This is a beautiful album in so many ways. I'm glad I own a copy and can play it whenever I am so inclined. Nothing replaces the original vinyl! My absolute favorite from "Voice of the Heart" is the song, "Now."
One of the last songs Karen Carpenter recorded, in early 1982. What's amazing is that even in her terrible physical condition, she never sounded better. Also, this was what is known as a 'work lead',I.E, a lay down track that was done, probably with just Richard on the piano to provide a guide for the other musicians to lay down their parts of the song, with Rich and Karen returning later to do their final vocals/piano track. Thankfully, the work lead was flawless, as usual.
I did not know this song. It´s quite a surprise when you find this kind of rarities on youtube. It is always a pleasure listening her singing. I though I had heard all the Carpenters or her stuff, so it´s great finding something new for me. Thank you very, very much for uploading
i really love this song.. my friends are laughing at me. they're wondering why i know all carpenter's songs.. i have karen carpenter in me.. i really love her songs
yes, karen was truly amazing. it sucks that she wast taken away. can you imagine all of the wonderful music she would have given us for years to come? Funny, while i was in the military, some jerk said something negative about karen and the way she died. i was quick to defend and we nearly came to blows. we were quickly seperated and all was okay, but that showed me how much i loved this woman and her voice. Some of the sadder songs she sang, i feel that she was singing from her heart.
What's sad is that I think her voice sounds better here than it did during the the previous album (Made in America). She would have been amazing in the 80s.
Actually, the Carpenters recorded four tunes in April, 1982...."Now", "You're Enough" and two others. Rumor has it that one of the others was a Karen vocal and the other a Richard lead vocal.
Is it just me but the beginning of this song sounds ALOT like the start of the main theme from " The Young And The Restless.." Not sure if that was intentional on Richards part or not but it makes me think that every time I hear it..
You're enough If I never know another After what we've known together Baby, you're enough I've already had my sweetest dreams come true Can't you see In these eyes that adore you I've been waiting here for you Baby, can't you see Look at me See love's greatest non-believer Believing that she might be seeing love In your eyes
The beauty about Karen Carpenter's song is that they are able to draw emotions out of you in a nice and easy way not unlike a lazy afternoon when the warm sunlight falls on the green fields before you
its just pure nostalgia
Karen Carpenter is indeed a one of a kind miracle that only happens once in a lifetime
You're Enough was recorded in April 1982 at the same session when Karen sang Now, her final recording. She recorded both songs in California while she took a two-week intermission in her therapy with noted psychotherapist Steven Levenkron in New York City for her anorexia, which was a relatively unknown disease at the time.
Her voice got more angelic with every passing day, the final recordings sound even better than the early stuff that was already perfection, she was so angelic that she grew wings and flew up to Heaven, where she can finally feel even more love and happiness than she gave, and never worry about weight again, because in Heaven you can eat all day and stay perfect weight ( enjoy Karen, you have earned it )
Yes, it is my second favorite one, I think this sounds different from the style that they usually went for, thats what makes it seem more fun, to hear a slightly different style, still perfect
Great voice such a mellow tone and a range we hear less and less these days! I keep meaning to do a cover of masquerade!

Richard's arrangements are amazing. You simply can't add or take out anything. Every little sound there has meaning.

You're enough
If I never had another
Never hold another lover
Baby, you're enough
All the rest are second best
Compared to you

Stars above
Made for wishin', made for dreamers
Won't you listen to this heart
And what it's dreamin' of
If they'll only shine their lucky starlight down on me
Make it bright enough for only you to see
That, baby, you're enough for me

simplicity at it best and the melody and lyric is so haunting
The genius of Karen Carpenter

I agree, this is easily equivelant to We've Only Just Begun :)
I am going to have to make a new video of this
with the camera not leaning,
I have a much better record player now,
and I can add in the subtitles now, because I figured out how to do that lol

That's sad, I didn't know that, were there any other songs recorded then, or were they the only 2 ?
carpentersaddict 4 years ago
There may be others, but those are the only two I am sure about.

Wow, I never knew this was recorded during the same session. I've always found the vocal one of her most affecting. Now I know why...
