  • the gold coast in the 80s what a great place and time

live bands beer gardens now days full of schoolies and dance music

  • They sound like they were influenced by the Police in this song

  • hey!

  • the gold coast has changed so much

  • @oneeyedstar ummm James Reyne is one of those foreigners, he is from nigeria.

  • @Kbillyssupersounds87 The goldie before ya bastards ruined it!

  • The video has virually nothing to do with the lyrics. Errol was not a man to look up to and died relatively young. Took the wrong side in WW2.

  • @millertas Spot on. To the fallen.

  • @millertas Errol's alcoholism is certainly nothing to look up to. I haven't previously heard anything about him taking the wrong side in World War 2. I like the song but don't really take it very seriously.

  • @DwiteTheSpriteKnight He (like King Edward just before his abdication) supported Adolf Hitler but yes I don't take it seriously, just saying I don't want to be like him.

  • @millertas Well that's certainly the perfect reason to not want to be like Errol. I can't say that I'd like to be an alcoholic womaniser and NAZI sympathiser either. It's not the kind of thing one would want on their resume is it. He was so desperate for alcohol that he'd smuggle it on to the set by injecting vodka into oranges, or so the story goes.

  • @DwiteTheSpriteKnight Didn't know the story about injecting vodka into oranges (rather funny actually). While he expounded a "bad boy" image he couldn't have carried it too long. He died early and using an old blondie song he "died young and stayed pretty".

  • @DwiteTheSpriteKnight LOL the Nazi thing is unfounded and there is more evidence against it than there is for it, that being ZERO!

  • @deamon202 Okay then, it would be the perfect reason not to be like Errol, besides being a drug addict male slut, if it were true. If you've researched it properly well done.

  • Image ruined quality music...well something did

  • Before the country was overun by ungratefull foreigners!

  • @oneeyedstar As a young man then believe me there were people complaining about "foreigners", Foreigners (I assume you mean migrants) have given more than taken away. I suppose your pinup lady is Pauline Hanson (LOL).

  • This was shot on the Gold Coast right. So is that the water slide that used to be in Grundys in Cavel Ave anybody?

  • @jimmygun79 Yep! That water slide was at Grundys!

  • The women look hot in this video but I wouldn't want to see them in bikinis NOW in 2011. Lol

  • muito bommmmmmmmmmmm\o/

  • adoro essa musica e eles sao lindos

  • My Finnish girlfriend loves this, even after my long winded stories of how good aus/nz music was circa 1977-84. Sweet

  • cool band

  • I just want to live my life as a yobbo. I am a simple guy and I aim for a simple life. Just bbqs, beer , hot chicks, beer gardens, 80s rock and pizza deliveries. Thats all i want and thats all I aim for in life..... because quite frankly the rest is bullshit.

  • @Stealthkeys77 ...and as much as yobbo's could really shit me sometimes back then, they had their good points, and I wish that was all we had to contend with here! As opposed to the nightmare that is unfolding for Australia now! This song is golden, on so many levels, and from a golden age!

  • @Stealthkeys77

Yes, forwarding social progress and advancing medicinal science is definitely 'bullshit'. (Rolls eyes).

  • @Stealthkeys77 Astra Wally is a super fun fink, fink, fink, super fun fink.

  • @Stealthkeys77 YES. why weren`t you greeting Obama 2 weeks ago as our leader?

  • @Stealthkeys77 Fucking legend

  • @Stealthkeys77 i'm in love... ;p

  • @Stealthkeys77 as long as you are green and dont polute, smoke and eat clean like vegetables occasionally, you are okay. sustainable so the next generation can do it too.

  • Awesome song, with hot women in the vid clip; Australian Crawl are simply the best.

  • Comment removed

  • I love this song.

  • Thge song is about errol flynn aussie actor that made it big in hollywood many yeras ago.Listen to the words its his life story

  • U know why this is the best aussie crawl song because that bloody James Reyne didnt sing in it, and also one of the only aussie crawl songs u can understand.

  • @The18Angus Ur right i can actually sing along to this because i can understand it. No disrespect to James but seriously who the hell understands what he sings???

  • Gotta love the New Hebrides T-shirt at 0.24...

  • Back then they looked so old to me,now they look so young..Go Aussie Crawl and Aussie music .!!!!

  • I remember the gold coast when this clip was made ....... the water slides at grundies now where cavil mall is. those were the days ...... still see james reyne whenever he tours.

  • Absolute fucking legends...the band....and Errol.

  • named my first son errol after this song.....now in canada watching you tube vids love it ....

