  • nice

  • Sound is superb! Which Amp?

  • paul your awesome!

  • What amp and pedal (if any) were used?

  • Also do u guys know any guitars that are similar to fender strats in terms of neck thickness and feel for heavy music?

  • @IIBlackoftheNightII

    try Vigier

  • Hey guys I really need help. I have Mexican Fender Stratocaster which i absolutely love. I play anything from animals as leaders to Metallica, to Avenged Sevenfold to blues etc on it. I Mainly play metal like Metallica, pantera and led zep etc bands. I went to guitar shops and i haven't yet played a guitar which for me matches my fender. I've started looking into pickups for my fender. It has a humpbucker in the bridge position. Which pickups would u guys recommend me? please visit my channel.

  • I feel like the tone of these is spot on, but like most noiseless single-coils, they have something missing in dynamics... Can anyone confirm or deny this from personal experience? Thanks.

  • Do you guys think it would be a good idea to put these pups on my MIJ 62 reissue? (basswood body)

  • this isn't real. I've seen the real video on Dimarzio.com and that noise isn't there. whoever posted this video is just fucking with us.

  • @mudbone80 it is japanese

  • the fact that they are made with alnico 2s is great. 2s have less magnet pull which in turn gives better sustain and inotation.

  • i usually don't go for noiseless strat pickups cuz they usaully sound lame as fuck to me. I never had a problem with too much 60 cycle hum but these pickups sound great. they actually sound like single coil stratocaster pickups.

  • Hi, i have a 1990 squier. Hardtail, new paint, new frets and new nut. It has some fretwear (a little buzz) and some relic (4 out of 10). I paid €400 for it, thats like $580. is that a fair price?

  • @skylorz If its a Japanese one, yes. If its not, than no, its not a fair price.

  • I love my 60 cycle hum. It's a typical Fender thing. I don't want to get rid of it. :)

  • I have to say.. one of the LEAST annoying pickup reviews I have seen. Not trying to impressing anyone with his chops. Clean and overdriven tones (but easy on the effects).

  • Which would go best for a middle pickup with a air norton S in the neck and a super distortion humbucker in the bridge?

  • sounds good! what scales u using?

  • this dude have biggest head ever

  • 0:56

HEY! why are you flippin me off.

  • .. Hot Hot ... pickups.

  • im not a big fan of the giant fender head stock i much like ti better thinner

  • I put this same set up on my Fender.

Do they sound exactly like the real deal pick ups, I don't think so.

    Do they sound great yes.

    Are they noiseless absolutely.

To my ears they sound a little more in the mids.

  • Paul, got to say. You improve everytime I hear you. Keep up the good wok man...

  • to bright

  • I find that the stack single coils.. lose that classic tone. You only really get the hum when not playing... I tried some dimarzio virtual vintage...replaced texas specials.. hated them.. the texas specials even with the hum.. were heads/tails better sounding for that classic fender tone..

  • I see he was quick to turn down the vol before the hum had time to evolve into a shipping forecast .. ;-)

  • I have the '61 in the neck and the 58 in the middle of my fat strat. I find them to be a little fuzzy in the attack, and not so clear like for example the fender eric johnson pickups in my eric johnson fender. The Fender pickups, which are alittle lower output, have the spank, clear attack with no fuzzines. Ok the fender pickups are not noise canceling, but they sound alot better and like real good strat single coils. I am going to change out my area's with maybe some Suhr V60LP's or similar.

  • The AREA series of DiMarzio Strat replacement pickups have become my all time favorite STRAT pickups!!

I have them in many of my guitars and they are wonderful!!

  • @rich655 what did you compare them to? I think dimarzios are crap but I'm curious how you base your opinion or how you came to like them? I guess I'm slightly biased since I got piss poor customer service from them, but I still think they suck. I've owned Fralins, Fender, Seymour Duncans, and Dimarzios and they were probably my least favorite, them and maybe Texas Specials.

  • @joesl8 I have tried them all (except Fralins...too damned expensive!) and have found the DiMarzio's to be the most true to the 'Strat Sound' while being totally silent. I am MORE than satisfied with my choice!

