans will make something else up that is "wrong" with her and pick on that shit.

7jerryv7 2 years ago
But her ruling on the New Haven firefighter promotion test results was clearly biased.
EUROTRASHSPAMMER 2 years ago
I disagree that the Hartford firefighter ruling was biased. Her ruling, which I disagree with, was within mainstream legal arguments. However, her position is dated and, in ten years, will probably be outside the mainstream.
7jerryv7 2 years ago
Well, at any rate, her New Haven ruling was promptly overturned by the US Supreme court.

No, it's because the court is presently made up of three liberal and four conservative jurists.
EUROTRASHSPAMMER 2 years ago
seems to me that the black firefighters could have passed the exam, if they tried. But now, it has gotten to the point that blacks feel they don't even have to study. One of the things that worries me is if one of those "affirmative actioned" lieutenant firefighters is in charge of putting out a fire and hasn't got a clue.
