  • Kyle Killian brought me here

  • "And when he came back the tree was so happy she could hardly speak." always makes me laugh, cause it's a tree! This is a beautiful and sad story. The tree loves the boy unconditionally even though he doesn't reciprocate. The tree is not wrong to love the boy; it makes her happy. If she didn't love the boy, maybe she would feel like she had no purpose.

  • Oh my god I'm seriously crying. ;_;

  • Thank you for creating and posting this...it is really lovely.

  • This is sweet

  • whoa im pretty impressed ... guess what no one in germany has ever heard about this

  • whoa im pretty impressed ... gues what no one in germany has ever heard about this

  • I am 23 and i still have this book next to my bed :).one of my all time favorite childhood books!!..i know it by heart..i will always love it

  • @dkproductionstudio Yeah, pretty much.

  • i loved this book when i was little, and i still do.

  • This was one of my all-time faovrite childeren books whenever I was a child.

  • I'm 14 and this was the first time I've heard this story. I loved it!

  • Ahh, this story makes me cry. Wonderful reading, thank you.

  • Poor tree. Stupid boy. Should file for domestic abuse.

  • @inrSTRENGTH is that really all you could think about when listning to this. The point of this story was that the tree loved the boy always no matter what. its one of the best childerns stories.

  • @roknthang101 I saw it as domestic abuse and cruelty. I felt sorry for the tree the whole time. If I was a kid it would scare me.

  • touched my heart very warmely.

  • this effects me way differently now as a teenager.

  • "and the tree was happy" and then there is the line "but not really" why does that keep getting cut out of all these videos?!

  • because no one realy likes that part.

  • @Apsitis I agree completely. That's one of the most important lines in the poem.

  • Such a good story, loved it when I was a child, and it still is a good story! :)

  • Correct me if i'm wrong, but is this story suppose to represent unconditional love between a mother and son?

very touching, i actually got very teary watching this

  • That's what I believe too

  • woo. first book i ever owned.. way sadder reading it as a tennager... its pretty depressing

  • best story ever 8)

  • man I almost cried after hearing this again ;(

  • This tree is a real sucker. Should throw an apple.

  • I love this story. it makes me cry everytime.

  • EVERY time? Seriously? You mean to say you haven't desensitized yourself of this story yet? If you want to cry every time at something, watch 2girls1cup.

  • Or Jar Squatter.

  • I loved this book ever since I read it when I was a child. Back then I didn't realize how good it was. I wanted to cry when I saw this.

  • well that was too nice. classic story. some ppl r saying that the tree was too giving to me the tree is kind of symbolic of a parent. if your child is happy n doing good, then you're happy.

  • This tree. This story, symbolizes the intensity of how we use whatis givin to us. When we are offered ten dollars, the most expected result would be to accept the offer, and use it for whatever need we think is necessary. And the reason this story is so great, is because it is a story of love and compassion, and how we can tend to push away the support, and charity that is given to us. I donot know why this book showed this much to me. But...maybe thats why its called "The Giving Tree"...right?

  • i love my tree too!!

  • your reading too fast its supposed to be read slow

  • that was beautiful, thank you for sharing it to us!

  • This makes me sad. Poor tree. ;_;

  • That tree needs to learn to say no.

  • A true warning against the moral dead-end of self-sacrifice. The mother's "love" only disarms the child forcing him to become a depandant who cannot truly be happy nor take care of himself.

    Frightening.

  • A beautiful story about Love.

  • The first book given for me to read in english.

I never knew it was a sad story til' now...

  • my kids love this book ...now i don,t have to read it to them .. thanks

  • i finally found this. i remember this book from waaaaay back when i was like in first grade. i love this book, but i could never remember the title. a very sad and beautiful book. thanks for posting this.

  • Look at my version!

  • agh, that three is an idiot

  • My favoritest book ever<33

    makes me cry every time

    :)

  • I thought I was the only person that cried when this story was read.

    *highfiveforoversensitivity*

  • hehe

    *highfiveforoversensitivity* !

  • ummm...

  • That tree could freaking talk, and it had no sense to tell him to exploit the tree right next to it??

    stupid tree..

    lol...

  • And what's with the "I have no money?". For crying out loud, you're a talking tree, that's worth like millions in showbizz,

  • Beautiful.

  • this is the first time i've heard this song its very sad :( but the boy was kind of selfish taking everything

  • I can't! :)

  • That was a nice story to hear. I use to have that book.

  • very nice!!!! :)

  • sniff sniff.. wow ...still after all of these years this story remains to be one of the most profound ever..thank you so much for this ..

  • Since I was a kid this book has been one of my favorites...

