03:48 tut tut, should b A hungarian goose .. it's only AN when the next word is followed by a vowel sound tut tut makes me think whether he really did go to harvard and oxford or if it's just made up :'( lol
Did anyone else notice the editing blooper? "17:32" Where the presents in Frasiers arms change every time the camera angle does? Ooops. Guess they didnt get that one on the fist take. Ha.
@JudyFightsBack I started watching these episodes intensively when I was practicing for my GRE (my mother tongue is not English). The vocabulary in Frasier is quite sophisticated for a popular tv show. Btw, I got a 630 on the verbal section, a grade which I consider quite good. I wonder if Frasier had something to do with that...
@asalmog Yeah, my mother tongue is not English either, and I find Frasier a little hard to follow, but I have learnt a lot from this and other series... wich is your mother tongue? mine is Spanish
@es2812 Mine is Hebrew. Educated people in Israel have to speak English quite well, but the basis fot their knowledge is the popular shows and movies and songs, which usually have more basic English. Frasier is different.
@dontliekid Yeah I wonder how many years after this "in-joke" would fly over people's heads. Seems odd (to me) that there'd be a generation who would watch this without getting the reference. I wouldn't call them "retards" though.
It's odd how context can induce different effects with the very same things. For example, in a Christmas atmosphere the name Snowflake is cute and innocent while in the everyday world it sounds like a stripper's or playboy bunny's name =\
Copernicus really would have no idea about the centre of the universe.. if anything he called to say that Niles isn't the centre of the solar system. Frasier should know that. :-)
"What's the matter? Low...ELF-esteem?" *immediately followed by face demonstrating complete amusement at his own joke* Genius writing and acting, as always.
Man, Daphne looks so freakin' gorgeous in this episode. I really do think that her hair this season is the best it's looked in the entire series.
(Also, can someone please explain the Daphne hate to me? I really don't get it. I would normally just chalk it up to misogynists who can't stand that a strong-willed female character is shown on equal footing with the male main characters, but Roz never seems to engender the same level of animosity that later-series Daphne gets.)
Because she's obnoxious. As are militant, hairy legged, lesbian pseudo-feminists who throw around words like 'misogynist' at a drop of a hat whenever they see a man criticise a woman.
@stopdropreload I don't think misogyny has anything to do with it. The Daphne character became quite snippety and condescending in later seasons. A lot of her "jokes" weren't done with humor, they seemed to be intentionally spiteful. She lost a lot of her "sweetness" from earlier seasons. I realize that's character "evolution"; but it doesn't automatically mean she's MORE likeable.
Well, people feel like Daphne from earlier seasons is much nicer & sweeter than the later Daphne, particularly after she got together with Niles. I can kind of see that, but I think it's more of her growing up and changing, she was young when she started working for the Cranes, so she just became more mature & less weird. People change, so did everyone else in the show, but Daphne just changed the most. I don't find her nearly as annoying as others seem to, though. :)
@indianzeppelin Because, (though it sounds weird!) iti s technically proper syntax, if you pay attention he and Niles also say 'an historical' and so on ^^
The scriptwriters went way over the top here.... a good looking, well groomed, well dressed, investment banker playing Santa for charity...why didn't they just go the whole hog and make him bloody SUPERMAN!!
@drhazeem I'm sorry to correct you but actually Daphne was 32 when the show started! I couldnt believe it when i read that, she looked so much younger...
you know, some of you comparing an "early" daphne to a "later" daphne are off the mark. When people get older, people change. If your older, you'll understand that people's thought process evolves over time and circumstances do change people. I'm not sure the average age here, but think about how you've changed in life, I'm sure thats what happened with daphne's character.
@KenCaesarXL Agreed, Daphne was in her early to mid 20s when this show started, now she's in her mid 30s or so. The character really evolved like people do.
No they are correct. Its a e i o u and h!
But now it's more often done based on the sound
