It is true that this is considered suicide under the name of the lord. But, Jesus Christ did say "do not judge upon others." The reason is why we cant judge is because we are human and we are not a God to judge upon others. In this case I can say the same because they are human just like you and I. There decisions should be honored whether they are right or wrong as long as their decisions doesn't condemn those around him or her.
Haven t you heard about Jesus Christ?? He is our Saviour! Believe in Him and take him as your saviour and death won t ever be something to be afraid of. Our lifes will have a purpouse. There isn t any humanity and courage in assisted death, just fear and cowardice from suffering. Assisted death is suicide, and you take something that you can t give, a life!
i cant wrap my head around what ive just watched! im not here to say its right or wrong but it does say something that someone is able to make that choice and to have a spouse support that choice is simply AMAZING and selfless..i dont think I could do it myself
there is something so beautiful and yet sad about this...its a real eye opener and I really believe deep down that people should have the right/choice to die...its really not fair to make someone suffer in their last days because there is a chance that a cure might be found for what u have...its just NOT right...
~my grandfather had a stroke and suffered quite alot of pain and mental stress following in the hospital and care home...he had trouble breathing, he died this year, in the night.
@TheAndroidNerd I'm sorry for your loss but I hope your Grand-Dad was asleep and having a beautiful dream at that moment. What a wonderful way to leave.
with many different illnesses and cancers and it's heart breaking. I also sat by my uncle's bed side as I watched him die and struggle to breahe from the cancer that was plaguing him. Not a pretty site. He didn't wanna go out in a cloud of drugs but ended up doing so anyway because the pain of the cancer was so much he was stuck on pain meds to feel any kind of relief to get through the day. I hope to one day have this as an option.
This was a good movie! Thanks for sharing. Personally I hope that if I ever end up in a bad situation as these people that I would have at least the option. Weather I would end up doing it depends on how much pain I'm in emotionally and physically, but one thing I do know is that if I ever became a prisoner of my own mind or body then I want out and I think others should have the option to do so. I see so many people suffering at my work. I work at a hospital so I see many different people

@Lyn7721 Obviously you can disagree, but I don't want to have to preface everything I say with, "In my personal opinion." That should go without saying.
What would have to happen to "satisfy" me? The recognition of what is going on. Don't dress it up in words like "noble" and "dignity" to make yourself feel better. It's a horrible thing to be driven to. It's despairing of life. And the actual process is not without its physical indignities either.
@Lyn7721 At the furthest stretch nobody can say anything regarding appearances is FACT. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Nevertheless, words have definitions. And if you say Mr. Smedley's death was "dignified," then "dignified" and "pitiable" have become the same word.
The same with "wonderful." A man killing himself before his life becomes unbearable is not a "happy occasion."
@Lyn7721 I disagree with Terry Pratchett. The very things we're talking about preclude assisted suicide as being "wonderful." This doesn't mean I'm against it. I have deep sympathy for the people that choose this path. But it's neither "wonderful" nor "dignified."
@Lyn7721 And yes, it does. Try as you might, you can't say that someone's last act as a plea for water and drooling is "dignified." Obviously not every death will involve pleas for water, but you see such things elsewhere: a Frenchwoman who says, "If I begin to look bad, turn off the cameras." And indeed, the screen fades to black before she's gone. It's the desire for a death to APPEAR dignified when they know it isn't.
@Lyn7721 The fact is, if it comes to that, it's not a noble act, because you're not "sparing anyone." You're just leaving your selfish, asshole family.
@Lyn7721 I want it to be romanticized? I'm not the one trying to call it, "Death with Dignity."
I'm not going to get into whether it's actually a noble act or not, because there are too many factors to consider. On one hand you're sparing your family. But if your family actually wants to take care of you, then you're just doing it for yourself. But then is it selfish for your family to ask you to suffer? But then do you love yourself more than your family? I just can't say.
@Lyn7721 I didn't say the other way to go was "better." I'm just saying that, for me, begging for water as you die, a death that also appears to involve drooling, is not what I'd call "dignified."
Again, do it if you want. I understand. But don't try and make it out to be some sort of romantic, humanist, noble act.
