  • I used to be a guardsman of the Hand of the King, but then I took a dagger to the eye.

  • I fucking hate those stupid kung fu swing sounds

  • another amazing scene, so many in season 1 roll on april...

  • dagger = gay, sinister!

  • if only that guard hadnt intervened..

  • its interesting that so many choose the outcome of this fight by referencing jaimes persona in the book. this is the film adaptation, not the book. in the book jaime would have won no doubt. but in this fight ned is clearly winning, because in the show ned is the personification of battle and honor, whereas jaime is a bit of an untested cocky asshole. in not hating on jaime, im just saying this isnt the book, and jaime never has the advantage in this fight

  • @mattsparrow91 and if jaime hadnt meant to kill ned he wouldnt have thrusted at his face

  • fuck that fucking fucker

  • Greatest. Television. Series. Ever. Made.

    Period.

  • in book Ned's sword "Ice" seemed bigger and more dangerous to me than this nonsense

  • @botndd ice is the sword he uses to execute the guy in the first episode, that one is huge.

  • I think Jaime would have won the fight, he is considered to be among the finest swordfighters within the seven kingdoms. This duel appears to be more like a game for him, since he cant seriously hurt or kill Ned Stark without risking his brothers health and life. And i think this is why Jaime is so pissed after this Lannister soldier stabbed Ned Stark in the back. Read the books, there is noone who wants to fight a 1 vs 1 against Jaime Lannister. And they fear him with good reason.

  • @McBaal Yeah but this is Ned Stark we're talking about(With a badass sword called Ice), he's more than a match.

  • @McBaal True but Jamie lannister seems to have a certain fear of Ned so he must respect him as a fighter and know hes dangerous.

  • Something that people also seem to ignore is their ages. Ned is older and currently out of shape. Jaime is in his prime. Now.....Ned would have to be like the best swordsman ever in order to beat Jaime at his current age and form. Sorry to those who may be disapointed but Ned was never a legendary swordsman like Jaime. Jaime was considered the greatest in his generation, was practicing with the likes of Dayne when he was 16....there is no way a retired Ned can match him.

  • @Ruimas28 Isn't Ned only in his mid-thirties?

  • @Ruimas28 Would have been nice though...

  • oberyn martell vs gregor = some epic shit

  • Jaime's a dick

  • Is anyone else bummed that we don't see Ned kickass, blade to blade in the show? :/

  • @ela1191 Definitely agree. I especially wanted to see these two fight again, with Ned obviously victorious.

  • @jcustodio25 Unlikely. Jamie really was one the best swordsman in the realm.

Read the books, Jamie becomes one of the more likeable characters weirdly enough.

  • Bronn vs Jaime. Now that would be a fight to see.

  • @comradet0m Bronn would be a tier 3 swordsman, Ned tier 2, Jaime tier 1.

  • @comradet0m Bronn usually wins when he can outsmart his opponent in dirty cheap tricks. Jaime is not that stupid in battle at least

  • Comment removed

  • is Jaime played by the guy who played the stretchy dude in fantastic four? I forget his name

  • @KeusFrench Different person bro.

  • @KeusFrench No, the other guy is currently starring on another TV show.

  • isn't jaime supposed to be right handed and a certain event that happens later on forces him to use his other hand for the first time?

  • @AlvisVelthomer This video is image flipped, he was using his right hand.

  • And its obvious that Jaime would win the fight, but not like everyone puts it "Ned wouldn't last a second against Jaime in the books" Thats just too much

  • "Brienne remembered her fight with Jaime Lannister in the woods. It had been all that she could do to keep his blade at bay. He was weak from his imprisonment, and chained at the wrists. No knight in the Seven Kingdoms could have stood against him at his full strength, with no chains to hamper him. Jaime had done many wicked things, but the man could fight!"

  • "Robert had been stronger than him, to be sure. The White Bull Gerold Hightower as well, in his heyday, and Ser Arthur Dayne. Amongst the living, Greatjon Umber was stronger, Strongboar of Crakehall most likely, both Cleganes for a certainty. The Mountain’s strength was like nothing human. It did not matter. With speed and skill, Jaime could beat them all."

  • @CmdrMander Yeah that's Jaime talking, hes arrogant and full of pride and he's constantly putting people down in his head, unlike Ned whose humble and gives others way too much credit. But either way if this scene was so out of the book then Martin wouldn't let it be on the show since he overlooked everything and the writers went to him for almost everything

  • @killzonephx Actually, they killed off a character he said would be important in a later book. They added an unnecessary scene against the author's wishes.