  • This is what I want to do with my life. I dont care if people call me a yobbo or whatever. I just want a basic life. I just want to hang out with me mates. Get smashed on grog, eat meat pies, have fish n' chips. Go pub crawling on weekends. Perve at some hot chicks. What else do ya want?! Really ..... life could be so easy. Just trawl the beer gardens, have bbqs, listen to James Reyne, ACDC and Cold Chisel. Any other "yobbos" out there who want to join me? Be my guest !

  • @Kbillyssupersounds87 then don't watch this one mate

  • in memory of dave lyall... party hard m8

  • RIP Guy, such beautiful talent taken away much too early..

  • @JeckyllJeckyllHyde try looking for Guy McDonough 'Memory' on YouTube, from Nigel Spencer. It was from Guy's 'My Place' album, that his brother Bill organized to be produced after Guy's death. Seriously, you wouldn't even recognize the voice and would hear a remarkable talent in Guy's vocals.

  • this film clips shows the surfers paradise i love and miss. with the waterslides!

  • HOW can such an AMAZING song have such a low amount of views

  • one of the top songs of all TIME!!!!

  • @Kbillyssupersounds87 Like the Alternate Clip to Duran Duran's "Girls on Film" Clip? :)

  • Is it just me or is the girl at 1:43 missing her tits

  • I used to think he was saying "Ooooooh Railroad. I would do anything, just to be like it."

  • @sammosammy

that comment made really laugh out LOUD, thank you , i needed it....ive had so many similar moments....

  • @Kbillyssupersounds87 lol, thanx... i just watched it... more girlies in this clip!

  • @nzoz1981 thats so a good thing ^_^ lol

  • @Kbillyssupersounds87 please tell me what it looks like... i would love to see it!

  • Love you, Aus Crawl! x

  • Love you, Aus Crawl! x

  • Gotta love this tune , i had that beat t shirt

  • fuck............fuck...

  • How stoned is Reyne in this clip?? Guess he thought cos he didn't have to mime it didn't matter? Awesome.

  • This song inspires me!

    Cheers from Brazil

  • @MrPeterdeeter100, say goodnight johnboy

  • Are those Water skiing shots from Cable ski world? I miss that place. To me the gold coast went down a few notches after that closed

  • Classic song. Love the happy vibe and 'good times' music clip.

  • the guitar solo is awesome. so concise!

  • @pselodux Thank you. It seems that only now people are noticing how much thought went into creating solos that were exciting, memorable but didn't get in the way of the vocals. They weren't actually solos. Each one was very carefully composed and played pretty much the same every night. Most of the more simple parts have been played verbatim by successive guitarists James has had over the years. They usually avoid the fast parts but most others are still played note for note.

  • @SJBinks Take a bow S J Binks - still sounds so good 30 years later. Keep listening to unpublsihed critics too and the riffs in that are as good as there is. Is there a biography on Guy? He is a fascinatingly brilliant musician (you're not too bad yourself) Wolud be a great read.

  • GLORIOUS AND TIMELESS EPIC OZ ROCK FOREVA!!!!!

  • People Please... Were here for a fucking gr8 time not a long time... whats the use of bitchin about FUCK ALL is all i'm saying

  • summertime is everything

  • Such a great song, among many, from a golden time! A great tribute to a true Australian hero!

  • 30 years..or can I not count?

  • Who? what? why? Cool track...

  • Probably my fave enjoy song.........always there to make me smile....XXX Thanks from England......

  • @429cuinTbird Oh that was me!!!!!!!

  • Aussie crawl an Aussie icon

  • My favorite band forever

    Great 80's

  • this is quality

  • One if the best feel good songs ever written

  • Great song and yes another member of the band, I think the guy pretending to sing the song, the smaller guy, (sorry don't know his name) died I believe of melanoma! Sad end to a terrific band.

  • amei a música ;-D

  • This video is about having an awesome time, not showing off. It probably isn't too hard to rent a hotel room with a spa for a short time and a boat for jet skiiing. As scottclements78 said, it is today's videos where people are wankers and show offs. Australian Crawl basically had the right idea and execution for this vid :)

  • classic track and awesome solo. reminds me of my dad

  • also the old grundys water slide in surfers.wow i'm having flash backs..........surfs up

  • some nice looking gold coast girls in there from back in the good old times

  • This video proves that Surfers was not always a seething hole.

