  • Now that was quality!

  • I like this song!

It sounds a little like Sigur Ros's compositions

  • All my lovers were there with me

    All my past and futures

And we all went to heaven in a little row boat

And there was there nothing to fear, nothing to doubt

    <3

  • Neil Young should cover this. If he knows what's good for him

  • @skywardism Indeed, or else.

  • he looks good with a beard, what you chattin?

  • What a beautifoul dream.........

  • Gods they are good..

  • lyrics are kind of reminiscent of 'in my life', beatles.

  • @mehdinadif beatles are gay

  • @bukk3t gay as the day is long...

  • @ 0:25 do i see a vagina?

  • the irony of radiohead in 'top of the pops'

  • @misterblitzer well they are popular...

  • This song is really beautiful and manipulative because of how quickly it makes your thoughts cold, nothing has sent me down so much shiver down my spine before.

  • q modesto q es mierda¡

  • Nothing to fear...That's what i feel.

  • 2 People had something to fear and something to doubt.

  • (may have double posted...)

For those of us who aren't "users," there is a trick to fully enjoying this song:

1: Turn off all the lights in the room you are in

    2: Shut your eyes

3: Focus on the music, don't think. Let the music fill you up, swallow you whole. Eventually, there will be nothing but the song itself. You should use headphones/earbuds for the best effect.

After that, if you didn't feel like you were floating, you either did something wrong, or you don't have a soul.

  • @MissNemesisFace I feel like I'm floating whenever I hear this song anyway :)

  • The trick with this song, for those of us who don't do drugs is to:

1:Turn off all the lights in whatever room you are in

    2: Shut you eyes

3: Tune out everything but the music...let it fill you, until all that remains is the song. You aren't even there, anymore (use headphones/earbuds for the best effect).

If you don't feel like you're floating after that, then you are either doing something wrong, or you have no soul.

  • cuando escucho esta cancion.me hace sentir en un estado de desconexion con la realidad, algo que ninguna droga que haya probado me haya hecho sentir

  • Kid A and Amnesiac are their best albums in my opinion. Not to say that almost everything they do isn't a masterpiece. But Kid A and Amnesiac have to be my favorite albums ever recorded. Such originality, and brilliance.

  • @Fablerew The first track "You" and the final track "Blow Out" are both superb tracks. I would recomend to download those songs if you don't want to buy the actual album.

  • There was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt.

  • he definitely shouldnt shave, you know beards are awesome<3

  • piece of shit

  • Is it true that a lot of Radiohead fans consider Amnesiac their least favorite album? I was shocked at hearing this, because I consider it to be one of their finest, most creative works. I didn't take the CD out of my car for months....

  • @grantchestermeadows1 I would say most fans consider Pablo Honey their least favorite album.

  • @grantchestermeadows1 Being a Radiohead fan of almost 10 years now I personally don't have a least favorite album. There's genius on every album (even Pablo Honey) and it takes many different forms. From the raw hypnotism of Amnesiac to the infinite layers of TKOL I may gravitate towards one more than the others at any time, but for me it's very hard say overall "favorite" or "least favorite."

  • you know that shivery feeling you get when you hear something REALLY fucking cool in a song?

this whole track gives me a siezure.

  • Amazing I would never forget when i saw them perform this master piece.

I remember feeling the world can end right now preferably after the concert of course..

I'm telling you there not from this planet because they allways take me to another planet Radiohead Best band ever!

''playing F.E.A.R.2. online plus radiohead so strange im a middle of a war but i have there was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt

there was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt

  • @TheRedstormshadow man, it's just a video game. haha. sorry i like giving people a tough time. i've had some great experiences with music and video games too.

  • how can you play in this awkward(but awesome) time signature and sing? wow

  • I Thought Pablo Honey and The Bends were awesome

    I was mistaken

    Amnesiac and Kid A

    Oh my god

  • @Southparker42 Don't forget OK Computer.....

  • @tragicomicus1

Actually i was mistkaken..i meant OK computer, not kid a ^^

Kid A is the only one i don't like

  • @Southparker42 You don't like Kid A? I think that's one of their best.

  • @AmazingPurpleCat

    I really dislike it

tonly song i listen to is how to disappear completely

but i respect the cd and radiohead's work

  • @Southparker42 Well, each to his own. How to Disappear Completely is a good song, shame you don't like the reast of the album.

