Mosquitoes feed exclusively on nectar. The male ones will never bite you. It is the female mosquito who needs a "blood meal" to get the iron and protein to make and lay eggs. These insects live for about two weeks, so yea, if you get bitten it's cause someone wanted to make babies with you. Ah the fun things you learn at the local garden club, where we could never get rid of those "skeeters" because of the flowery nectar.

@iwaswithyourmum Lol for the record, this all started because the guy mentioned that his gf was not in the mood anymore because of mosquitoes. All I wanted to mention was that only female mosquitoes bite for reproductive purposes. Therefore, the male and female mosquitoes get to feed on nectar and the females have to go the extra mile to bite..ponies for example, to get iron and protein from blood to make new eggs and larvae. Fun with science and I'm respectfully ending this.
