Can there be anything more inspiring? The former enemies singing together and when the very very traditional Soviet song comes the people in the audience (almost all Finns) are clapping hands to the rhythm? :) :)
Whoa my Rus friend , i truly did not mean to be offensive to you or any other Russian for that matter.I apologize. Please allow me to clarify, i only understand English and im just afraid that if i actually knew what they are singing it would lose its luster to me .Ya know like what Shakespeare said,"Would a rose by any other name smell as sweet?"Additionally i really enjoy listening to this song it makes me feel well, Russian. On behalf of all Americans thank you for the AK-47.We love that rifle.
The Song of the Volga Boatmen is a well-known traditional Russian song and it is a genuine barge-haulers' shanty.
The song, also called The Volga Burlak's Song, was inspired by Repin's famous painting, Burlaks on the Volga, depicting the suffering of the people in the depth of misery in Czarist Russia.
The song was popularised by Feodor Chaliapin, and has been a favourite concert piece of bass singers ever since. Glenn Miller took the song to #1 in the US charts in 1941.
A fantastic concert! I was lucky enough to be there at the time in Senaatintori

The bass soloist is the great Valery Gavva in the "Volga boatmen song" and the tenor is an other great soloit, Leonid Pshenishny in "Happy Together".
Best greetings from France!

The Red Army Choir and a Finnish rock band singing 'Happy Together' in 1993. The cold war finally ended on that very moment ^__^