So no, I wouldn't say he agreed with everything in the show.

  • @killzonephx Also, my other post was Brienne's observation of their fight. She thought he would have been unbeatable in his prime, and this is from someone that beat Loris' arse.

And he's arrogant because he had never been beaten in a one on one fight. Brienne (the brute of a woman that knocked Loris' face in) barely held him off after he was half starved from sitting in a dungeon and in manacles.

  • Fans of the books would realize Jaime would of won, maybe not with ease, but if you read the books, Jaime was undoubtedly the better fighter. Someone just exposed to the TV series would probably perceive Jaime without much appreciation for his skill and I could easily see why people would believe Eddard Stark could of matched or even beat Jaime.

  • In the books, Ned wouldn't have lasted nine seconds against Jaime. Before he lost his hand he was on the same level as Arthur Dayne.

  • @CmdrMander Jaime himself said he was never as good as Arthur Dayne and Ned actually lasted against Arthur Dayne.

  • @killzonephx Ned said that Dayne would of killed him if it wasn't for Howland Reed.

  • @ownedinthe2260 yeah of course no one said Ned was better than Dayne but still he did go against probably the best swordsmen in the seven kingdoms that day and still lived, which means he is not a bad swordsman himself, and again Jaime was not as good as Dayne.

  • @ownedinthe2260

Ned is also pretty humble and modest. Maybe you missed that throughout the entire first book.

  • @killzonephx Arthur Dayne and the other two kingsguard fought Ned and six others. 7 vs 3. All of ned's friends were skilled fighters. Ned and Reed were the only ones to walk out of that alive, and Ned said Dayne would have killed him if Reed hadn't saved him. Stark was a competent swordsman, but nowhere near Dayne or Jaime's level.

  • there are no accidents in film(for the most part), so the fact that they show the discouraged look on jaimes face at the end is pretty significant to me. at least thats how i read it. also in the books jaime is tougher but given that the author of the books was there for alot of the filming and didnt mind this change, i dont mind it either

  • i love the choreography of this scene, and it seems to me that stark was winning, at first jaime comes all cocky, then stays cocky, but by the end of the fight he never really has a step on ned, and if forced onto the defensive by neds counterattacks whenever he trys to push. also you can see it in his face at the end that he'd lost his confidence, while the last look on neds face before he is stabbed is a confident one.

  • @mattsparrow91 at no point in the fight does it look like Ned is winning, Jaime looks to be enjoying every minute of it. At most they fight as equals, but anyone who has read the books knows that the Kingslayer is regarded as one of the finest swordsmen in the realm if not THE finest at this point in the story and far outmatches Ned who isnt actually regarded as a oarticularly good swordsman at all. This fight doesnt even occur in the books

  • @cocaineuk87 i know its different in the books. but im not referring to the books. and while i certaintly respect your opinion i used to work in film, as have many of my familly, some of whom have won emmys, and the way its shot seem to me like ned had taken the upper hand at the END of the fight, jaime looked to be enjoying it at first. also like someone else pointed out the writer (whose name i always forget) oversaw alot of the filming and didnt have a prob with it. you make goodpoints tho :)

  • SEAN BEAN Y U ALL DIE IN YO MOVIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • @DerpRohDah

    lol so true

  • It is useless to make suppositions about who could be the best in a situation or another. Men's value is seen in action.

  • Damn I feel like playing Soul Calibur 5

  • Whoa is Jaime left handed? P.S. try and imagine Sean bean without armor and a sword

  • @angryhobbitthatcould Hahaha that's weird. He is supposed to be very right handed, and that's an important detail in the story.

  • A guard's last thoughts: "Hey, I might get a raise if I cripple that Stark fellow for Lord Jamie!" (Jabs his spear into Eddard Stark's calf; Jamie Lannister starts walking up to the guard) "Hurray! A thousand gold dragons all for me!"

  • THe video is flipped!

  • @xis4arkus must be flipped or youtube will take it down for copyright infringement

  • I hate Jaime Lannister. For luck he loses a hand.

  • Great video.

  • ...why is Jaime fighting with his left hand? ..FAIL

  • @MORPHLINGx Read the description

  • i used to be an aventurer like you until i took a spear to the knee

  • This is actually pretty crappy... In the book it was more of a slaughter where Ed only survives through his men dying while getting him out the way.

