@SkunkapeProductions Your the noob for trying to defend this idiot. He clearly didnt have the working height to perform a full loop and whats the deal? is he a stunt pilot? was he there to perform stunts or was he too full of his own shit in front of the crowds. I would have his licence revoked because we dont need shit like this in the industry.I would make show just cause as to why we should keep him and his reckless unsafe behaviour.
walked away with scratches maybe a broken finger, and a very sore ego. He was performing at an airshow, at low altitude. the margin for error is great.
Not all healictopers are EMS helicopters. Those those gont have gurneys, paramedics, insurance to transfer patiens, nor would they be allows to land at a hospital. Lawyers screw us once again.
Why do they want to call 911? Surely it would be quicker to bundle him into one of those other helicopters there, and fly him to hospital themselves...
Lucky mate: What a way to go out!!! U went out in a cloud of dust...Glad you came out OK buddy... I have been flying 30 years now and so far so good, no Accidents or incidents. Never say never.....My number one priority is and and has always been SAFETY first. By the way I learned to fly on the very same helicopter (TH-55 / Sweitzer 300 (spelling))
I believe a bit more altitude would have been the ticket. Who in the hell tries to loop a helicopter when he is about 200ft above the ground? SPLAT!!!!!!!!!!!
Wasn't a loop, just looks like one from where the cameraman was placed. Its called a stall turn, pull nose up, when airspeed drops to a low enough number (10 - 30 kts), give it a bootfull of rudder using the natural torque also, and then in the descent, pull out. I just believe he was a bit too low at the start of the manouvre, didnt get to safe "gate" height at the apex, and pulled a little too hard to try and save it on the run out. Some skillfull flying until then though.

jesus, denis is my neighbour and he told me to watch this vid, for those who r wondering, he says he misjudged the exit and the amount of forward monentum he had retained from the loop, he was in the raf and is a trained stunt pilot
It was probably vortex ring state and he did not have space to recover. He was probably pulling collective which only worsens the condition. At that altitude there are only fractions of a second to react properly once the rotor system develops a windmill break state. He may have just under estimated the density altitude and gotten himself into mushing. Either way, more altitude would have given him reaction time.
As a student helicopter pilot I still find stuff like this incredible - he performs some very tricky manoeuvres very well and then, well, basics: too low when starting a loop!
I think it's more likely he just started too low. He could have incorrectly set his altimeter or just made a mistake in his math. Although he could have gone into VRS but I doubt it because he had his nose low. You get out of VRS by dropping collective and putting the nose down and it happens pretty fast. I'd say it's pilot error setting the altimeter which isn't that rare.
@Wendigo127 not being argumentative, rather trying to learn.. Is this a case of VRS? or an un commanded loss of main rotor rpm as a result of the second last manoeuvre?
@LAWSONINGOLDRACING Are you mental? Have you heard of Kenyon? Go look him up before posting that he's an amateur and/or a disgrace to other pilots. This display is a routine he knows well, he has performed it hundreds of times, it has nothing to do with showing off - it's his job as a display pilot - and in the instance above, he may have fallen into vortex ring either through pilot error or because somethimes.. it just happens. Get a clue.
@colin5577 I love it how people blame a huge sink rate after an abnormal maneuver and the resulting crash on VRS instead of lack of thrust to arrest the sink rate.
@stetson6 Perhaps. In this case, I'd be more inclined to cut Kenyon some slack because he has a lot of experience with this specific routine, he's not careless, and created this display gradually and after a LOT of testing and practice. What I would say, though, is that the man himself isn't shy to admit that it may have been his mistake. He's not entirely sure what happened and merely says that coming into the pull-out, he just lost lift. Did he mist-time it or have genuine VRS? Dunno.
@colin5577 im more inclined to believe that he failed to start his well practiced maneuver at the proper height. He didn't even get leveled out before he touched the ground, so if he had had another 50" maybe he would have pulled out? He is in mountains, high DA, summer, it's easy to miscalculate how much altitude it takes to get the aircraft to complete a manuever. I can all but guarantee you it wasn't vrs. It is hard to get an a/c in vrs, now to put A/C into a dive, mistime the pullout?
@stetson6 You may well be right. As I said in my first post, he was pretty candid about the crash and didn't rule out an error on his own part. In any event, we can all agree that it was nice that he walked away from the incident, and that he's not exactly a cowboy new to rotary wing aerobatics.
I flew with Dennis last year during a pre-display warm up. I wish I'd had a video camera with me, because if you think it looks good from the outside, the view from inside is pretty indescribable. Dennis is incredibly smooth and relaxed and the machine never feels overly taxed, yet at the same time it is at these seemingly impossible attitudes and you're doing things you know shouldn't be possible. He was pretty candid about his crash. All in all, an absolutely inspirational and amazing guy.
@colin5577 Look at all the helicopter crashes....On and ON...every were all the time..It looks to me he was trying to do 360 . How many Over confident Pilots have tryed to do that in aircraft not capable of performing such stunts?.He clearly didnt have enough altitude..Amazing i think not.
@spacecop67 He wasn't trying to do a 360 (vertical loop, I think you mean), as a 269/Schweizer300 won't manage it. Kenyon has performed this routine hundreds of times. You're confusing a professional, multi award-winning display pilot with someone merely 'showing off'.
@colin5577 Another Helo crashed in Texas.. I knew aviator in NAM he was shot down three times..Silver Star...Another Major , was shot down in little bird..Helo's take your chances...Like getting in Truck you might not make it..Down Hill....Ive been , Hueys , Black hawks..C130, Starlifter,,Airborne.. Maybe get Cobra gunship out there i might want to fly...