Listen to the video.....seriously....what MORE could a Strat player want?!?

All the trademark sounds are there! I

I, personally, have had NO issues with DiMarzio's customer service. I exchanged a wrong pickup choice at their Staten Island location with no problems!

  • @rich655 Sorry, I was mainly ranting because I got bad service from dimarzio, not a retailer. I'll admit the vid sounds good. It's too bad because I won't buy from them again based on previous experience. I'm getting what is probably my third set of Fralins but I'd really like to hear more stuff on the SD Antiquity II's. I'm sure most of these pickups are going to make your strat sound more or less like a strat and I agree, they're all pretty damn expensive.

  • No Biff....You get YOUR DAMN HANDS OFF OF HER!

  • @HumblePie76 LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @HumblePie76 oh my, your going strait to hell for that one

  • Ummmmmmm is this supposed to be a professional Guitar World review?

That mic is so loud and distracting.

  • wew...how much are these now?...

  • Man, you should lay off the whammy when you're reviewing stuff.

  • haha one video where pauls guitar does not sound like shit

  • 0:52 no... no i cant

  • @KILL3RKI3R4N LOL

  • Ugh, all the volume variance and motion on the lav mic is ANNOYING! Audio engineering fail. At least the guitar demo is good.

  • i better die as playing a distortion tone with single pickups. especially with a strat..

  • lol at the end he says area 51 and 61

  • can these noiseless single coil pickups be used on other guitars like an Ibanez or do these just fit on a strat?

  • @ricomajestic Any guitar with singlecoil routing

  • Love the Demo, I want some. On a side note, USE AN OMNI DIRECTIONAL mic on your wireless. The handling noise is irritating on an otherwise GREAT DEMO.

  • @vividprosystems thats is exactly what i was thinking!!! LMAO!

  • is that a huge strat? or is he really small

  • Wow, I'm not usually a DiMarzio fan, but these sound great.... I'm a Seymour Duncan guy, but these pickups sound great, might have to try these! The True Velvets sound good too, but these IMO are the True Velvets + Noise-cancelling. Love it!

  • Most of his vids have a dead distant quiet sound but this is the 2nd best demo imho, the 1st was the '58les paul vs Dimarzio pickupsone. V nice! I am jealous though it must be the greatest job in the world(sigh!). Mind you do we need the spec waffled for ages, just play ffs!

  • little bit of gain on these pickups. or a ton of gain. either one

  • Awesome tone Paul. Just wish you'd used a "noiseless" microphone on your shirt collar!

  • what an amazing tone!

  • He looks so.. different.

  • Yeah maan! Good video now I'll know which one to choose thanks!

  • how is this pickup with distortion? is it good sounding?

  • @andredid

    Bea-coups! I use a TS-808.

  • I put these into a MIM SSH about three years ago and I have never looked back.

I put a 58' in the neck, a 61' in the middle and a Tone Zone at the bridge.

I copper shielded it, star grounded it and put Hovland Musicaps in it with a Volume neck on-switch.

Seven combination's and not one is a dog.

They respond very well to picking attack. Got to be careful with the height though.

You have to experiment with them to get the clear bell-like tone. Too close and they can drag on they strings.

  • @amigdaloid - would you share the heights that you ended up with? I've got the 58/67/61 combo and am having a hard time finding the sweet spots.

  • @pipesstratman

I will when I get my strat back from the cleaners. I had a little accident and my neck is being fixed. Jim Mouradian is doing the work so I won't get it back until September 22. Allot will depend on the setup you like e.g high or low. I know when I sit for the final setup with Mr. Mouradian that he will have changed them.

  • i wonder how these pickups compare with fenders new N3 pickups. anyone had a chance try them? much difference in the tonal character?

  • what kind of amp is he using? and effects/pedals?

  • I cant believe that a seasoned professional crew like you can make a demo with all this mike noise.. why didn't you re-shoot it? We all watch and trust your reviews because you guys seem like pros who take pride in their work. This is a very amateur clip.. please get your sheet together .. please don't disrespect your viewers.