Plus there's no way in hell he's as good a swordsman as Jaime xD

  • @MrAnonomous100 Jamie was a tourny fighter, not a warrior. In this sort of battle Jamie would probably win, but Eddard Stark won Robert the war

  • @Phyrexius69 Actually Jaime was known more as an excellent swordsman that for his tourney fights...he's a good jouster but not the best, hes been unhorsed by Loras Tyrell and Sandor Clegane

  • @MrAnonomous100 There were plenty of references to Neds excellent swordsmanship, which is why I really really enjoyed the tete de tete they were having, and yelled at the screen as the bastard poked him through his thigh.

So yeah, Jaime might've won, but I hardly think it definite.

  • @MrAnonomous100 Word

  • Hector and Achilles in essence....Jamie is of course Achilles because pure combat is his only passion....Stark is a good warrior but is also greatly concerned with the politics of the realm...Jamie's mind is not clouded by this things...He only wanted his brother back must the same as Achilles wanted vengeance for his cousin...in the end Ned would have succumbed...least not after a valiant effort no doubt...

  • Perchè in questo video sono tutti mancini?

  • @AquilaImperialeX non so come si dice in italiano xo' e come se lo vedesi in uno specchio!

  • @mrbigck81 Ah, grazie.

  • Why is everyone left handed?

  • Comment removed

  • @FedeSkillArg Lmao, The video is mirrored

  • @holeymoley0 The video is mirrored :)

  • Jaime's guard felt it necessary to intervene, as Eddard was truely posing a threat to their beloved lord. Hahaha! Oh Jaime's exaggerated abilities, how I love thee.

  • @AlphaGinga Be real with me how many of the books have you read? one?

  • @boteromi Did you mean oldest son? and ya he lost a battle because he was rash, but i never said Jaime was a good commander, Ned is the better commander of the two. In single combat however Ned (and Rob for that matter) wouldnt stand a chance

Jaime even challenges Robb to single combat after he is camptured and Robb who's obviously not an idiot turns him down.

  • @boteromi Jaime = poor tactician, but unreal swordsman. Also in combat being impulsive is arguably a good thing.

Being a poor tactician has nothing to do with the fact that if he faught Ned in single commbat he would wipe the floor with him.

  • @AlphaGinga I found this about Ned

Sansa remembes seeing Bronze Yohn Royce, an average kinght, defeat Ned and Ser Rodrik Cassel in the practice yard at Winterfell

  • @boteromi LOL average.

  • @AlphaGinga Haha fair, but he's still no where near the tourney knight Jaime is, I mean let's face it he got beaten by Jorah lol.

  • @boteromi Jaime's skill that he presents in organized tournaments are impressive for sure. And I'm not discrediting him prowess, he's a very talented knight. But in the heat of battle he's far too impulsive, irrational and controled like a pawn by his father. It exposes him to weakness.

  • @boteromi Yes and Jaime was bested by Ed's youngest son Robb. Even while being massively inexperienced. Every dog has his day ;)

  • The Lannisters are perfectly casted (most roles are), and Jammie is every bit the bastard he should be. It kinda makes me proud that the actor is a fellow countryman!!

  • I cannot wait for all the Lannisters to die. Except Tyrion. He's cool.

  • GO GO GO BOROMIR !!

  • I do not understand why jaime lanister hits the soldier, he had just saved his life...

  • @FedeSkillArg Honor.

  • @mcnealylindsey The lanister family dont have honor!

  • @FedeSkillArg He's PO'ed that the guy interfered in the duel since Jaime was enjoying it. Of course, if Jaime killed Ned in the duel it would've been way worse which is why Tywin was glad he didn't kill him.

  • @FedeSkillArg Are you kidding me? Jaime Lannister is a way better swordsman then Ned Stark.

  • @boteromi The book describes their swordsmanship as being very even. Eddard is doubted because he is humble and far more honourable when it comes to battle.

  • @AlphaGinga It certainly dores not describe them as even. Ned is an average swordsman, better then most common folk, but nothing of note when compared to other lords. He is a very good commander, but his sword skills are pretty much "good enough" to get him through battles alive. Jaime Lannister is arguably the best swordsman in Westeros. If you don't believe me I can start quoting.

  • @boteromi Yeah it does... If you've read the books Eddard is very humbled but has battled very talented warriors. Even Barristan reveres Eddard's abilities. Jaime is way too rash, and picks his battles wisely, as he did in this sequence. Eddard was unprepared and caught off guard, and Jaime was still unable to expose him to weakness. But as Jaime is over-confident and rash, Eddard is very impressive at being patient. I emplore you to start quoting, but also take into consideration quotes of Ed.

