I was at the Fillmore East that night. I was there when this was being recorded. I was on a date with Carol Oppenheimer from the Bronx. Ah! What ever became of Carol!?
dude, this is THE one. my eyes are all hot from this. wow. shit man. i'm 4 minutes into it, and i'm cryin. i'm savin this one. good year, favorite place...sweet music...thank God.
no, the only video ever taken of D&D (at least that survived until today) is the video of them on the Johnny Cash Show, playing "It's Too Late" and "Matchbox" with Carl Perkins.
What a band that was: Duane Allman (not present here) dead; Carl Radle dead; Jim Gordon (excellent drumming) in prison for life for killing his mother. Bobby Whitlock still alive but not doing much. Only Clapton still standing, larger than life.
Whitlock has released a few more albums recently with Coco Caramel including new versiions of
layla
why does love got to be so sad
bell bottom blues
and Gordan is now self admitted in a psych ward. heavy on medication to control the schizophrenia that led him to kil his own mother. Derek and the Dominos. Rocks greatest tragedy
Actually, it was recorded during the Layla sessions, 8 days before Hendrix died and later included on the album as tribute--kind of freaked the band out at the time--Great group, but a heck of a lot of bad mojo surrounded them.
Totally amazing. He did this with Steve Winwood at MSG last month and blew the roof off!!!! He is truly a gifted artist. If God played the guitar, he'd be called Clapton!!!!
That's funny. . .a lot of bridges used to feature those very words in the late '60s and early '70s. "Clapton is God". I remember them well. College kids were fond of writing on bridges . . they're other favorite slogan of the day was even more poignant: "Dick Nixon before Nixon Dicks you"
Wow! This is a truely great song. I loved the original, I loved Sting's version and this one is very cool. Jimi's song writing ability has not been fully recognised.
I think his songwriting ability is recognized by some people. But yeah, Hendrix gets a lot of credit for his playing, which can actually be sloppy at times. But not the writing, which is usually genius. Few people do straight blues anymore, its always blues-rock. Jimi was a real legend. Just like many, he was stolen from us too early. Imagine what he would be writing today!

I'm assuming that this is a heartfelt tribute to Jimi. This is only about a month after Jimi died. This is beautiful.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Nah i like Hendrix better, Claptons too soft, he shoudl have stuck to Layla, White Room, and Crossroads and left Jimi Alone tbh.
nauselom 3 years ago
I consider it a personal tribute. He was prety close to him when he died. Plus, prety much evrything Clapton touches is gold anyway
sterlingsir 3 years ago 2
hahaha...Clapton too soft. ok then.

Clapton saw hendrix the night he died and had bought him a left handed strat (one of the first).
JimmyPageFan360 3 years ago
alas, never had the chance to give him that left handed strat because he never was able to personally see hendrix that night.
