I played one yesterday at a friend's music store, very addictive. Love it more than any of the 335's I've had. It might be the amp but this video still doesn't show the electric side to it's best advantage. It's like a very, very, good Gretsch with a pinch of 335 thrown in. This is a FINE guitar, very high quality. Also pricey, I still may buy one. Reminds me of a Johnny A tone.
Great sound great playing. If im not mistaken, the guys a taylor tryed to prove a point that craftmanship was more important the wood used, and they built a guitar made out of some old pellets that had been sitting around for a couple of years, and they said it sounded sweet.
Its a visible distortion of the wood fibers which, when sawn correctly, produces a variety of affects like waves (flame) or bubbles (quilted). Maple is more prone to figure than other kinds of wood.
Well to each his own, I've always thought they were a bit bright... IMHO, don't blast me.... I like their Big Baby model acoustic, it sounds better than most of their higher end ones, IMHO. A fella in my band borrowed his friend's 414 for a set [I think, it might've been a 614] and I was not impressed, the BB was soooooo much better sounding, more lows and highs, and a bit more volume. And 1/4 of the price!
Ok, I agree, but may I add Collings, Huss and Dalton, & Guild to that list? Martins are my fave, because my Uncle has 2 gorgeous sounding ones [D-28 & D-18V] Taylor is good, but again, the BB is the best in their line-up that I've ever heard, TO MY EARS, your opinion may differ, and that's cool, without different opinions the world would be a pretty boring place...
Yes they are good, but I just prefer Martins, just MHO. They are the same price as Martins [give or take $100] and they sound alike, it's really just a name difference to me, just my opinion, disgaree with it if you want to.

does it play like an electric or an acoustic

You're gonna have to play it yourself if you can find one in a store somewhere. I felt it was a little of both. Hard to say just what exactly it is.

This is a nice guitar.... but for the price, Retail $2,300, there are many better semi-hollow body guitars.

I must say john I love your demos and riffs even though I lean towards metal. Please keep up the good work I appreciate it.

what makes a top "flamed" and "quilted"
MilesStone92 2 years ago 2
the visible wood grain,
and the direction of the cut and the type of wood
but I'm no expert.

I love that single bolt neck idea. I never could have thought of it.
I've never personally played a taylor, but I'll probably try to find one to try next time I'm at a guitar store. They seem nice.

BTW, in the 414's defense, the strings weren't that new, but neither were the ones on the BB.

Yes they are nice, I'm a Martin fan myself, but Taylors sometimes impress me. Your english was very good.

Wow, never heard of this one! Must be pretty new. Sounds good, for a Taylor anyway....

Taylor is one of the tree gratest acustic brend in the world. MARTIN, TYLOR, GIBSON.
Not necessary in this order