  • Comment removed

  • @AlphaGinga 3)He cuts down like 12 guys in the wispering woods when greatly outnumbered, Rob is lucky to be alive. 4) I wins like almost every tourney ever. 5)Youngest night ever in the kingsguard.

  • @boteromi he was raised to the kingsguard to insult his father and deny him is heir.

  • @Soaker1231 True, it's not one of the strongest arguements about his fighting abilties, but if he wasn't at least a pretty good night this couldnt't have happened. Also the fact that Aerys did this as a slight does not mean Jaime didn't deserve. Barrastian definitly thought he deserved it, although he thought it should have waited a couple years.

  • @Soaker1231 No Jamie wanted to be closer to his sister

  • @boteromi In a fair fight, I do believe Jaime would have fallen to Eddard, Eddard is massively underrated in terms of swordsmanship. And in turn his abilities are not considered. Jaime would likely take the victory in the heat of an actual battle setting, if he rushed Eddard, due to being heavily armoured and hot-headed. But in this sequence they are both unarmoured, And Jaime could not hope go the distance. :)

  • @boteromi Jaime is revered by the ignorant citizens of the Westeros. As his father Tywin chooses battles "wisely" ensuring victory due to unfair odds. So Jaime rides in at his fathers command to reap the spoils of war. As a result he is feared and thought to be a tremendous warrior. He has notable victories over lesser opponents. His abilities are massively exaggerated and this is owed to his father. As an individual Jaime is rash and impulsive. A talented warrior for sure, but not the best.

  • @AlphaGinga A common error readers make. :)

  • @boteromi

Ned wasn't even using Ice, he was using a longsword. Jaime incest Lannister woulda got womped on if Ned was using the sword he's accustomed to

  • @lawlwtfcakes0605 Wouldn't have mattered Jaime is just plain better. Also Jaime is not using his fighting style of choice here either, which is sword and shield.

  • @boteromi

Wouldn't have mattered? Ice was passed to Ned so it was pretty much a custom of his fam to be proficient in wielding it.. I'm sorry but common logic says the man trained to use a 6 foot sword > the man using your generic sword and shield. Ned would have had 3x the reach as Jaime

Jaime is famous for picking and choosing who he fights, this video is a perfect example, ridin up on his ass at unawares with 15 other dudes. no other way to put it, hes a coward.

  • @lawlwtfcakes0605 K I'll concede that Ned would obviously do better with Ice (although there's also the whole debate about how Ned doesn't actually fight with Ice and it's more ceremonial) I dont buy into that, but still. I'm just saying better's not enough for a slightly above average sword fighter like Ned to beat Jaime. and lol 3x the reach He'd have 2x the reach max.

  • @lawlwtfcakes0605 Jaime is not a coward haha read the books

  • @lawlwtfcakes0605 Hes not famous for pick and choosing whoe he fights. have you even read the books? he is highly arrogant about his abilities and will challenge practically anyone to a one on one duel.

  • @FedeSkillArg YEEEEEEEEEE! Eddards that hero of the book, Jaime's barely even a villain. Heroes always kill the lesser villains, its a fact.

    Eddard> Jaime

  • @RecBookHero .......ya but eddards dead

  • Ned wasn't using Ice, simple.

  • ned is such a boss

  • must..avoid..skyrim...arrowtotheknee....joke..

  • @albusfr Someone had to tie me up for three days to stop me from posting one.

  • Gentleman those are longswords, Syrio Forel would not be pleased with your grip

  • @dreamersjournal I'm pretty sure Ned uses a two-handed greatsword (Ice), at least in the books. Jaime on the other hand...yeah I'm not sure why he's holding his sword like that lol

  • @IAmRodyle Jaime's probably just dicking around

  • @dreamersjournal Actually now that I make a little comparison that is definitely not Ice that Stark is using here. Shame really. Maybe fighting two-handed is the only way he knows to swing a sword effectively, regardless of type?

  • If they actualy fought in the novel Lannister probably would have won, but the novel didnt have SEAN FUCKING BEAN.

  • To be honest, Jaime still would have won. He's 10x the swordsman, and half the age.

  • @DanielleMcOrmond Tell that to Dayne and Hightower.

  • @aquanaut145 lol, but seriously that was 7 vs 3 guys and Ned only even survived because of Howland Reed who was a fucking warg and sorcerer. so you do the math.

  • @DanielleMcOrmond What if ned stark had Ice? Plus, experience does count a lot in a fight. Im actually really dissapointed that they killed ned, he was pretty much the entire series. We didnt even get to see him fight once in the book. And i mean seriously, it was uncalled for on so many levels. Why make such an awesome character then have him die such a pointless death? Why make the hero of the novel lose?

