When I worked crash/rescue back in the early 80's the 727's were still going strong. Awesome plane. The 737's were just begining to edge them out of the top spot for many airlines.
I used to fly on deltas, eastern, and northwest, also Northeast yellow bird 727s,damn i miss those birds, always gave great flights loved the powerful take offsif i were at the airport spotting, loved the load noise and feel the ground shake when she took off, todays jets cant compare to the 727-737 classic and DC9s
"nowhere near as loud as an unhushed bac 1-11!!!!!"
I agree. That little bugger of a plane, the twin-engine BAC 1-11, could wake up the dead for miles around (figuratively speaking) with its RR Spey engines in full takeoff power. Extremely deafening. The only other plane that I can think of that can match or even exceed the takeoff noise of a BAC 1-11 is the Vickers VC10. But sadly, these two are very close to retirement altogether.
I'd place the 727s just a notch below those two planes.
@113inthemorning I am with you 100% on this one! This indeed is one of the absolute best videos of a Boeing 727 taking off that I have seen on here. The thunder of the engines as it bore down that runway before becoming airborne was simply incredible!
When i was going on my holidays we usually got the 727 n the engines where always underneath the wing how come in this 727-200 the enignes r underneath the tail wing? N i've seen the 727 lke this unless im n a 737! lol XD
@Conor3914 Yeah man, I guess you were in a 737. They both look very similar. As far as I know, all the 727s have their engines near the tail, not under the wings.
@Conor3914 The airplane was close to it's MTOW. When the PF started rotating, it took a substantial amount of time for the aircraft to lift off of the runway. From the sound of the engines and the visible position of the flaps and slats, both were configured correctly for takeoff.
@NickGarrettIsCool u seem to no alot about planes my friend ^^! Have u any experiences with planes r are u just one those people who seem interested in planes and like to have knowlegde of what their talking about! lol Just like me! Welll i have been on a plane auite a few times going on holidays! (thats how i became soo much interested in them) lol
yeah, man... great sound, I am lucky enough to hear the DHL 727 taking off in Salt Lake City International airport, I saw it coming onto the runway, but had to leave for the bus, just before I got on it, the whole damn parking garage was shaking, rumbling, vibrating through me.. holy shit, I would love to go through that again and again.
i just wanna know how come when the 727 takes off, it always looks like its about to strike the tail? but the Tupolev Tu-154, which looks very similar to the 727, doesn't? its crazy!
With this mechanical steering plane you really enjoy the flight, not so today. Is the operating system some kinda windows or has the trial expired ? LOL
Thats how a jet should sound. With these newer aircraft (although I have to admit that some of them are pretty cool) whats the point of being a several hundred ton powerhouse if you're not gonna shout about it?
Sweet. I and my fellow students used to watch them takeoff from the Daytona Beach airport when I attended Embry-Riddle back in 1981. Nothing else like them!
Totally awesome sound on takeoff! You are to be commended for this fantastic video! Of all the planes I have flown on, the Boeing 727 is the only one I haven't flown on. I hope I get the opportunity this August when I fly on American Airlines this August when I go to Atlanta,G.A.
I miss the drama you used get with 727's at an airport. You would hear an impossibly load roar, and see nothing, wondering what mysterious entity had gone up in the sky. If you were lucky you might have seen a trail of black smoke gushing out of the back of a faraway dot high in the heavens, with the echoing roar spilling all around you. The sound at this point was so non-directional and spread out that it didn't even seem to be originating from the aircraft at all. It added to the mystique.
@vembermember Lead Sled is a 207, the 727 was "Miss Piggy", but most left in service now have -17s or -217s (outboard only) so they might as well be "Personal Rocket Ships".

BAC 1-11s with its Rolls Royce Spey engines in full throttle are noisier than the 727s.
I know because I used to live under the flight path of those little twin-engine planes. Those planes sound like jet fighters when taking off.

vroomba03 why is the 727 louder than most other jets?
============================================================
It's a Stage 2 aircraft.
The technology for quieter engines just wasn't there when 727s were built in the '60's.
You think 727s are the loudest?? Try watching up close the BAC 1-11 take off.
But sadly though, tighter noise restrictions have forced most BAC 1-11s to retire from service.