  • ok i gonna get a dimarzio pick up in my neck position. Should i go true velvet or area 58, 61, or 67. i want that old school sound.

  • @PopExpo

even though the "area" series is noiseless they don't sound as fat and as full as the true velvets in the neck position. If you want a real fat sounding sweet noiseless pickup for the neck position try the Dimarzio YJM model.

  • Awesome dude!

  • If i want the same pickups this guy has what would i get for the bridge middle and neck?

  • Love these pickups - I have 58 in the neck, 61 in the middle and a PAF stye humbucker at the bridge. Great combination. These are quieter than the humbucker!

  • Im putting a 58 in My Eastwood JR Elete for the bridge

  • say if you put those pick ups in a guitar that wasnt a strat like a PRS or les paul would you still get the same strat sound?

  • @stephen102 no. good pickups should show lots of guitar character too.

  • Would love to know what kind of amp he is using. A lot these pickup and guitar reviews, on You Tube, don't tell you that. You can't just walk into a music shop and try out what ever pickup you are interested in and match it to your rig, or even see if you like them. You are basically buying them with the hope that they will sound good to you.Never the less I'm getting these for my Warmoth project.

  • Hi,

We used a Vox AC 30 hand wire version.

    Hope that helps,

    Larry DiMarzio

  • Comment removed

  • @LarryDiMarzio I thought it might be a Vox of some kind and it does help! Thanks! Is this a more recommended/versatile setup than the 61's in all 3 positions? Also in my other Strat I'm installing a Virtual Vintage Blues in the Neck. With a PAF Humbucker in the Bridge what do you recommend in the Middle?

  • @herc122 There is nothing wrong with Area 61s in all positions, but installing a brighter-sounding pickup such as an Area 67 in the middle will accentuate the quack of the 2 & 4 positions.

With the second Strat, an Area 61 in the middle might be a good choice.

  • @LarryDiMarzio So the verdict is in. In my Warmoth I installed 67/67/61 and in my other Strat I installed the VV Blues, on your recommedation, I installed the 61's in the middle. I could not be happier! They are dynamic, responsive, articulate and so quiet! I'm in love with my guitar all over again! I've gone through many single coils, in my Strat, and have never been satisfied with the sound until now!The VV Blues is insane & and the 67's are magical! This coming from a true tone freak!

  • @LarryDiMarzio On a further and final note these pickups do exactly what any great pickup should do: Which is bring out the sound of the wood! Many great and heartfelt Thanks Larry! :) BTW I am not one to throw out any praise unless it is well deserved!

  • @LarryDiMarzio Hello Larry. Isn't it true that not all hum is caused by the pickups? Sometimes it has to to with other aspects, right?

  • @LarryDiMarzio Hey Larry I've been using your pickups since I started playing guitar, not because I had an affinity for any of the players using them (which I do anyway) but because of the TONE (in particular the midrange). There's nothing like them. Thank you for putting out great products and always coming up with new technology to further every guitarist's lifelong pursuit for perfect tone! Good to see you posting here, I know I'll always stand by your pickups as long as you do too!

  • Okay, I'm sold.

  • I heard with noiseless pickups, it cancels out the hum cancelling in positions 2 and 4, is that true? Do you get hum in position 2 and 4?

  • i have a budget strat with standard pickups and i dont get any hum in position 2 or 4. It was a cheap guitar so i doubt they are noise cancelling?

  • Hi,

The Area pickups are noiseless, therefore, in all positions. You can wire standard single coils to be quite in position 2 and 4.

  • @LarryDiMarzio Hi Larry! Are these Areas also uses 250k or 500k pots? Thanks!

  • thank-you Paul for helping made a choice...i'll get custom shop 54's .

  • i just got a free fender strat. its really beat up but cool cause it was free.made in japan idk how much it cost originally probably around 500-600$. should i get this set? someone please tell me cause i wanna get new pickups and have it as my more bluesy guitar. my metal, punk, rock guitar is my gibson sg std. so someone please tell me if i should get these more my strat.

