@Techthisbuffalo First off, the fastest P4 available for a Dell 2400 is a 3.06ghz northwood, unless you have the modded powerleap prescott 3.2ghz P4... there is no 3.4 P4 that will work in a Dell 2400! Second, you will be lucky to run WoW at even low settings. WoW has repeatedly updated their graphics engine for each expansion.. if it were say 2004, then yeah medium with ease. Lastly, how much ram do you have?
@Coolbri1191 ok thanks for the info and i have 2 gigs of ram but at least tell me this would run runescape? at perhaps high or medium at least? ill probably use it for homework, netflix, and runescape and thats about it. it would do all of this easily right i still havent got the proccesor or the ati radeon 9250.
@Coolbri1191 gpu hmm i would say about 50 bucks im not gonna spend a fortune on an old system so yeah probably 50 bucks is the most ill spend preferably lower but the radeon 9250 is about the best i could find for pci. and one question why cant i run a 3.4 ghz pentium 4 even though its a 478 pin and the pentium 4 on mine is 478 pin?
@Techthisbuffalo chipset limitation. just dont get a 9250. old old old card with really old specs.. go for an 8400gs, it's not a bad card, and is at least recent. it's faster than this card too and it's 50 bucks. you can pick up a 3.06ghz P4 for $20 on ebay.
@Coolbri1191 k thanks but one problem it says it requires a 300w psu i only have a 200w psu and the cpu i have a 2.4 right now no ht will i be able to upgrade to a 3.06 without getting a better heatsink and fan?
@Techthisbuffalo your heatsink fan will be okay. i forgot you only had the wimpy 200w. at this point, you're upgrading so many things, it's better to just get a new computer. that dell you have is almost 10 years old. time for a new computer dude, start saving!
@Coolbri1191 lol man naah if i get a new pc im gonna get a good one this time i just want this to last me a year or so more till i get a job this summer and then get my new pc and i think ill stick with the 9250 since the only reason i really need it is for dual monitors and anyways it has to be better than the integrated right? ive estimated that this upgrade will cost me about 150-175 bucks so its much cheaper than a new pc.
my friend told me since my ram is only ddr i cannot use a video card that is ddr2 this is where im confused with how you can use a ddr2 video card maby he is jsut lying to me cuz he dont want my pc to be as good as his any tips on this hit me up i dont know all my specs but i know i have the dell demention 2400 same as yours 80gb harddrive had 256mbs of ram now has 2gbs soon added dvd player now i just need to know if i should get teh video card confused by my own friend
hey i found this procesor is this the one i need to get hey if you can find me one for cheap can you send me the link plz i need the best video card to i i got 2 video cards i got diamond 9250 suks no pix sharder sept 1.4 the other is older and is better go figure it has 2.0 pix sharder navida 5500 its ok i can run halo 1 doom 3 and tony hawk few gaes ok i jsut want to be able to play some new games the fun ones
wott dude my firend told me i couldnt upgrade my pc to play this game i got a 256 video card now ati damiond pci but i dont have the damn shader in the video card so it cuts me out of alot of games what shader do you got dude and did you add a processor
@heythisrocks shader 4.0 and yeah I upgraded that Dell's cpu to the highest it could take, the P4 3.06HT. There are much better PCI graphics cards out there now, like the 9500GT from Jaton. has 1GB of vram in a 128-bit interface. not bad imo.
@Coolbri1191 damm thats awsome thing im stuck on is i have ddr1 ram in now i dont know if my pc can take ddr 2 and if i bought a ddr 2 video card with ddr 1 ram would it mess it up and how the heck i tell the best processor i can get i have the same computer dimension 2400 i put 2 gigs of ram ddr1 and pci 256mb video card shader is only 1.4 which suks my processor right now is 2.40ghz intel celron
wish i knew more about computers suks so i could make my friend look dumb and so i can play skate
@heythisrocks that celeron is holding you back the most. a Pentium 4 1.8ghz is faster than that. ddr1 ram and ddr2 vram wont matter. ram and vram dont have to match. ddr1 ram and ddr2 ram DOES matter.. they simply wont fit in the slots. the highest cpu you could take is what i mentioned earlier (P4 3.06). you can pick one up on ebay for like $30 bucks
wow u can run this game thats awsome ihave tha same pc and im looking to be doing tha same thing only problem im a noob and dont know how to upgrade tha dam thing i got a 256 redion dimond video card for 70$ from tigerderrect but this thing can run only ps2 and xbox games which suks expeshully when i lagg sometimes i can run fable halfway good i got 2 gb of ddr1 ram i was toldi cant put a better video card in this thing cuz no duel ports and ddr1 ram i need ddr2 any tips id rather upgrade than p
I looked up their specs and found out the 8400gs us faster(only a bit) but the 2400Pro has 40 stream processors, compared to 16(8400gs). Going for the 8400gs since it does only a bit better than the pro in the games I want to play. :D
Your 350w PSU is just a normal ATX power supply right? I bought a card for my shitty Dell 2400, and of course it only has a 250w PSU. I read dell doesn't use proprietary power supplies anymore, but this PC is pretty old...
yes, its a normal 350w power supply, but i wouldnt worry about psu requirements because theres someone i know that ran this card with a 90w psu (and pentium 3) and no problems lol.
