The correct definition for retard is slow thats it. Now to say that retard should offended X and Y people is the same as calling them retards. I think that "definition" (there are MANY "definitions" of many words... and language is an evolving structure) is the definition of the FRENCH phrase en Retard..late, slow, or delayed...
But I think you are being misleading if you suggest that in ENGLISH there isn't a HUGE connection in the "definition" of the word to the negative things I mentioned otherwise.

Sorry Cenk but I think its a little unfair to infer that "ignoring" popularism is the same as wanting to screw the people. Just because something is popular does not make it right or a good idea. People have as much understanding of economics as they do nuclear physics, and as far as I know, they don't ask Joe the plumber for advice on nuclear reactors.
Now I happen to agree with you that you are getting shafted by corporate interests, but not because the average guy does not like the banks.

yeah but when u live in a democratic system its all about popularism. Thats the fatal flaw of the democratic system and we have way to change that. When you deal with something that affects a mass of people i think we should have the last say if we want it to happen or not. Your example is out of context because that doesnt affect joe now if they want to be a reactor in joe's town well joe and everyone around him should have a say in whether or not they want it to happen or not.

You do not get to choose whether you have an economy in your town. Its there, and no amount of tea-bagging will make it go away. So we are not talking about whether or not you get to have one, we are talking about who is best qualified to decide what buttons to press to make sure it does not explode and kill you all.
Now you can try to do it by "who shouts the loudest" during a Fox news rally if you want, but I just hope my government gets its economy out of the blast radius first :)
