I Have 10 babie rats they are going to grow their eyes today! so cute! so cute! three are black whith white dots on their heads. the rest are going to white and gray. we can't tell yet if their boys or girls! i looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo babie rats thow!
One of my boys used to have the same markings as the brown and white one at the top but the brown has almost completely gone now apart from a splodge on his head and a bit near his tail. these rats are so adorable, are they going to different homes or are you keeping them? i would want to keep all of them!
And only occasionally do wild ones carry anything, its usually only city rats, who live amongst our own filth that get sick, and even then, its the fleas that pester them, that get to us..
Woodland rats are generally more healthy if the area is not over populated :)
rats do not carry the bubonic plague its the fleas on the rats. domesticated rats (well at least mine) are should be flea free. The Bubonic plague is an infection of the lymphatic system, usually resulting from the bite of an infected flea.
They will only carry any kind of disease if they've been in contact with a carrier, which is extremely rare. Even wild rats rarely have any disease. I've been a wildlife rehabilitator for 6 years and wondered the same thing.
