avto WB has no thing to do with the amout of light you have infront or behind camera... try exposure/iris

The light meter in the camera usually does an average evaluation on the entire frame in which the brighter background forces underexposure.

If you can set your camera to spot metering, it will evaluate the reading in the centre of the frame and expose to that in which the first example would work.

Back lighting is actually a very effective way to get soft facial tones in harsh lighting and gives a glow around the hair but the background will become over exposed.

@seantheman121 some film maker... white balance is just a way to controle the temperature of colors in video... you can allways corect WB in post production with collor corection... you are thinking of exposure or iris on canon camcorders...

Put the light on what you want to look at. Who knew?

When my daughter was 2, our power went out. She wanted a flashlight. We gave her one. She didn't quite get it. She shined the light in her face and wondered why she couldn't see. Live and learn.

I try to keep myself lit the only problem is I dont have bib ass lights - I rely on the sun light and if a cloud happen to cover the sun it's out of my control!

also Pete while I've got your attention I'm having a problem with my computers microphone volume, it picks me up but the volume is really low!

@slimeytilley Most likely just going to be a settings issue mate...check yer sound card settings...if u have an aftermarket sound card...use the manufacturers settings....otherwise use the windows genereal setting to adjust mic volume...

Very good tip Pete, when I am sitting in my ute making a vid I have to adjust the white balance ( or EV) becaause of the light coming in from the rear window.

Sometimes they put a person in front of a window if they want to hide the persons identity.