  • This video to proved to a doubter that Cavill Avenue used to have a water slide attached to the Grundies before the mini golf replaced it. Looks like the boys were staying at the Beachcomber as well. Gold Coast in the early to mid 80s was an awesome place with so many great Aussie bands flying the flag. Great Keppel Island also went off in the 80s. Australia now severely lacks the fun party spots, with Surfers now having to endure all the crap that goes down with Schoolies

  • Totally surf music from teh 80's :)

  • lol good luck to em. you wouldnt be writing comments if you were in there position. strive to be like it. :)

  • i love thr time its set in. beddy well played, bedddy clean

  • The Girls in this video are of a good sort, God bless Australia.

  • Was Guy gay?, just asking, he died of a complication very common with aids

  • @folkard84 no dude, not gay and it wasn't AIDS related.

  • @folkard84 Guy passed away of viral pneumonia, nothing to do with AIDS.

  • aussie crawl at the domain in sydney woo hoo.what an eighties day .go aussie

  • GOLD

  • Hello ... They weren't showing off, Just pretending to be errol

  • I like how this video is all about good normal fun stuff that we all can do (if not at work). You see the crap on TV now and every film clip is either showing you rich wankers driving supercars owning multi million dollar homes or gangster dickheads going on about how they are better than you. This clip just shows the good life that we can all enjoy without either being a millionaire or a king pin drug dealer. Now I wanna go surfing.

  • @scottclements78 the idea of this clip is very good - until you see the rich million dollar homies and the gangster dickheads doing exactly the same thing in their videos. It's always best to face the facts - and this is no disrespect to Simon Binks - but Australian Crawl were the rich boys of Australian rock, who were pretty much showing off just how good they had it at the time (prior the death of singer Guy and guitarist Brad).

  • @nzoz1981 but aren't they saying that Errol had it all and just showing that off?

  • @Cunningham00 that's what I always thought the clip demonstrated... I think it was a rather daring clip to make at the time...

  • @Cunningham00 Wouldn't you? I live on the not so sunny south coast of the UK. I'd swap tomorrow!!!!!

  • @Cunningham00 yes.... but no..... it was also trying to understand how he turned out to be gay and understanding how to cope with it

  • @efox65 Who was gay? It's hard to know who is quoting what and where it all began but I can assure you that Guy was not gay. People used to think Brad and I were gay as we were so close, shared a room, giggled and played practical jokes on each other all the time but that was just school-boy humour that had been going on for years. Nobody in the band was gay. Brad and I were just the best of friends taking Peninsula Grammar on the road where we were duelling head masters.

  • @nzoz1981 interesting that they have the song beautiful people tho, what do you make of the lyrics? coming from the rich boys of oz rock?

  • @nzoz1981 The "Seaview" Champagne they're drinking in the Spa is dirt cheap, not exactly Cristal Champers :)

  • @nzoz1981 I was on an up then...thanks dude.Ruin my life why don't ya?

  • @nzoz1981 I love that this is shot in Surfers Paradise and features the old waterslide at Grundys.

  • @nzoz1981 i don't usually do this but lets fight!

  • @Getoutofhiswayman you're coming on to me!

  • @nzoz1981 funny fuckers!! rofl

  • @nzoz1981 they actually mocked it... take another listen/look.

  • Comment removed

  • @scottclements78 What a fukken GREAT comment. We've got it all in Oz. Surf's up.

    Peace.

  • @scottclements78 see-"Beutiful people"-see Sydney in the 80's.

The singer of this song was gay and died of eumonia related illness, very sad to lose such a talent.

  • @scottclements78 AMEN to that!!! where did all the simple times and simple pleasures of living go???

  • @scottclements78,

I don't wanna start any fights or anything, but I'm 98% sure that this is the message. The song starts "Apple Isle, Inbred Smile" - Tassie right? Errol Flynn - Tasmanian right? What's Errol's claim to fame? Being hung like a donkey and tapp'n' 3/4's of the babes in Hollywood. THAT'S WHAT THIS SONG IS ABOUT! Oh Errol, I'd do anything just to be like him.

  • @112358mike yeah true, but he could also act. and he died a tragic death the poor bastard. and australia forgot him.

  • @112358mike No, afraid not. They were just casual, common references one makes when filling out a song's lyrics. The song was about the great life Flynn lead and how we envied him. It was a tribute to him, not a criticism of him or of Tasmania. Yes, part of the envy was his reputation with the female of the species but that was not a criticism. Simon Binks. (I was there - we discussed it)

  • @scottclements78 surfing i wanna jump in that spa :P

  • @scottclements78 yeah im sure its normal for you to wake up in bed with 15 random girls. its a low budget video... fack off with your skewed shit.

