@Mr101beers In a frontline of 14 km, 3500 italian para fought against 50.000 british soldiers. The allies with 400 pieces of artillery, 350 tanks and 400 armoured fighting vehicle, couldn't break through the front line. This is one of the many episodes showing the bravery of italian soldiers. Had we had 1/100 of your equipment history would have been different.
@Caleidus In Operation compass there was 200 000 Italian soldiers vs 36 000 British soldiers. Operation Compass ended to succesful victory of UK, 115 000 Italian soldiers surrendered.

Italians discovered they had no weapons capable of dealing with the slow moving but heavily armoured British Matilda ‘infantry’ tank. There was no lack of bravery on the part of the Italians. The British Royal Navy was also to participate in the operation by bombarding Sidi Barrani, italians didn't have navy support. Brits got fast moving jeeps with heavy guns on them, italians only feet.

WWI was an history of attack and counter attack and italians didn't make any exception. The North Vietnamese were not a bunch of peasants but dedicated freedom fighters who had fought the Japanese, and then the French and then the Americans. The Americans were wealthy and used their wealth to build 100's of ships, 100,000;s of trucks, 10,000's of tanks and planes. They threw a000's of B-17 and lost Over 160'000 Allied airmen were lost in the western air offensive. This is what tipped the scales. The Soviets used what they had-manpower. The Allies production of very expensive planes.

@morteodio91 not really. When Hitler invaded Russia, he didn't really ask Mussolini for help. Mussolini offered it voluntarily, thinking Hitler would have won and he could get some of the spoils. Bad mistake. Around 100,000 Italian soldiers died or were imprisoned in Russia.

Our problem was Mussolini's ego. A great leader, but il Duce would not listen to the facts. We should have waited in re-building the empire to at least 1942. However, he didn't want to listen. The Italian and German people is being involve in war from many years, they had the most powerful states in Europe, guess why they were the last two countries to unify in Europe? The big difference was that Germany was going down and Italy up, they(leaders) have no other alternative that joint the people into something, lies and war while Italians knew they needed no war, just a Fascist state, of course things went wrong and Mussolini's ego was way of reality.
The italian army was a bad joke almost everywhere it went during Second World War. Basically it was not the war of the itlalian people. It was the war of a miserable political leadership. At least the italian army avoided most of the crimes the german army did.

We fought against England, France , USA and Russia. And at the End of the war, the front were on the terretory of France in the west and Russia in the east. 1940 in France : in order to split the French forces Hitler asked Mussolini to attack in South . So Italians took their trumpets and lost at a rate of 6 to 1. It was a record. And who could beat that? Italians of course, in Africa 9 to 1. Making noise in a piazza doesn't mean combat training.

@mrvantuber I disagree with you about the poor weaponry. Italian tanks were indeed very poor but the weapons with which the basic infantry man fought with were very good. The Carcano rifle rated number 5 on the list of most accurate battle rifles of WW2. The Beretta M38 Machine gun was EXCELLENT. The Germans and Allies coveted them if they could get their hands on them. Same goes for the Beretta M34/35 hand gun. Even their heavy machine guns were quite good.

WWI was an history of attack and counter attack and italians didn't make any exception. We were so demotivated that the supreme comand ordered the official to stop partecipating to the assaults considering the high mortality rate among the higher ranks. @Mr101beers Actually its the Americans,there army failed to take over Cuba in the failed Bay Of Pigs disaster,They dropped more bombs on Vietnam than WWII,had a full army there & got their asses wiped by a bunch of peasants,In Korea they got driven right back to seoul & couldn^t advance despite their Air power . In wwII they did D-Day in June of 44 when it was clear the Red Army was winning the war & advancing to Berlin(80% of nazi caualties were inflicted from red Army)

The North Vietnamese were not a bunch of peasants but dedicated freedom fighters who had fought the Japanese, and then the French and then the Americans. The English and American air offensive turned the tide in the Soviets favor. The Americans were wealthy and used their wealth to build 100's of ships, 100,000;s of trucks, 10,000's of tanks and planes. They threw a000's of B-17 and lost Over 160'000 Allied airmen were lost in the western air offensive. This is what tipped the scales. The Soviets used what they had-manpower. The Allies production of very expensive planes.

@morteodio91 not really. When Hitler invaded Russia, he didn't really ask Mussolini for help. Mussolini offered it voluntarily, thinking Hitler would have won and he could get some of the spoils. Bad mistake. Around 100,000 Italian soldiers died or were imprisoned in Russia.

The italians certainly gave British & American pilots a hard time in the Mediterranean skies, despite outdated planes & being out-numbered. Italians are of Roman stock, some of the bravest & fiercest peoples in ancient history.

I don't mean any offense to you or your military knowlefge, but their Airforce (Regia Aeronautica) was the 4th best in the war!
They had some of the fasted planes, and they were adequately armed.
The did lack in most other fields though.

@mrvantuber I disagree with you about the poor weaponry. Italian tanks were indeed very poor but the weapons with which the basic infantry man fought with were very good. The Carcano rifle rated number 5 on the list of most accurate battle rifles of WW2. The Beretta M38 Machine gun was EXCELLENT. The Germans and Allies coveted them if they could get their hands on them. Same goes for the Beretta M34/35 hand gun. Even their heavy machine guns were quite good.

Churcil. now abandoned by their "German friends." Italians have shown impressive courage against an impossible victory. and were the only ones to have "the honors of arms" in Africa by the British. Italian soldiers have earned them the respect by British soldiers.