  • @RecBookHero wasnt bad enough to carry the epicness of the series as you shall see in april.

  • it's so accurate how pissed jaime gets when that guy shoves a lance through ned's leg

  • He took a spear to the knee. well, almost.

  • Jamie Lannister reminds me of Prince Charming from the movie Shrek.

  • @dms5805 me to lol my mum thought he was hot untill i pointed that out lol

  • Comment removed

  • @dms5805 HAHAH HE DOES.

  • @tychul Lol, i think i'm falling in love....

  • rest in peace Jory ;__;

  • @CaptainPengu I won't ever forgive Jaime for killing Jory, but then again, I haven't forgiven him since he pushed Bran out the window.

  • Sean Bean can still kick ass, even at his age.

  • @fantasticmoose Agreed, great character actor.

  • In the book they are mounted while doing this. And Eddard breaks his calf when his horse falls over, not a spear through the thigh.

  • @Phergan I didn't read the first one because I wanted to read both 2nd and 3rd before the next season, but I remember reading that the one that stabbed stark from behind was named a Knight or even a Ser, I don't remember exactly.

  • @TheVynka A Knight is a Ser.

  • Comment removed

  • 1:43 badass!

  • Lord Snark vs. Jamie Trollister

  • You poor fans of Stark , you have no idea whats going down ...

  • They nailed the casting for Jaime and Ned. NAILED. IT.

  • @FreyaXo8 Hard to believe that Jamie's actor is Danish

  • I don't like how stark's men died so fast...how the fuck is Robb going to fight the Lannistars with these kind of men???

  • @jokerisnomak Robb wont lose a single battle

  • @SL0W lol classic

  • @jokerisnomak The 2 household guards took a javelin to the heart. Nothing much they could do here. Jory, as you can see, was killing Lannisters. He seemed weak because he was fighting Jaime Lannister, arguably the finest swordsman alive at that time. And well, Ned doesn't have an eye behind him, so he takes a spear to the foot. SPOILER: Rob never loses a battle and was going to take Moat Cailin from the south, a feat never before achieved, but the Red Wedding happened.

  • @xxlCortez they avoid being deleted just because they're mirrored?? Well that explains that if so..

  • @lukeaaronfreeman101 They normally use some video algorithm thing to automatically detect this stuff and get it shut down. Mirroring it tends to fool it. It's not like some intern at HBO is combing through Youtube to find copyrighted material. It sucks but it works for now.

  • @mongotesttest hahahah imagine that one bloke who's job it is to scroll through vidoes all day for copyright xD

  • @lukeaaronfreeman101 easy enough to see, Jaime dismounted on the wrong side.

  • as a jaime fanboy this kinda pisses me off. ned was way past his prime and if they did fight in the books ned would've gotten slaughtered.

  • @equallyeasilyfuqyou Not really. As I recall, Ned is younger in the book. That would mean he was still a rough fighter to contend with. And did you forget? Jaime doesn't want Ned dead because of Tyrion. He's holding back here.

  • I read the book, but they wasn't fought in it. I think this was because they thought it would be badass.

  • @xxlCortez Well, they were right. I prefer this scene over the book. Makes more sense for Jaime, too. He lives to fight.

  • Just a quick question: Did Jamie kill the guard or just knock him out??

  • @dobadobadooo I think that only knocked out. Come on, he's not Joffrey ;)

  • @Sukonz how would that work since Oathkeeper is made from a melted down Ice??

  • Mistake!! Jaime is fighting with his left hand in this video, but he's a right handed fighter in the books... anyone that's read them knows what I mean ;) no spoiler intended

  • @lukeaaronfreeman101 I think it's not a mistake, the vid is mirrored so it avoid being deleted.

  • @lukeaaronfreeman101 HAH! i also though about that xD guess he wont mind so much in the series then :P

  • I remember reading book 1 & 2 and thinking "wow; Jaime is such a douche." Hated every moment of that character. Funny how him becoming a POV character in book 3 and the stuff that goes down in book 3 changed my oppinion, now my personal favorite character. Folks who only watch the series have no idea what's coming.....they know nothing.

  • @mongotesttest dont comment on spoilers in your videos plz, they stay at the top

  • @mongotesttest The northerners are called wolfs. Those who follow the starks.

  • why is jaime fighting with his left hand?

  • @rosskewl26 the picture is flipped i think.
