dubstep is a mix of so many things, just listen to it and you will pick out different genres.

a lot of grime in there, dub etc

but you have your big party dubstep and then you have your dark chilled out dubstep and both have a different feel.

No. It originates from London (you can argue this if you want, whoever sees this) and some comes from Garage, Jungle, Reggae, Breakbeat and Drum and Bass is where a lot of the artists cross over, Eg Nero, Chase and Status. Although a lot of dubstep producers like to do mixes with Hip Hop in their songs, it is definitely not a derivative of hip hop. Hope this helps.

Dubstep doesn't come directly from anything, but mostly it originates (and borrows from) from things like garage 2-step, hip-hop, dnb, jungle, break, etc. If you compare a lot of dubstep to a lot of old-school hip-hop you'll see how heavy the influence is.