okay, good :3 I was considering this card, but I ended up with a 8400gs, but right after I bought it I read it needed at least 300w. I ordered a 400w psu from newegg, hopefully I'll be able to play games at least on low settings now...
The HD 2400 is easily way better. The FX 5200 definitely wouldn't be able to play this game period, or almost any game from 2007 or newer. The nVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS PCI would be a good choice for Nvidia though.
Oh, I just found out there is also a GeForce 8500 GT and 8600 GT in PCI, which easily blow the HD 2400 and 8400 GS out of the water in game performance. The 8600 GT PCI is available from Albatron and the 8500 GT PCI is available through Sparkle.
your best bet at newegg. you can probably run this on medium settings for tf2 (with P4). when i had this card for temporary setup in my new computer, i was able to run full res and high settings. depends on your cpu
damn, that's much better than my 8400 GS. in Crysis, i'm getting like 3-4 fps when i'm in those kinds of battles (lowest settings). in HL2, it lags almost every time i turn around and slows down in big areas like that. i think i might get this HD2400.
i had the same dell as you. i hated it. so i gutted it and put in a new mobo and proccesor and ram. i got a Phenom quad core @ ~ 2.5 GHZ and 2 gigs of ram.
hey crtifledgmane you are you wrong am running Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHZ OVER CLOCKED TO 3.1GHZ AND A 8400 512 DDR2 CARD WITH 2GB RAM AND MY 8400 PLAYS CRYSIS AT EVERYTHING MEDUM 1024 X 768 I GET LIKE 45 FRAMS PER SECOND
i got same card, but 512mb version from HIS,and also i have overclocked it like hell.but it still is a PCI card afterall,so the performance is just reasonable, though the cost of the card wasnt
I ordered this card 2 days ago to use it for HD video. I have a 95 Watt PSU...
I read that this card consumes about 14 Watt idle, is my PSU good enough or not? If not, I hope it'll blow up my whole "rig" so finally! i have an excuse for a newer one.
Btw, I have a single core AMD Turion mobile processor and a Mini-ATX mainboard. It was originally designed for car-PC's (and poor people) so maybe, just maybe a 95 Watt PSU could be sufficient?
theres a guy named u2konline that runs his HD2400 pci with a pentium III processor and 512mb of ram. he has a 90w psu, so i guess it could be sufficient.. if i was in your situation, i wouldnt do that, but i guess the 'new rig' excuse could work. lol
crysis sucks :O it's just like FarCry but with cooler weapons.... but farcry runs on my fuc%ing laptop... (1.8cpu, 1gb ram, a shitty intel graphics card 224 mb)
I finally found the problem and it was the drivers lol. Btw it can overclock like crazy.
I got a final completely stable overclock of 702core 603memory. Now i can run full aa with no fps lost in gta: sa and in nfsc my fps went up by 5-10 on 1280x1024 for an average 25. Its a beast when overclocked so if u need help pm me.
Can you reply to me or send me comment, providing the solution to this overclocking problem, because I as well can't overclock with RivaTuner or Ati tool. Help is appreciated.
i overclocked my old PCI X1300 with ATi Tool, but i do not overclock this one because im taking good care of it. i got drivers directly from ATi's website (ignore the pci-e only thing)
but it cant play half life 2 at 1680x1050 all high and achieve +30fps speeds right? first off, crysis was optimized for nvidia..big time, and 2nd, when it comes to PCI, bandwidth is limited so much that some games like crysis, wont make a difference on what pci gfx card you have.
sell the hd2400 and buy two powercolor hd4850 pcs extreme edition's in crossfirez config there about £133 each youll be set for about anutha couple of years in the gaming industry
im having problems with my new current rig. mobo is a piece of shit, so i might just get a P45 since theyre cheap and then crossfire a couple 4800 series
yeah.. my mobo looked amazing on paper.. but performance (is kinda there) and reliability is not. hoping the next bios update will fix my current ram issues.
yea i dont know if there is a 512mb pci graphics card but i jsut got a diamond hd 2400 pro pci 256mb ddr2 and it shows up as 512mb plus i can push crysis on all low settings and get about 30fps
For everyone who is wondering what is going on in the PCI world. There is the Sparkle 8500GT and 4 different 8400GS PCI versions from sparkle. Albatron has the 8500GT & 8600GT. And i just got word that AMD Is releasing the 3450 for the PCI bus. Pci video cards gets the job done if you have the right CPU.
Hey man, good to know you are gaming with pci. I have a visiontek pci card, 2400. Can't play crysis good, because of my p3/600mhz. But like i said before, with the right setup, usign pci cards , you can play the lastest games.
nah there is a PCI version made my Sparkle and Albatron. cant find a Albatron for sale anywhere, but Sparkle is FINALLY in stock at TigerDirect for $99. also, Albatron made a 8600GT PCI with DDR3 memory and an HDMI port. look at those websites.
Could you make a video of ur self running cod4+ battlefield 2142
I plan on getting that exact same card and i wanna know how fast those games gonna be running
Your the only person with PC specs almost exact same to what i have.... so what ever fps u get might be a little bit lower cause of my 2.79ghz and u got 3 ghz
ddr ram 333 mhz-
pentium 4 3.4 gigahertz-
128 mb ati radeon 9250-
7,200 rpm 250 gig hardrive-
all in a dell dimension 2400 can someone plz tell me if this could run world of warcraft at medium settings?? plz help?!