    "...

    And the tree was happy

    but not really...

    ..."

This part alway makes me cry...

    Love so much your reading~,

    Thanks for posting~*

  • What I like about this story is that it can be interpreted in many ways, in my way it's not necessarily that the boy was a very egoistic person but rather the unconditional love that the tree had for the boy.

  • The tree was still happy in the end even though the boy thought of himself.

  • i havent seen this since 1st grade and i loved it thank you so much

  • such a simple story with such a powerful message.

  • you're awsome, i need to read this book for my literature project. I save my butt. :) thx

  • Awesome!

  • Thank you! :)

  • You're very welcome. I bought the record album about 18 years ago. I read your comments to the first person, and, you said you are not fond of your voice. Well, Let me say this,; I think you would do very well, as you have a light, calming voice that children would love to hear, as you read to them.

  • Bobby Bare put that story to music on his album,

"Singing In The Kitchen", which he recorded for children.

If I knew how to copy from a record to a CD, and knew how to post here, I would do that.

  • Oh how cool! I'll have to look for that. Thanks for mentioning it! :)

  • oops I posted in the wrong place. Sorry.

  • Great storytelling!

  • Thank you! :)

  • Very nice Jenny it put a lump in my throat, It was a sad story but one of kindness too. :)

  • Hi Ben! Sorry about the lump! LOL :) It's life, isn't it! Even as a child when I couldn't see all the implications I still just loved it. Amazing that it can reach all ages like that. :)

  • This was one of my favorite books as well. Thank you for dusting off this old memory.

  • Thank you!

  • there is no better answer than this...I am just so happy right now. Thank You, you read that BEYOND perfectly. Thank you

  • so many of us grew up reading this story again and again and again...Thank You I have always loved this book

  • Thank you!

  • WOW!!! truly amazing!

  • Thank you so much! :)

  • This is also one of my all-time favorite stories. It is very sad and yet beautiful. It tells of unconditional (agape) love -- giving without the expectation of anything in return. You reading was beautiful and the showing of the book very well done. Please do more.

  • Thank you so much! :)

  • One of my favs too :D Great read Jenny :D Peace & Health yo you & yours

  • Thank you so much! Silverstein was a master! :)

  • I remember this book as a kid. It was one of my favorites!

  • Ha! So I'm not the only twisted kid, huh?! LOL :) Thank you for commenting! :)

  • I never thought it was twisted but rather insightful into the sacrifices our loved one make for us. This tree is definitely the mother archtype.

  • Yes, very much so. I meant twisted in that every time I read it I was sad and felt so bad for the tree, but then I read it again and again making myself sad! LOL

  • Wow! Amazing story, and extremely well read. So good I VLOG'd it. Thank you. Thank you! :) 5*

  • Thank you so much! :)

  • Wow... it's been a while since I listen to this kind of stories. Great story by the way. Poor tree~ he was just being used, but then again if the tree was happy giving, then I guess it is fine.

  • Thank you! It is a very interesting story. I don't know why I was drawn to it as a child because it isn't really a concept children can truly grasp. It just has that kick of magic to it I guess. :)

  • Oh well done! What a strange story, I'd not heard it before. Made me feel sad for the tree, giving all for the sake of love.

  • I used to cry when my sister read it to me but at the same time I loved it. It's so bittersweet.

  • Awesome book!!

  • Thank you! :)

  • Hmmmm. I think the tree was really showing love, but the boy never did anything for the tree, or even showed appreciation for what the tree did for him. So I am very unsure about what the boy was showing.

  • I think the boy comes across as very selfish. The tree shows giving love, the boy shows taking love. He loves the tree as long as she has something to give him and he's entertained.

  • The point is that the TREE showed unconditional love to boy. True love is unconditional. That's the point.

  • Unconditional love is unconditional. But if I were tha tree, I would have stopped helping out a long time earlier. Why? Because old age has made me cynical. My true friends love me back.

  • I read this to my kids & grandkids! Love it! Good job!! 5 stars!

  • Thank you so much! I love this book, used to make my sister read it to me over and over! LOL :)

  • Your reading is just perfect, Jenny. Perfect pacing, perfect intonation, perfect emotion. I could listen to you read for days, and never tire of it.

Speaking as a person who lives the spoken word, I do hope you'll do more readings.

  • Beautiful!

  • Thank you so much!!!! :) I was feeling very vulnerable with this one, with my reading. I'm not overly fond of my voice. ;)

  • I found your voice swift and sure. You were reflecting on the story as you read.

  • Oh wow! Thank you! I like to read to my kids--but they're a captive audience! LOL