  • @AmazingPurpleCat

    it's ok

they still almost are my favorite band

  • I want my death to be this beautiful.

  • @Aztek92 I can arrange that.

    Haha. Nah. Jk.

  • Comment removed

  • I want to see them live more than any other band right now..... Anyone know when the next album is due out?

  • @lephilosophe93 buddy we are all in the dark on that one hopefully by 2011

  • Great song good video

  • I can notice the big difference between the pop of America and the pop of Britain!!!

  • When does the Ooooooooh... at the beginning he sounds like a kazoo!

  • My respect for top of the pops has gone up from 0 to 100

  • You can see on this video that thom is not a humain...

  • Just brilliant timing not many songs are in 11/8.

  • @WeFlewOverTheRainbow ...including this one

  • @modifydbear yea.... this is not in 11/8

  • I find it pretty annoying to see videos of this band and the only thing to see is Thom´s face, he is gorgeous, but this band is formed y 5 great musicians too, at least the camera should take every instrument when it´s played.

  • how can he be so perfectly tuned :o hes like an instrument

  • I remember this episode of totp from when i was a kid, i loved this song and i'm sure jonothan ross introduced it and slagged it off, now theres an over rated fellow.

  • I remember when they first created this song back in the 90's it was originally titled 'Nothing to Fear'

    classic lads

  • AAAGGGGHHHHH mind fuck of awesomeness :D

  • Es, 1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4.... Pyramid song...

  • he always needs to shave. 90% of the times of seen him hes had that half beard. hes still my idol though

  • perfect

  • 16/8 of course.

  • its a weird song in structure because the vocals are a different key and time signature to the piano

  • your an idiot

  • Yes, Thom Yorke wrote the song and so forth, but I personally DON'T think that he realized how this song would impact so many people. I suppose that would be sort of the point of art, where your job or duty, as the artist, is just, or simply, to create.

    Thom, please keep creating...

  • yesss, rhytm of his songs is really unusual and that why thousands and thousands people love Thom York and Radiohead. :)

    <3

  • Why on earth are there people trying to DANCE to this song. Settle down and listen to the fricken' magic, you idiot!

  • Thom's piano chords are always in this swing rhythm, with a steady quarternote beat behind it in the ride cymbal.

    (quarter*=dotted-quarter)

quarter*, quarter*, half, quarter*, quarter*, quarter*, quarter*, half, quarter*, quarter*.

  • listen carefully and you will notice that the chords are played on the pattern of a classic 4/4 bossa nova clave...the strange thing is the chord's changing on that pattern

  • yes it is in 4. for those that know rhythm it has a triplet feel. it is grouped 3 2 3 3 2 3 and then repeated. I am a drummer so I think of it like a swiss with the rrl sticking and each right is a three and each left is a 2. dont over think it. just know that the second note he plays on the piano is not a downbeat it falls on the 3rd partial of a triplet and after you feel that you basically have it. just count from then on.

  • 17th I jumped into the river

    18th Black-eyed angels swa

  • the syncopation only resolves through in 16 counts. (1) There was nothing to fear and nothing to (8) doub....9...10....11...[.drums syncopating ] 12....13.....14....15.....16

it is more obvious once the drums kick in half way in. 3/4-2/4-3/4-3/4-2/4-3/4 works because it adds to 16 but you can play this correctly by just counting to 16. You rythmically challenged may need to pull off your socks.

  • Extremt långsam Latin..! :-)

  • Oj. Jä. Nu hittade jag det. 4/4. Ingen tvekan. Skönt.

  • It's 4/4, no doubt, thats the beauty of it.

  • It's 4/4... jag vet musik...

  • Epic! For me Radiohead are the greatest band of their generation. The type of band that come around once in a lifetime and & thank God it was in mine. Thanks for posting.

  • @paulcadogan You can't forget Ween.

  • @paulcadogan Perfectly said.

  • It's in 4/4. But just about everything is syncopated. Then when Phil comes in... it gets even more confusing. The shorter notes = 1.5 beats, the longer = 2.

  • @TheAdvocate thanks for clarifying that.

  • correct me if i'm wrong but i counted the beats as an additive subdivision, this is what i got....2,2,3,2,2,2,2,3,2,2...this would make a total cycle worth 22 beats so I'm going to say 11/8, i could be wrong, i'm still a beginner at identifying additive meters. If i am wrong please correct me and explain why I'm wrong....thanx

  • Love direction of this show, camera angle and such

  • This is proof that you can get high without actually taking drugs, something about this song makes me feel elevated

  • Agreed, I think if you took music away from Thom and Jonny, they would simple die.

