  • The chevy aveo is a real death box..The smart is far far above an aveo.

  • Honestly, I am impressed with how well it held up for its size, but I would still never own one. Ugly little things, and at 40 mpg, my motorcycle is faster and gets better mileage. The biggest problem I have is that the U.S Government is trying to legislate us into driving these. Oh, and the offset frontal impact for these at 40 mph is horrendous. The smart cars were destroyed. IIHS gave them a poor rating on it.

  • The cage remained intact. Seems much better than most cars.

  • @abqskinhead If i was gonna do 70 and crash, i would actually want this car XD

  • Title FAIL!

  • Video title is completely misleading.

I saw the full show this test is from. It was by Fifth Gear in the UK. That was a SEVENTY mile per hour crash into a concrete barrier, and the car performed very well, the door opened, the cabin wasn't badly deformed.

They also crashed a larger car into the same barrier at the same speed, and it didn't do so well :)

  • What he fails to mention in this video is that this test was done on top gear in the uk and after the crash the doors still open. I don't own a smart car but you can't deny that it faired better than most small cars would

  • If you go head on into a concrete barrier in any car you are unlikely to survive.

  • Great video! Very accurate. Everyone with half a brain knows this piece of Euro junk is a death trap. Its only defenders are the ones who were dumb enough to buy it!

  • @willardopheus Maybe you should watch the rest of the video that this was taken from. The smart car is safer than the media tells people. The people who are dumb are the ones who believe everything fox news spews at them. Look at the FULL video, and maybe you will stop being a dumb ass.

  • @looserslam

Can't stop being a dumb ass until one starts being one. I have not. If you believe all the physics-defying hype thrown at you by M-B that this little coffin on wheels is anything but, it is YOU who are the dumb ass. The laws of physics have not been repealed yet and are not going to start being now.

  • Respond to this video... @looserslam

  • @willardopheus Any car in a crash at 70MPH would not do well, and if you watch the full video, it shows that the occupants would not have been crushed.

A lady in the US was T-Boned by an F250 going 80MPH and did 22 rollovers in 26 second and got out of the car with a broken femur. Still alive. If you were in any other car, you would most likely be dead instantly.

  • And in the end of the test, the other coupe was completely destroyed, dummies killed. The smart car dummy survived.

  • vorrei vedere qualsiasi altra auto ai 70mph o 110km/h contro un muro d cemento armato! ben poche farebbero meglio...e tutte superiori ai 50000€!!!

  • haha...this video is so biased. You should watch the rest of it. They compared it to a Vauxhall Corsa (which is really popular on UK roads for anyone who's American) and the smart did way better. In fact, there was a problem with the Smart being TOO strong for crashes. Mercedes corrected this, and now the frame pod crumples a little bit.

  • @ribenawrath Also, bear in mind the body work is all plastic, and was all smashed to pieces. Which is expected and fine, since the bodywork doesn't protect anyone in a crash anyway. And this was at 70mph, which for any car is a tough challenge. The SMart did much better then I ever thought it would, and does even better nowadays.

  • it does the job for its size. You will be safer in a larger truck or suv. SImple physics.

  • o yea its called a "smart" car for a reason 1 economic reasons 2 crash reasons

  • 1st if ur rammed by a truck ur screwed in any car second, in any car going from that fast to not moving u will die in any vehicle so obviously it is as safe as almost any car out there

  • @hayjam1 it's not as safe as say a big as cadillac eldorado. it's a car too and yes that is true if you are in a car and get hit by a truck at high speed you're screwed, but the bigger and heavier the car itself the more likely you are to survive

  • its extremely safe u idiot

  • how is it safe imagine gettin plowed by a hummer in this thing your fucked a wall you know good saftey features there but and suv or truck would kill this thing

  • @dillonaire imagine your feet, theyd be crushed, better off with a mini (cooper)

  • @crazywolf889 i agree

  • Blablablablaaaaablablaaaaaaa. The desctiption of the value of that video fits well to the music. Finally, the car does the best job possible to save the inhabitants at such a terrible crash, and with huge airbags it reduces the G-force. Still - the g-force will likely kill you as long as you don't have a 5 point seat belt and a racing seat and a F1-racers physical constitution. Anyhow, that would happen with almost every standard car.... In a 200 000 bucks Mercedes you have a slight chance

  • @Lightningchase1973 but then again, there goes 200,000 bucks right down the drain

  • seriously dude? Watch the rest of this video. The people who did this crashed another small car to compare the results and their conclusion was that the smart car did amazing. The frame stayed mostly intact and the windshield didn't even break. For 70mph, that is amazing

  • agree. in 80-90% of all cars out on the road you'd die, being sqished by intruding parts. You can see many cars loosing their passanger cell after real live impacts like that. huge mercedes or BMW limousines passenger cell may stay intact AND provide acceptable g-forces. pay hundredthousend bucks? or 200 000? For a car? The best-safety cars are crumbing at that impacts, or alternatively haven too high g-force. Still, with gooc physical constiturion a lot og "g" can be survives - but no intrusion

  • useless video !!!

The car, fo its size and weight did perfect.

Look for deforming of the main structure and opening mechanisms.

All the flying debris you saw doesen't mean the car is not safe.

Not enough time to prove how wrong you are !!!

  • you dumb asses it is safe. this was a test sight and they claimed the you can survive a crash.

you stupid idiots, smart cars are really safe

  • infact, one of the safest in the roadster/rodster conv. to be safe. but like any other car, its never safe. know what i mean? :] anyone can die in an accident. no matter how safe the car.

  • omg very afaid....

  • 70 mph and both doors still worked and the windshield didn't break. You didn't show the rest of the video. Of COURSE the occupants would probably die, but they'd die in just about any small or mid-sized car. You're all about nothing, and it's sad you wasted your time proving nothing. Get a fucking life... or a job at Fox News where you can hone your sad craft.

  • that is the BEST comment i have EVER read...laughed forever... rock on!

  • Thanks, I have my moments... but people like that drive me NUTS.

  • understandable... especially when the video AGAINST smart cars is taken from a video that is FOR the smart cars... i mean...c'mon dude... realy!?!

  • this test was at 70mph not many cars would do well in this crash test

  • Ofcourse it's not safe. Look how small it is.

  • POULVERSIZED! And it was my favorite car too :'(

  • what a gay little car lol

  • Most older cars would not be able to take an impact like that, that doesn't mean the Smart is unsafe.

  • Toyota IQ is safer
