  • Love this song!

  • God bless you, Donny.

  • please tell me that you hit dislike by accident

  • Lalah Hathaway's version of this song is absolutely beautiful. I can't find it. Does anybody know if it is just a single or album?

  • @TheDyepes93 Her new album just came out.

  • Did you guys hear Lalah Hathaway's version of this song?

    Pete Peterkin

  • great song- love donny- if anyone has the chords to this I would be eternally grateful?

  • the biggest love from Poland Donny!i think that is not only not from me!make it on your own

  • I think Donny influenced many artists who became great. Soul Music sounded different prior his 1970 "Everything is Everything" release. If one listens to Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder prior to "What's Going On" (1971) and "Talking Book" (1972), their sound was different. Donny truly influenced them.

  • Donny said he wanted to create symphonies. Listening to Extension Of A Man gives us a peak at what his symphonies would sound like. That album is an eclectic of a many genres of music...and IT WORKS. Only Donny could pull that off.

  • WOW !! wat a great singer so underated listen to Donny & Roberta Closer I Get To You,,,,,,, perfect simply perfect

  • as gifted as donny hathaway was, he wasnt universally embraced. i think his mental issues and lack of physical charisma had something to do with that. during the '70s there was a myriad of talented artists that dominated the music scene. e.g. the jackson five, curtis mayfield, marvin gaye, stevie wonder,etc....and that certainly played a part in donny's modest success as a solo artist. notwithstanding, donny is my favorite singer of all time! he was so special

  • Thank you soooo much for posting this beautiful song.....

  • Donnie singin my fav song by hime "You were meant for me"

  • my favorite Donny song hands down

  • This Is A "REAL" wedding song!!!!!

  • like swimming in warm silk...

  • @MsVarrie85 nice analogy!

  • @ktshifunda thanks!!

  • Great song -

  • I love every note he sang and every lyric he spoke. He participated in a Minoritry vendor event in Oklahoma. I was the OU rep. I saw he walking down the aisle in the booth area and I became speechless. He passed our booth and smiled. A dream had come true.

  • We all miss him, even those of us who are a far, but he has influenced so many musicians, and that's the legacy that he left. Hopefully we'll find an answer to depression soon. I'm also a musician and live with the same thing everyday.

  • I'm glad that I found God because he's the one I love, he was meant for me, to be my guide and I thank him for this true love.

  • I was listening to this today had to look for it on the net my exgirl took Donny Hataway's Greatest Hits & wouldn't give it back.

  • This song was sung at my wedding. To this day, it still brings tears to my eyes because the words reflect how I feel about my wife.

  • @megacurie - My husband proposed to me and played this song. This was our "first dance" at our wedding.

  • Donny had a voice like butter!

    I love it!!!!

  • This shall be the selection for the first dance at my wedding reception. Donny was just AWESOME!!

  • Donny captured the moment......sung from the heart.....such simple lyrics but this great man brought out the emotion as he always does with his music & voice......amazing!!!!! RIP Donny

  • I was looking for a song to ecaptulate what I feel for my new love and this is it right here knew I couldn't go wrong with Donny .

  • I have been with my husband for 25 years this year, and no song has encapsulated how I feel as much as this one....Donny Hathaway was a master of turning lyrical emotions into powerful feelings....thank you xxx

  • Thank you for posting this great song.

  • I love this song...it was sung at my wedding as my wedding party walked down the isle:-)

  • cause I'll never let, you goooooo!

  • ....no one else can come betweeen this looooove i know...wow!

  • Like a piece of sunshine, warm, all consuming...Donny, Oh , Donny...to have love like this

  • Such a sweet romantic song! I wish r&b artist would make songs like this again

  • parmi Les meilleurs hathaway me fait planer

  • 30 years has passed since our beloved soul pioneer had left us...Ol' Donny Hathaway. Wish I had the time to meet him or seen him in concert for the first time. He's a heckuva musician/singer/arranger/composer. They'll never another one but his music, soul and spirit carries us on today.

  • @imthebrother - Thanks for posting: I had the good fortune to hear Donny live. My mother, believe it or not, MADE me go to the show, to keep me out of trouble with my brothers n sister. That was probably my first live concert and I remember it like it was yesterday. Donny came out and was booed - by the time he finished it was a standing ovation, I was the youngest and she thought that would be best for me.... and I'm glad she did!! I've been a fan since - and that was in the 60's!

  • @gred828 I'm just wondering what type of idiots would boo Donny Hathaway

  • a very serious tune that was so very deep sweet, and tooooooo short.just like 'we both deserve each other,s love" by ltd. i was looking to hear this on here, now i see what had happened .great post

  • Repost this comment if you miss 90's music and want artists to go back to writing songs like this***

  • Can anyone tell me where I can find A Song For You on you tube. And I'm not talking about one of those fake covers. I want to hear the legend sing it. Thanks.

  • A Song for You used to be on Youtube, but was muted and/or removed for copyright issues. I used to listen to it all the time and I miss having it here. It's a beautiful classic.

  • And "Sack full of Dreams" performed by donny hathaway

  • 30 years missing you - by all lovers.

  • Sometimes you just can't say anything when you here beautiful music like this. You just have to listen.

  • Love is...

  • Another beautiful song he's a unique soul singer,he had a real talent ,it is curious that he never had a successful career as Al Green or Marvin Gaye for example.

  • @dannpenn He pioneered the eclectic sophisticated soul that Stevie Wonder would take to the next level commercially. Most of the fan favorites Donny sang were written/recorded by someone else. It was always a source of frustrations that his hits were with his friend Roberta Flack and not on his own....he always wondered why he didn't get the love Stevie got....

  • I LOVE THIS SONG (WOW) SO DEEP thanks for posting

  • my greatest love song!

  • This is fantastic!! wow :D

    xo

    Kat

  • Excellent Song!

  • pete, you wrote the most beautiful song there

  • Can't tell if he was singing to or about Roberta or his wife.

  • Hi...there's nothing wrong with your comment...but Donny & Roberta never had any other kind of relationship other than a love of music. Donny loved Eulaulah. The rumor of Donny & Roberta was always a false rumor. Take care.

  • okay, it does not matter who he was singing to, no need to be so definitive. you take care. this was and always will be a beautiful song.

  • Gets me every time..

  • I LOVE UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!! :)))

  • Wow, that is such a beautiful song! Sooooo romantic! :)

  • love this song!!!!... Pops would play this all the time

  • Yes...a true soul classic!
