i listened to both renditions - actually played it at the same time

my observations are:

both are actually good

emotional wise; i don't see the "lackness" of david's rendition; each has his own way of expressing the song except that stanfour has a musical video to expressively show it perhaps if david has - he can too.

on a vocal standpoint: both are great too - if it is all right - i think david's vocal power range is greater than stanfours' lead guy

but i like them all the same

Regardless of which is better or whether either has to be better, I'm glad that David Archuleta covered this song. Otherwise, the people who were attracted to this song because of David Archuleta's cover would never have seen this song, and I would have never heard this song, and that would have been a tragedy.

Wow. This is good. I'm pretty sure everyone here is tired of hearing this song compared and contrasted with David Archuleta's version of the same song, and I really don't know which I like better. Now I realize, do we really have to like one version over the other? Let's just agree that they're different styles and some people like one version over the other and they're both very good. Stupid David fangirls bashing the ORIGINAL for no reason.. I can respect the ones who give a fair opinion such as just liking David's style better (I love his version of 'I'll Be". So I don't hate David.), but the ones that come on here and troll and mindlessly insult... how chilidish. This version has 10x the emotion... listen to the arrangment... listen to this song open-mindedly, forgetting that David ever covered it... then, if you have an ounce of life experience, you'll feel it.

Everytime I listen to this song it's still amazing. There is really a strong message to it. That I think a lot of people can relate to.

It's sad most people only know it cause Archuleta covered it. His verison just seems to lack the same feelings this one has. It just feels off.

I love this song! I don't think it really sounds that different from Davids version, though I like his better simply because it was the first version I heard. The two have similar vocals though. And musically, they are very much a like, but David Archuleta's seems louder. And he changed a few lyrics. But other than that, they are like exactly the same!

Yah no, to clear this up: Desperate is in fact Stanfour's song. It was actually co-written by 2 of the members. David covered it.

Ein tolles Lied, wirklich.

Aber das Video!! Passt gar nicht...total oberflächlich. Ein Model dahinzustellen und ein bisschen posen und auf traurig machen zu lassen trifft die verzweifelten Gefühle in dem Song doch gar nicht.

Ich finde sie hätten lieber eine realitätsnähere Situation auswählen sollen, dass die Bedeutung des Songs wirklich tiefgreifend wiederspiegelt (so wie im Video zu "in my arms").

Dieses topgestylte Fotomodel wirkt nämlich nicht gerade sehr "desperate" :D

Nein ich finde meiner meinung nach passt das video wenn man sich in das lied versezt gut dazu.Ich sehe das so das das Model nach einiger Zeit nicht mehr kann da sie dem druck nicht gewachsen ist und dafür jemanden brauch der sie hält und ihr kraft gibt neuen "mut" weiter zu machen oder was auch immer ;)