  • @downeyfan20 Yea but this song(the album infact) is amazing to listen to when on acid, truly an amazing experience,it changed my life.

  • @downeyfan20 try getting high too, tard

  • just loverly!

  • It doesn't matter what signature, either 3/4, 4/4, 5/8, you can play in either.

  • Look up Messiaen's "Fouillis d'arcs-en-ciel, pour l'Ange qui annonce la fin du temps" if you wanna see where they got this tune from.

  • Comment removed

  • It's not in 3/2, or something like that. It's in 4/4, but he doesn't play right on the beats.

  • haha! finally someone has it right! .. although i think the sheet music has a 2 as the demoninator.. so like 4/2 but yeah same deal really

  • Makes me cry every time, without fail.

    Killer

  • i take that back

  • its actually kind of a swing that thom is playing, at a slower pace of course in 3/4

  • cuando escucho estosiento q vuelo trqnkila y felizmente es increivle

  • This song is so complex, I have no idea how Thom keeps that rhythm.

  • it's in 4/4 ..... it's counted as a 106bpm rounded Bossa-nova 3-2 Clave rhythm...that's additionally played in compound form....i.e triplets per crochet or quarter note...

sounds difficult.... but the genius as normal is in the simplicity.....

  • I spent months trying to work that out and then when I heard the 4/4 rhythm on the ride cymbal I was like IT'S JUST 4/4? And then after I though about it it was just 4/4 with a swing, or as you said, triplets, and I kicked myself.

  • I know.... so did I.... ha ha... it's wonderful when you get it right in your head because I think you can sit back and relax...enjoy the song as it was composed... as an informed listener... and thus more appreciative of the song writing skills used to compose it.

  • Comment removed

  • its like meshuggah, 4/4 but it sounds way more complex than it actually is - meshuggah differ of course because they are absolutely CRUSHING, but just as talented..

what a song this is though

  • i don't know how you get 4/4. just because it's at 16-beat figure doesn't make it 4 measures of 4/4. the phrasing of the vocals, the emphases, the kick drum all suggest otherwise. try this on for size: six measures, 3/4-2/4-3/4-3/4-2/4-3/4. count it. the kicks are on the ones. i can even play it perfectly to this scheme. you would think that the 3/4-2/4 combo would really just be 5/8 (i say 5/8 not 5/4 because of the swing), but the phrasing doesn't feel right when i count it that way.

  • actually, i can see it being alternating 5/8-3/8.

  • You know i really see what you mean - it can be written as 4/4, to save having to write a different time signature at the start of each bar, but it is much smoother to count the different measures you described while actually playing it.

  • i concede. it's a bossa nova 3-2 clave. nicely done, naitsirkeprahs.

  • @birdrs Crdude is correct they subdivide the beats in an additive form which gives it the feeling of an odd time signature, at first i thought it was 11/8 subdivided like this...2,2,3,2,2...i was wrong , u can hear 4/4 if u listen to the high hat, and to me it sounds like this song is polyrhythmic as well.

  • Comment removed

  • it actually is 4/4. THey use what is called an additive rhythm which switches from the down beat to the upbeats quite often.

  • whoa

u made me look like a idiot xD

  • DrTchockfan you can´t compare music , its like trying to compare feelings, and its worst when you are comparing pink floyd with radiohead , music is relative...your opinion about music doesnt go higher than an opinion...

  • Even if I´m at the most ordinary supermarket and listen to Radiohead on my ipod it feels like paradise there. They´re so fuckin special!

  • JAGO BANGET SIHC

  • the greatest song ever to grace the top of the pops stage

  • beard is more man like, unless if the music is not from this planet, then I guess he should be more alien like, if I can say he.. like I just did, I hold on to that of what I say.. :)

always gets me in a lost and lonely mood this song.. its especially going strong when I look in my eyes at the mirror.. so beautiful and intimadating at the same time!

  • radiohead is great, and not since yesterday.theyre music is from another planet, very harmonic songs an lots of instruments, just breathtakin

  • maybe totp would still be around if more bands played live, if they could! Radiohead are best heard live

  • wow is all i can say. and i think he looks ok that he's unshaved. it means that he and they dont care about there image. unlike most other top of the pop acts.

