"And when he came back the tree was so happy she could hardly speak." always makes me laugh, cause it's a tree! This is a beautiful and sad story. The tree loves the boy unconditionally even though he doesn't reciprocate. The tree is not wrong to love the boy; it makes her happy. If she didn't love the boy, maybe she would feel like she had no purpose.
@inrSTRENGTH is that really all you could think about when listning to this. The point of this story was that the tree loved the boy always no matter what. its one of the best childerns stories.
EVERY time? Seriously? You mean to say you haven't desensitized yourself of this story yet? If you want to cry every time at something, watch 2girls1cup.
well that was too nice. classic story. some ppl r saying that the tree was too giving to me the tree is kind of symbolic of a parent. if your child is happy n doing good, then you're happy.
This tree. This story, symbolizes the intensity of how we use whatis givin to us. When we are offered ten dollars, the most expected result would be to accept the offer, and use it for whatever need we think is necessary. And the reason this story is so great, is because it is a story of love and compassion, and how we can tend to push away the support, and charity that is given to us. I donot know why this book showed this much to me. But...maybe thats why its called "The Giving Tree"...right?
A true warning against the moral dead-end of self-sacrifice. The mother's "love" only disarms the child forcing him to become a depandant who cannot truly be happy nor take care of himself.
i finally found this. i remember this book from waaaaay back when i was like in first grade. i love this book, but i could never remember the title. a very sad and beautiful book. thanks for posting this.
What I like about this story is that it can be interpreted in many ways, in my way it's not necessarily that the boy was a very egoistic person but rather the unconditional love that the tree had for the boy.
This is so terribly sad and touching. I love trees quite immoderately and yet never heard this before. Thanks (snif!) for (snif!) sharing this story...(snif!)
I was introduced to "Where the Sidewalk Ends" when I was in 5th grade. So awesome!!!! My sister used to read this book to me since I was too young to remember! :)
I dont know i think its just YouTube having bad days TRUsT me Jenny. i hate it though when that happens. But yeah your welcome! :) You are awesome yourself. Gonna be making any new videos?
Thank you! :) I would love to try to get some more vids put together. We're now angling around trying to move, sell this house, move halfway across the country, set up house there and all that. It's all pretty crazy at the moment. But there's always time for vids, right?! LOL ;)
but yeah when you have time of course cause it seems like you have a LOT of things goin on. Why move though? im just curious. But yeah some time for videos BUT good luck with the moving! :]
Geez Jenny..I really loved that, your video's are powerful little weapons of emotion.you have such a beautiful mind.I'm kinda lost for words, except to tell you that was such a beautiful, evocative reading..Wow.. :)
Thank you so much Bernie!!! Powerful little weapons. My son is always joking about being small but mighty. Now I can tell him mom's brain is small but mighty! LOL ;) Thank you, I really appreciate your comments. I still want one of your songs by the way!!!! ;)

You're very welcome. I bought the record album about 18 years ago. I read your comments to the first person, and, you said you are not fond of your voice. Well, Let me say this,; I think you would do very well, as you have a light, calming voice that children would love to hear, as you read to them.
Hi Ben! Sorry about the lump! LOL :) It's life, isn't it! Even as a child when I couldn't see all the implications I still just loved it. Amazing that it can reach all ages like that. :)
This is also one of my all-time favorite stories. It is very sad and yet beautiful. It tells of unconditional (agape) love -- giving without the expectation of anything in return. You reading was beautiful and the showing of the book very well done. Please do more.
Yes, very much so. I meant twisted in that every time I read it I was sad and felt so bad for the tree, but then I read it again and again making myself sad! LOL
Wow... it's been a while since I listen to this kind of stories. Great story by the way. Poor tree~ he was just being used, but then again if the tree was happy giving, then I guess it is fine.

Hmmmm. I think the tree was really showing love, but the boy never did anything for the tree, or even showed appreciation for what the tree did for him. So I am very unsure about what the boy was showing.
I think the boy comes across as very selfish. The tree shows giving love, the boy shows taking love. He loves the tree as long as she has something to give him and he's entertained.
Unconditional love is unconditional. But if I were tha tree, I would have stopped helping out a long time earlier. Why? Because old age has made me cynical. My true friends love me back.
