If he is anything like my dad he probably bought you that b/c he knew it would last years therefore lowering the amount of time he would need to spend at a store in the future. My dad hates stores. Even grocery stores. He would rather just have someone go get him things and eat out at restaurants. LOL!
love the boots & trench coat! i wish i could wear riding boots... my calves are too thick so i tend to get ankle boots. the trench coat is classic! if you watch Bones, Emily Deschanel's character wears trench coats all the time... they are just so pretty and go with everything! and you're right... in TX, you just need to layer during the fall/winter months. that's what i did when i lived in Houston (and still do in Dallas).
@prettydaysies Thank you. My sister has large calves. Heck she has got the nicest most shapely legs ever. I admire them all the time. My legs are not small, but they are certainly not shapely! You are lucky. I know that it is frustrating though to shop for boots that fit though, since I have watched her go through it. Layering is certainly key here in Texas.

@MsGnette LOL, thank you. I know growing up when it was time to shop for clothing I would always get 2 or 3 pairs of shoes at a time, since I would need a black pair and a brown pair. My dad would always tell me that I was lucky he could get me more than one at a time. I never understood that, to me it just made sense to me to have two pairs. But now I get it. They were both realistically priced boots, but combined hurt a little.