  • well lets put it this way paul gilbert uses thesem single coils in his ibanex fireman guitar i would say yes it would work for wat u want to do

  • @blameitonbadluck95 Try the texas special single coils, they will give you a really nice bluesy sound. There are some videos on youtube of them. Also, check out maa band :)

  • Hey Man , you dont sounded good in any video ... Poor Tones... with good gears... do you think wrong ?

  • it was a hum??

  • Man, I'm happy I found this. I've been wanting to replace the pickups in my Strat and I was curious about what kind of sound I'd get.

    Thanks for posting.

  • I think the Area series pickups sound great, but I question their ability to handle harsher distortion settings.

  • eh i think paul did great review

  • What amp's this through?

  • The pick ups are really noiseless....but Paul is.....lol

  • Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues 2(bridge), Area 61s in mid and neck. Now that particular strat is a Rock Freak. Dimarzio kick serious arse.

  • I have tone zone s at the bridge area 58 middle area 61 neck it's amazing

  • @planetcaravan93 Another combo to try out, if you want or have the money. Is Chopper(bridge), Fast Track 1(middle), Fast Track 1(neck). Still has a "strat sound" but louders and can handle distortion much much better.

  • @PrsFenderJackson1980 Chopper sounds pretty awesome in the neck with a hot bucker in bridge. Check out Mercy Mercedes, that Chopper sounds crazy good on solos.

  • Paul I know you are so much more experienced at reviews, but for the love of god sit still, your mic is noisy as hell. Thanks for the review. You don't constantly have to move your head either, this is not public speaking:)

  • Hey dude, how about you shut the hell up. I think he did a perfect job and if you feel like trying talk smack about people, save it for somewhere where you won't make a dumbass of yourself.

  • Hey, dyingforastrat is right. The lapel mic doesn't work for this piece. He's not talking "smack", it's a simple observation. The sound guy should have caught this before it went live.

  • It's Marty McFly from the "Back to the Future" movie. He's gone into pickup sales instead of playing Chuck Berry covers.

  • i has a whammy bar so i must use it every time i play

  • well duh...

  • @mnewcomb59 What an asinine comment.

  • @mnewcomb59 That's what it's there for...

  • I have a set of dimarzio areas, 67, 61, and 58's for sale, if anyone is interested

  • u in the usa?

  • Yes I am, indiana.

  • This should be obvious, but is it possible to put these pickups in my telecaster, I've heard to do it you would have to re-route a bit but I've never had to replace pickups and I have no clue what to do. Or if this is could even be done. If anyone could get back to me it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • I've read and found MANY people that have done this. I have these pickups, i have had them for about 2 weeks, and only been able to play them for 1, because I'm on vacation. I want my guitar back SOOOO bad!

  • Comment removed

  • I have Area 58 for my middle pickup which is a great contrast with my bridge and neck EVOLUTIONS. Its the most noiseless/humless virtual humbucker, very sweet strat crispy tones. I love it

  • wow. holy crap. this pups tones are unbelievable. there versitile, articulate, silent, punchy, smokin, geez. im gonna have to get me these pups for my cheap strat.

  • and they are acually QUIETER than humbuckers lol

  • really? haha. thats pretty cool man.

  • thats what their website says. i agree thats really cool.

  • that's one thing I've found funny with my hss strat. the split humbuckers (noiseless single coils) are quieter than the humbucker.

  • alot of it is what position you're in too. like if you're in position 2 (or 4 depending on how you look at it) you actually have the split single from the bucker, and the middle single, as well as the other coil from the bucker. eric johnson used to get stacked buckers in his strat and unhook one of the coils, simply having another coil that close to the one you're using can cancel alot of hum.

  • Do these break up with HIGH distortion?

  • please some one respond to this quick! I play everything from B.B. King to ANVIL! (or for some who may not be familiar with that band Metallica is also an example) and here's my plan for pick ups....

    Area '61- Neck

    HS- 3- Middle

    HS-2- Neck

Will this sound good? I will take as much advice as it can get!

  • You mean area 61 bridge?

