yes... a capo is necessary to play this sonog in the proper key.... unless you are able to play thos chords with your first finger barred across the 8th fret.... but to learn the song you can do it without the capo and when you get one you can transpose to the 8th fret easily

You see the dots? 3rd, 5th then 7th. The capo is after 7th so its on the 8th fret :)

You can always easily tell that way, by looking at and knowing where the dots are.

It may well sound like it has too much bass. As I'm sure you're well aware the song is played in a very mandolinesque style but it made for a poor lesson when played so softly. The chords are neither right nor wrong, its just one of a few ways the song can be played. I know a few session guitarists that choose this chord progression simply for a more widely recognisable sound and to add variation. Anyways...