  • @Tonyokay87 Hey Tonyokay87, you must be lost? Try typing in "MC Hammer" or "Eminem" and you might find what your looking for.

  • and he did release his own album before he passed away

  • Gee the gold coast sky line looks a little different these days

  • He died of pneumonia in hospital not a car accident... remember it like it was yesterday

  • Very happy song there. Simple, unpretentious and well-meaning.

  • Great group!

  • Love this song, just for the simple fact that he mentions my little country.

  • i love it sub me

  • classic song

  • wow. back when the GC was a nice place to be.

  • God Damn! I'm so sad I missed the eighties, Aussie Crawl were ten times better than INXS, and they were brilliant. Listen to Reckless, and you will understand.

  • 4 people don't like this? 4 people who need to buy surfboards.

  • Everytime I tell an aussie my name they always sing this afterwards

  • urgent: does anyone know where I can listen to the re recorded version of this song from the Semantics LP (not EP)....or even better, where can i listen to or download the Semantics LP.

  • top song lovin it!!!

  • oh such bad fasion... I love it :3

  • can't believe this is nearly 30 years old it hasn't aged a bit

  • This song reminds me of a great time in my life. At that time in 1981 I was a pom on one of those "working holidays" .The sunday session at the Sarborough Hotel in Perth and later in the day onto the White Sands, come on Perth people who remembers those days?

  • The Scarborough ?And the Cott and the OBH too.Aaaah the good old days....

  • The Amazing Elizabeth Chapman is in this film clip. My Beautiful mum! Who lived life to the very fullest! xoxo

  • @saschachapman Which one is your Mum?

  • @Paulsboots It's probably just a troll mate, the person has made the profile just to say this comment just to get thumbs up i'm assuming.

  • i allways loved australian crawl music and all of rock australian bands

  • Until now, 2010, i still listening this song in my car. Is amazing play this song while i drive my car choose the best place to get a surf.

  • @ricardodada ..... Too right Vegemite :-)

  • love you Guy!

    always loved this song.

I'll meet you up north sometime!

    Regards

    Guy

  • This vid has always seemed to me like a perfect Australian tourism ad. Tell me you don't want to migrate right now!

  • Such a great tune. Love it.

  • pretty mad vid good classics

  • gr8 numero.

  • I love this clip, but it's always a bit sad, as Guy McDonough (the guy singing this song) was killed in a car accident in 84. Love it though.

  • It wasn't a car accident that killed him. He died of viral pneumonia.

  • @nzoz1981 from aids

  • at 0.23., those running shorts, totally normal back then, now probably thought of as poofy

  • What the hell happened to music?? Now it's all pepsi-cola-look at the size of my McDonalds hamburger-press this button and the drums start-festy refried turlte shit!!

  • my favourite aussie song EVER. coolest clip too, mullets in the surf :D

  • aussie crawl, cold chisel,,,,australian classic tragics,,,,how the hell come niether of them break the US market and thus be unducted into the realms of the father, the son and the holy ghost??

  • If poker machines weren't in pubs we might still have a music scene.. Maybe there would be more great bands like The Crawl around these days..

  • I always thought James Reyne sung this...

  • i remember the old 'grundy's' waterslide.

  • lol, so do i... lol.. holy crap!!

  • @wiggo4 yeah, me too, only went there once - i didn't think it was good as the only other one i ever went on, Waterworks, in Cairns

  • @wiggo4 I remember the arcade and coin tokens more.

  • Love it!=p

  • great song about a great Aussie.

Errol Flynn was even famous down in Ibiza for sailing his schooner (not the drinking vessel you clowns) into the harbour in the 50's and downing dozens of his favourite drink before entertaining the ladies ashore, well before pretenders like Poof Daddy came along.

James Reyne's life is a little like Flynns......

  • Well said Jaffa,

Many years ago I watched an English talk show, maybe Parkinson and David Niven was interviewed and asked of his Friendship with Flynn. Niven, with his great wit, Loved Flynn and said they had shared many places and Hotels. He laughed and said why do you think I look so old. He said even being on the same floor as Flynn , you could not sleep for the amount of women coming and going,The Partying He spoke of his Charismatic, magnetic personality which charmed everyone

    Great Song !.

  • Such a groovy summer song. Good old Australian Crawl!

  • This is a song Australia can be proud of.

  • ...uma das melhores bandas do mundo...

  • I'm glad telndel removed his comment... i really do not understand why people type shit before thinking ...
