  • Mega drive had the best run and guns.

  • Gunners Heaven is the only PSX game I have that doesn't run on my PS2... and it also misbehaves on PSX just as shown in the video. WTH :)

  • All this talk of Contra and I'm surprised you never mentioned that it was reskinned and released as Probotector in parts of Europe! Great show though! Made me want to play Metal Slug and Gunstar Heroes again!

  • @WskOsc That's weird, I thought we did. Or at least I thought about that when making the episode, probably just forgot to mention it. Just the name "Probotector" makes me laugh. Contra not good enough for them? :)

  • @MrGameSack Yeah, it's a funny name but they actually changed the name and theme because they thought that European audiences might be offended or upset by the content of Contra, so they changed it to robots protecting stuff (hence the name) instead of guys just blowing stuff up. I guess our British sensibilities weren't ready for that kind of mind blowing dose of reality in our video games all those years ago.

  • man thanks for posting this. gunstar heroes, midnight resistance, contra, metal slug. i loved these games as a kid/teen and this brought back alot of memories

  • @crapperstick Glad to hear it. Thanks for watching!!

  • YEAHHHHAHHHHHAAAHAHHAA IT TAKES YEARS TO SEARCH THIS SHITTY GAME FINALLY I FOUND IT THANKS UPLOADER

I WAS THINKING THIS GAME IN 3DO CONSOLE

  • man, how'd yall forget ranger x

    its too good

  • @zachlolz Ranger X is kind of its own thing, not really a run n gun. I agree that it is too good. The goodness factor should have been brought down a little. :)

  • what bout metalgun slinger on the gameboy advance

  • @misterbiglee The only thing we can say about games that didn't make it in is said at 15:32

There are just too many games for one episode.

  • @MrGameSack have you ever played it ?

  • @misterbiglee To be honest, I hadn't even heard of it until you mentioned it.

  • Will you do one for the overhead run 'n guns like Commando, Ikari Warriors, Out Zone, etc? Great episode :)

  • @Gunmetalhed Yes, eventually we will. Can't leave those out!

  • Awesome. A person who knows how to say the NES abbreviation properly from America for once. I normally hear Americans say it as the N.E.S. which is completely wrong due to there not being any full stops between the letters when it's abbreviated on hardware or controllers, therefore NES always has and always will be the correct term for saying it not N.E.S.

Same goes for SNES isn't said as S.N.E.S. but should be said as a one word abbreviation also.

Good work on calling it the right name.

  • @wrestletube1 We've actually received a few comments here and there to the contrary. Dave will say "ness" and "sness". I say usually "Nintendo" and "Super Nintendo". I often type, but will never say aloud "SMS".

  • @MrGameSack Long way is also awesome and correct too. I call the Master System when abbreviating it as the MS as if it starts with SEGA or Nintendo except for the NES where it sounds stupid to cut it out or the SNES where the branding is in the middle. I tend to cut the branding off of the abbreviation as a rule too. lol.

  • A bit too focused on Contra.

Also the new Hard Corps is awful and looks like queer anime. Where are my buttchin men with no shirts and squinted eyes?

  • @WaffleKogen You talk about "queers" and instead want guys with no shirts? oooookay.

  • @MrGameSack Billy Herrington is a professional actor.

  • @WaffleKogen WOW... I've never cared so little about any comment I've seen in my life.

  • @GizmoFan1 OK.

  • I agree with you on "2.5 D" graphics. I'd rather have high-resolution 2D sprites than awkward looking 3D graphics for my sidescrollers.

  • @dumbfk12 Screw that, we'll just buy the real thing.

  • @dumbfk12 We didn't translate it ourselves! :P It was the only ROM I could find at the time.

  • SEGA WINS! =P

  • so this list sucks because you guys said game like contra and then added the fucking squeals but mixed them up you should have just said the contra series and i own the contra series except and i review games on a blog and i also play alot of games so i know what the fuck i talk about

  • @xoxlolgamegodlolxox OK, gotcha. We'll remove this horrid video immediately! Sorry to have offended your sensibilities.

  • Dude! I love Contra: Shattered Soldier! But I can see your point.

