Ugh I don't know about the movies but I absolutely love the books!! I am almost finished with Anne's house of dreams right now! Anne and Gilbert have one of the most beautiful love stories ever...*sigh* It took years before she would even count him as her friend and him almost dying for her to realize that she loved him but his love never wavered! how sweet!!

I don't see what all the fuss is about. I will give that it doesn't follow the books at all, but i don't agree that it is a disappointment. After the third book you have got to admit they started getting bland. Don't get me wrong i love them, but i also love this movie. It still shows the strength of Anne and her love for Gil. And it shows Gilbert's strength that we really don't see in the books.

So i say knock it off they did a good job. Plus there were things that related to the others.

I heard that the reason why Kevin Sullivan changed the plot so drastically in the 3rd movie was because of an ongoing legal battle between his company and L.M. Montgomery's heirs. They complained they didn't receive enough money from Sullivan, so they did not want him to turn anymore of LM Montgomery's works into films. I don't know if this is true, but personally I think this movie changed the characters so much that the only thing that's recognizable are their names.

Read the books, they are much more satisfying and it follows Anne through out her whole life. In the books she and Gilbert had 7 kids and all of their sons served in WWI.

Plus Green Gables is never run down, Marilla lives to see all of Anne's children grow up. That is why the third installment is so annoying it doesn't have that touch of LM Montgomery that is needed to breath life and brillance into the story.

It's not the relationship of them that bothers me the most in this movie, it's the twisted plot.

But you're right, their personalities became so sad. Anne and Gilbert's voices deepened and Anne lost her 'scope for imagination' and Gilbert lost his light humour. Maybe that's why I want to cry during these scenes.

sure, they grew up, but at least in the books, we still saw glimpses of her imagination and his humor. He even still called her carrots and his anne girl.

That's so true. And sure, their voices have to deepen in order for them to grow up, but I think what bothers me about it is that their voices seem even deeper and at a lower pitch because they never seem to be half as happy as they were in the first two movies.

Yes, the third miniseries isn't my favorite either. I'm glad that the original actors came back to play their parts, though. I wouldn't have watched it otherwise. Kevin Sullivan even admits that this 3rd story doesn't follow the books at all. Because the first two miniseries were filmed in a time period that came much later than that of the books, he felt he had to continue instead of backtracking. IMO, he should've just stayed true to the time periods AND the original books thoughout.

No, it wasn't part of the books. Actually,it wasn't even the time the book was set! Truth is, Anne and Gilbert married years before the War started. They had several children. When WWI started, their 3 sons left only one died though. The last book mostly focused on Anne's daughter,Rilla's love affair with a man named Kenneth.
