  • I have a total thyroidectomy coming up due to Graves Disease; What do I have to expect?

  • Im having surgery for a total thyroidectomy b/c of Graves Disease. What do I have to expect?

  • @1170bt just being honest but get a second opinion there are other treatments like radiation but thats still bad though search around for hospitals even in other states will cost a hell of lot more but the long term investment will pay back ten fold dont believe the first thing u hear research reasearch reasearch most importantly kepp yourself with a happy mind

  • Mine is June 14 tomorrow

  • @DJRenee really!! i hope it all goes well for you

  • loved ur video, i have my surgery done on monday june 6 2011. and i feel great

  • i have to have my surgery tomorrow. i just want to ask how long did it take for your throat to not be sore?

  • I want to commend you on your very open, honest and sharing nature. I had two of those surgeries. I wish they'd have taken the full T the first time, but they took the side with the biggest tumor and tested. The surgery screwed with my emotions, ability to reason and I was unpleasant.

I wanted to cry (a lot) but I'm not as brave as you.

Thank you so much for sharing this with youtube.

Anyone interested in the post-op period of a T surgery should watch and listen to Jenella. She's wonderful.

  • Thanks for the video! I've having either subtotal or total next wednesday (Dec 29th) going in under the hopes it will just be subtotal to take out the left side as I have a large goiter. Watching all the videos o you tube have helped a lot!

  • Wow you are brave...I have graves disease and on my second relapse with test results being pretty bad. I would say I will need surgery. Thank you for this video giving me insight into the process. Are you hypo now? How do you feel after Surgery.

Thyroid issues are pretty lonely as no one really understands but just to let you know you are not alone on this issue.

  • Baby, you video was very moving. I understand your tears. I had my thyroid taken out and I was shopping 4 days later. It has now been a week, and still can't talk. I don't care because I am going to live. I didn't have a tube in me, and second day I ate Chinese:)) No worries girl. How are you doing??

  • I am meeting with surgeon next month to have my the left half of my thyroid removed as I have a very large goiter. I've never had surgery- so I'm scared of being put under anasesia more than anything, I just hate feeling drugged and think I would panic as the drugs take effect... Im also no so keen on the waking up and feeling like I can't breathe... (I have panic attacks from being hyperthyroid) If you have any thoughts for me that would be great! I'll feel a lot better after seeing my Drs too!

  • did you have your whole thyroid taken out?

  • i hope you are great now.the pain you are in is hard to see i dont know you but feel your pain.god bless you your strong..i wish i could give you a hug...

  • God bless u. I know that overwhelming feeling. The emotions are just too much sometimes. I will be having this surgery soon. I went to the dr. last week and he got the ultrasound readout and went to his room saying "i have to do surgery" that scared me. Hopefully it's not cancerous.

    thanks for sharing.

  • I am going to have this surgery in 2 weeks, I am soooo scared, I might cancel!! Not sure if this vid helped or not! Thanks for sharing!!

This coming Monday Ill have a total thyroidectomy; I cant tell you how scared I am! Ive done plenty of research so I roughly know what to expect. Please could you answer me the some questions?

How did you feel in yourself after the op?

How quickly did you start putting on weight (thats if at all) and is that back under control?

How was eating after the op? How are you towards others now? I heard some people have mood swings and are emotional. Many thanks,