Can you reply to me or send me comment, providing the solution to this overclocking problem, because I as well can't overclock with RivaTuner or Ati tool. Help is appreciated.
maxpower201 3 years ago
did you overclock and if so could u plz tell me how u did it, what program u used, and where you got your drivers from
FSDU5 3 years ago
i overclocked my old PCI X1300 with ATi Tool, but i do not overclock this one because im taking good care of it. i got drivers directly from ATi's website (ignore the pci-e only thing)

i dont think something is quite right there.
my 6200 plays the crysis demo at the same speed on a worse system
dan171717d 3 years ago
but it cant play half life 2 at 1680x1050 all high and achieve +30fps speeds right? first off, crysis was optimized for nvidia..big time, and 2nd, when it comes to PCI, bandwidth is limited so much that some games like crysis, wont make a difference on what pci gfx card you have.
Coolbri1191 3 years ago
hey what is the PSU requirements to run this PCI card??. i have a no brand name ATX400W cheapish PSU. do u think that will run it.?? ;)
seanprice123 3 years ago
most definitely.
this card sucks up less power than my old x1300. and the hd 2400 only needs like a 200-250w psu i believe..
Coolbri1191 3 years ago
so all i need is a "old" 32-bit PCI slot!! NOT PCI-E or express??
seanprice123 3 years ago
sell the hd2400 and buy two powercolor hd4850 pcs extreme edition's in crossfirez config there about £133 each youll be set for about anutha couple of years in the gaming industry
hudders123 3 years ago
buy crossfirz i meant crossfirex and btw two 4850 pcs extreme's can go on very high all maxed out settings on crysis wid about 40fps ot more =D
hudders123 3 years ago
yeah thatd be damn nice.
im having problems with my new current rig. mobo is a piece of shit, so i might just get a P45 since theyre cheap and then crossfire a couple 4800 series
Coolbri1191 3 years ago
yeh i hate picking mobos as you want to have money left but some are cheap but are peices of shit
hudders123 3 years ago
yeah.. my mobo looked amazing on paper.. but performance (is kinda there) and reliability is not. hoping the next bios update will fix my current ram issues.
Coolbri1191 3 years ago

For everyone who is wondering what is going on in the PCI world. There is the Sparkle 8500GT and 4 different 8400GS PCI versions from sparkle. Albatron has the 8500GT & 8600GT. And i just got word that AMD Is releasing the 3450 for the PCI bus. Pci video cards gets the job done if you have the right CPU.
Peace & Enjoy!

stuperstoner 3 years ago
eh its just an 80mm i picked up at radioshack for $1.50... i dont have any other small fans laying around and no room to put one near it.

Burnoutss 3 years ago
Hey man, good to know you are gaming with pci. I have a visiontek pci card, 2400. Can't play crysis good, because of my p3/600mhz. But like i said before, with the right setup, usign pci cards , you can play the lastest games.
BTW DO YOU KNOW THERE IS A 8500GT PCI out?
u2konline 3 years ago
That's impossible...
hdwblade 3 years ago
Whats impossible?
Playing Crysis on a PIII or a 8500GT PCI card?
u2konline 3 years ago
an 8500GT... as long as you're talking about Nvidia chipsets...
hdwblade 3 years ago
nope, they do exist :)
Coolbri1191 3 years ago
How? Link me to it. There's a really shitty ATI 8500 but not a Nvidia 8500GT unless it's a PCI-Express/Pci-Express 2.0. I promise you that.
hdwblade 3 years ago
nah there is a PCI version made my Sparkle and Albatron. cant find a Albatron for sale anywhere, but Sparkle is FINALLY in stock at TigerDirect for $99. also, Albatron made a 8600GT PCI with DDR3 memory and an HDMI port. look at those websites.