  • Just amazing!!! I also REALLY respect the fact that they did not lip sync!!! Top of the pops is known for that...

    Radiohead!!!

  • what the hell is he singin at the end its cool

  • This song is so haunting..

  • theres not one bad radiohead album, all of them are awesome

  • so true. it's so tough to choose a favorite.

  • I would thumbs-up this, but then I remembered Pablo Honey existed. Ignoring that, you're right.

  • even the Sex Pistols lip synched and pretended on Top of the Pops. Bless Radiohead. Probably not overdone enough for the audience though.

  • thom rock i hope i c him live in vancouer

  • this song is epic. one of my favorites. i'm glad they played this song at the hollywood bowl.

  • this isnt one of my favorites...but live its amazing...i always liked the song but i still think they have much better...watch morning bell live and try not to piss urself...its impossable

  • probably in the top 5 things radiohead has ever done

  • when i first heard this song i thought it was pretty good...the more i listen to it i realize how great it really is.

  • I really admire the smaller things about this band as well as the obvious.

Humming/singing while playing piano to such an unusual tempo/beat is pretty awesome.

  • Man I love this song. & oeconomonster--I agree this song makes you feel weird-like a lot of Radioheads other songs. York seems to be in some crazy trance when he sings this. Radiohead will go down in music history (as big as Pink Floyd).

  • agree sept bigger

  • Radiohead is every bit pink floyds equals, if not superiors. They dont have the commercial value that Pink Floyd did but they are every bit as progressive and impressive. I prefer Radiohead. Can anyone Beat Yorke and Greenwood? the only close ones are Lennon McCartney

  • yea man that's a good point. what i love about pinkfloyd is that you can clearly see the influence threw radioheads music. they are both bands well worth there credit. personally i cant really say who i prefer i guess it depends on the mood im feeling at the time

  • Barat doherty.

  • you must be f***ing kidding me?!

  • that was a reply to hgldypgldy's comment by the way......

  • Comment removed

  • one of the best radiohead songs ever. just AMAZING.

  • HAO

  • by the way, this is the best song ever

  • I AGREE

  • rofl lets not use the term frontman anyways, Radiohead is the greatest, they make everyone else sound like nails down a chalkboard. Thom should get a nobel peace prize.

  • ha second that

  • .... so depressive and beutifull, this song must be radiohead best song, makes me feel so weird...

  • but i love radiohead just to let you knoww

  • if you don't like this kind of song, you don't love radiohead fully.

  • hey hey i saiI FUCKING LOVE IT:P

unless ur talking to someone else srry

  • stop this shitty behavour

  • Great performance! I almost feel like calling Radiohead a "band" is an understatement, and ye that alternate ending was just beautiful!.

  • if radiohead wasnt so good, thom yorke would be one goofy looking motherfucker

  • nothing wrong with unique looking people... God knows we have too many robots out there as it is. Go Thom... Radiohead is still the best band since Nirvana.

  • Ghostly

  • You are stupid. Thom York is a very great singer and Radiohead is one of the best bands

  • OMG i so fucking love the ending its to die for

  • you are stupid. i said they were good. go fuck yourself.

  • I know but you said Thom Yorke would be a one goofy looking motherfucker. I think you have no idea about a good front man. FY

  • once again...i never said he wasnt a good front man. i personally love radiohead and thom yorke. i simply believe that he is an odd looking human being in comparison to the rest of the world's population. please, stop thinking you are some sore of musical and or radiohead expert, because youre not, maybe then we will be able to end this ridiculous corespondence

  • alright... let us just end this...

  • Get madhatta's cock out of your mouth, Thom does not suck, just coz you do not like him, doesnt mean that he sucks, mindless idiot....

  • You don't understand it. madhatta6427 never said he wasn't good.

But who is a good frontman, when Thom is a bad one???

I think Thom Yorke is one of the best Frontmen.

  • i think thom looks a bit like hes lost his pot of gold .and he grumpy and he cant find it/.

  • beautiful beautiful song <3

  • If it's any concelation - this clip was recorded for TOTP2 - which is an ever so slightly more cooler programme than TOTP because it's written and presented by Steve Wright who has a bit more cred in the music business then Fern Cotton and Reggie!

  • Such a great song.