Well, this wont sound like metallica... You need 2 guitars, sorry, Ive got the same problem xD

  • I have not heard very good things about the hs pickups, but the areas are amazing. Check out paul gilbert.. he plays metal and he uses the area 67's in every position

  • Try a 67 or YJM n,61 or YJM m and an HS3 b or something like that for a versitile guitar.I know what you mean man,I play everything from john mayer, hendrix,SRV,RHCP,to metallica,yngwie,nirvana,btbam,greenday,a7x,its hard to find one guitar that can do all that, especially for like gigs,Im gonna try a 67n 61m and Superdistortion b.dont ever rush on buying anything permenant, take you time, tone shop, try fender SCNs,dimarzios seymour duncans,GFSs,its a huge variety, find whats best for you, good luck.

  • These days you don't need extremely high gain pickups. Most amps can give you all the gain you need. I am convinced that ceramic magnet pickups were designed for stage only. Really to make the sound and push crappy amps into overdrive. Today high end amps have some many options and gain. I mean wow. Engl Powerball 100 is just freakin wow, man.

  • Great mic placement. Freakin genius.

  • Does anyone know how these would sound for early metal/hard rock tones?

  • The true velvets sound better =/

  • Put that crack pipe down son ! ! !

  • dude you need to place your mic somewhere else!

  • convincing indeed !!!

  • "Not reviewing* a strat itself"

  • "Not reveiling the strat itself"... Is it a highway one stratocaster?

  • these are dummy coil humbuckers so the other coil is just a dummy coil that only picks up hum in the reverse direction. so no logical need for coil tap.

as for this kind of tone, you won't get it on a full sized humbucker. you just can't.

  • are he using these pick ups in coil tap mode or humbucking?

  • do you speak english?

  • um, yes i dont know how that relates to my question

  • I am a beginner in this guitar world so please explain: is it mainly the choise of guitar pickups, effects or ampliefier that makes a good qulity sound??

I really likes the sound from thiese typ of pickups!

  • It's like all of those. But before you find your own sound, ya gotta know how to play.

But yeah, good pickups and good strings are a good place to start.

  • I second that. Every good/great guitarist has his own distinct sound, hendrix could have picked up paul gilberts guitar, and it would have sounded like hendrix. Get your distinct sound, then start investing in things to really let that sound ring out! Its everything combined that gets that great quality.

  • What amp is he using

  • Area 51 as the topic, or Area 58 as the dude in the video says??????????

  • they are the Dimarzio Area 58 and Area 61 pickups...i have that exact same setup.

  • what strings do you prefer??

  • i have found that Ernie Ball Super Slinkys are the best in my opinion

  • ibanez guitars feel great but their pickups suck

  • is it possible to do a pinch farmonic on a fender squeir? with strat pickups ( bullet strat ) or should i sell that guitar for like 100 on ebay and buy a better guitar like a dean?

  • absolutely... i've heard my friend do it when we were jamming in his garage... he used a high gain amp called the Mesa Boogie Rectifier... but i would sell it anyway :D

  • lol ok :)

  • buy Ibanez guitar (sometnik like old RG550) and you can easily do pinch harmonics

  • Buy Ibanez RG and win a CRAP tone ....

    tsc tsc

  • yea that is because of V pickups. But if your replace them with some used dimarzios for 50€... ...you have excelent guitar

  • u missed Dean!

  • Indonesian or china Ibanez sucks, but Guitars made in japan rulz !!!

  • I have a 1977 Ibanez strat copy made in Japan of course...it is one sweet neck on that thing...gonna put an area 61 in it...keeping the originals though in case i ever sale it....probably won't though because i've had it since about 1987.

  • I dont think Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert, Andy Timmons or Joe Satriani would be overly happy to hear that...

  • yer i mean andy timmons uses ibanez and he has an AMAZING tone

  • of course you can...it's all in the fingers dude.

  • yeah, i finally get pinch harmonics everytime

  • Fantastic PU!!

    I bought these!!

Now i'm going to put in them on my Strato!!

  • bill lawrence also designed fender's scn pickups