  • meh.. Shattered Soldier was awesome, the fact that you had to master the game to really beat it was pretty cool i thought, never had a problem with 3d graphics being used in 2d side-scrollers personally but thats me. For its time I thought it looked pretty sharp. Anyways.. My opinion Uprising is the best Contra hands down, Contra 4 is 2nd best, I haven't really played a Contra game I didn't like, but there are a couple I never played.

  • Had some good selection of games and am always gald to see the run and gun games get some love.

I was really interested in this video until I heard the phrase "All Metal Slug games are pretty much the same". This phrase couldn't be farther from the truth. Each Metal Slug game is very different. Then there was the sentiment that Way Forward develops mostly crap. Guess you never played Batman: The Brave and the Bold for the Wii, Sigma Star Saga for the GBA, or the upcoming BloodRayne: Betrayal.

  • @jedahdoma Each Metal Slug game very different? Sounds like someone who is trying to justify owning multiple Metal Slugs. Yes, there are differences, but the gameplay is basically identical. They are all pretty much the same. If I owned one, I wouldn't feel compelled to own any others... maybe play through them, but certainly not own them. Metal Slug 4 is worth it because of the music.

  • @MrGameSack I only own Metal Slug X and 3 on MVS. Though I do own all of them on other compilations. Regardless of how many I own or don't own doesn't change things. The additions and differences in each Metal Slug from weapons, vehicles, characters, game play systems, and much more make each one play differently. Simply putting those little factoids out there.

  • @Super90sGamer Well, shucks.

  • @MrGameSack Gunforce I and II in the Arcade simply OWNS! I think I like it more than Metal Slug!

  • @sybnios Haven't played Gun Force 2, but is Gun Force 1 actually a decent arcade game? If so, they REALLY screwed up the SNES version.

  • @MrGameSack Ok Gun Force 2 can't be compared with 1. My excitement was more for the sequel :P But one thing is for sure that they REALLY screwed up the SNES ver. In the Arcades you can call it easily an enjoyable game!

  • You guys should drop the awful attempts at humor and have a more declarative style. Your vids are good, but you need to elevate your level of maturity.

  • @Wampaa Thanks for your comments, but we wish to continue with the awful level of our humor... absolutely dreadful as it may be.

  • @MrGameSack My comment seems a bit harsh when I read it today. Your vids are of high quality and are edited and shot well. I should have praised what I liked instead of what i didn't. Keep up the good work!

  • @Wampaa No worries. :)

  • @Wampaa I actually enjoy the forced humor, personally. It has a charm all its own.

  • @kodan50 We have an idea for a future episode that will be ridiculously immature, but we're not sure how/if we;ll pull it off.

  • I have the japanese Ps1 version. It has some pretty weird things that were not in any other version...

  • @GizmoFan1 Sorry, ment metal slug

  • GUNSTAR HEROES!!!!

  • Fun fact: Famicom Contra is not called Gryzor this is a popular misconception. In Japan Contra is also called Contra (Arcade and Famicom). Gryzor is specifically the European Arcade version of Contra 1 only. That fan made ROM hack you showed was translated by morons. :)

  • @superdeadite Clearly, but unfortunately it was all I could find. Dave has the real Famicom version on the way, but he didn't find out about it until we were recording this episode, so I had to include the hacked ROM.

  • @superdeadite Almost correct; actually it was not only the European arcade version that was caled Grzor, but also the home computer ports.

  • Journey to silius / [raf] WORLD is awesome

  • Excellent job Joseph and David!! Best one yet!! JOURNEY TO SILLIUS and TURRICAN!!! Nice job!!

  • Gunforce 1 is pure garbage. Gunforce 2 however is AWESOME

  • This is much longer than usual.. Anyways, great episode, guys!

  • D'ya know that they ported the original Gunstar Heroes to the iPhone? It's terrible.

Not the game, of course, it's probably my favorite of the ones shown, but touch screen controls were annoying.

  • Sunset Riders???

    Otherwise, a great episode.

  • @GatorM Ah yes, that one DID cross my mind during the making but for whatever reason I forgot it. I knew something like that would happen so that's why I said we'll probably miss some.

  • I can beat Contra without losing any lives!

  • Good job. Run N guns are awesome. I will not complain that I missed Sunset Riders there, since it's not that good anyway.

  • @KaskelotenZebbe Yeah, but neither is Demolition Man.

  • Awesome overview fellas. Great video.