I understand the right to die. I understand it as an escape from a life without hope. I understand.
But don't call this dignified. This man's last act was a choking plea for water, which was denied to him, while being held the arms, not of his wife, but of the stranger who gave him the poison. Do it if you will. I sympathize with you. But don't call it dignified.
...The only thing better would be if she could have told us explicitly what she wanted & when she was ready. ....There are very dignified ways human cultures can create a similar experience for humans, and we should!
I rescued my severely abused dog when she was a year old & we had 12.5 very happy years together. My friend felt her as a soulmate also....so when she got an aggressive cancer we knew her time was coming & about 6 months later, we/she woke up 1 morning & she couldn’t stand & would not eat or drink & we knew the time had come & we went to the vet very tearfully & joyfully & she/we had a beautiful, peaceful death.
Terminal illness is 1 thing but Dignitas and the swiss take this right to die to the extreme. We live in a world that has gone crazy about our rights. If someone is not terminal then we have a responsibility to find another way.
@12from121 What the hell would you know? You might "live in a world that has gone crazy" but I live in a world of chronic severe disabling pain that is inoperable & causes me to suffer agony 24/7 despite heavy duty prescription narcotics.I have had this since 1996. When I saw that glass of poison I wanted to drink it so badly.I have people who love me & want me to live & no money to go to Switzerland. I pray & dearly wish that Australia would allow assisted suicide. It is so hard to live this way.
@darkallegiance666 I know more than you think so ease up on the assumptions. The problem with the Swiss system is they are killing all sorts. Like yourself I have acccess to narcotics so use your brain. If you want to die you have the means, rather then asking for someone to assist you. My life is very hard I am in a wheelchair, in pain and no family. But death will come when it comes.
@12from121 "Death will come when it comes"? No shit!! But given the apparent ease & certainty of assisted suicide I would appreciate access to that sort of poison as overdosing on narcotics is not a lot of fun & not infallible. You shouldn't assume that because you want to live, everybody should. There is no illness that can't be cured with death, however I respect the decision to live, as I would respect the decision to die.
@darkallegiance666 Assisted suicide is not fullproof and personally I would choose a morphine overdose anyday to this method. You have the right to die but we as a society have the responsibility to try and offer you other options. I am not using my disability to preach and I think it is a tad unfair for you to assume I am when I say I respect your right to choose. But you are ill, the Swiss will kill you if you are weary of life.
@12from121 I have no respect for the opinion of one who uses their disability as a pedestal from which to look down and preach to others. Is the only point of view you can understand your own?
@darkallegiance666 Assumptions galore. Stop assuming without the evidence to back it up. In a perfect world I agree with assisted suicide and I do think you have the right to die. I think the current Swiss system is a problem though as it doesn't take much to get approval. Some people choose death because they believe that no other options are open, if they were give access to other options then death is not always the right answer. I am not preaching and I respect others opinions.
Uh-huh... You attempt to deflate me by repeatedly accusing me of making assumptions, despite this being an environment which almost necessitates it? It doesn't devalue my observations one jot, even if you absolve yourself of any culpability.
@12from121 An undue severity is placed on death. Assisted suicide is an option that too few have access to. This is an abysmal cruelty and injustice. If my criticism was misplaced, I apologise, but the swiss give their people a type of freedom that so-called 'free countries' mercilessly smother, and you would condemn them for it? My assumption is that you are very confused.
Bravo Gentlemen, for your individual decision and how they've been respected. I understand that if you follow the lethal beverage with some clear juice, then the chocolate (to counter the bitterness of the drug), it is more of just drifting off...
This is a great lesson of humanity, courage, acceptance and support. Hopefully this documentary will open the eyes of many people, and hopefully it will change the way of thinking about this decisions and procedures in many other countries, because everyone should have the right to end life with dignity. Thank you for uploading it :)

Any judgment is just us projecting our fear and concern about death.
I'm not judging, I'm not even saying I understand it. I am healthy and young.
I essentially respect it as it's such a personal decision.
I just feel incredibly bad and sad watching it.
That's it.
